Good call on the rubbermaid bins. The ones I have from the 90s are still just as good. They hold up well in flood and fire as well. I mean obviously not direct fire but they have been known to keep out smoke damage.

I really appreciate you show us how it really looks like to be living a home and a real life! :) And congratulations on the final effect - looks great :) Thank you for being true and sharing very motivational and positive videos:)

I have started to declutter my craftroom. I am almost through my craft books. I never thought I could declutter my books, but I have! Next project is the magazines and the patterns for sewing, knitting and miniature/ Dolls House. That will take a looooot of time. But I will get through it 😊 You did an amazing job. You are a true inspiration

I started on my basement last night. It is a year's worth of delayed decisions and outgrown kids clothes. Between the two kids, we have 8 sizes stored downstairs and all of the baby gear. I'm aiming to get rid of 75% of the stuff.

I am so happy for you and your family! I used to keep things clean and organized, but as my chronic illness progressed, my abilities to do such efficient and honestly, happier, work digressed. It still motivates me to see others do these things. Maybe I am able to complete one box at a time, but I "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, that's what we do, swim, Swim, SWIM!!!" as Dory would say. TFS and HUGS

Great job, Steph! Such an improvement. Loved watching the way you had categories and labeled everything. You’ll smile every time you go in there now. Your hard work paid off

I love that your husband wouldn't let you get rid of anything. Sometimes I think that my husband is the only one who resists letting go of stuff. Seriously! Even 6 pairs of old glasses that he must "might" need someday!

I completely agree about using labels. Even the clear bins should get labeled, especially if there's a lot of stuff.

Steph you are the best! Bless you for your transparency - so refreshing & encouraging. Storage rooms are a kind of "relief valve" for us - it's actually good to have a place you can just throw stuff temporarily. But then we need to deal with it eventually - and for you, "eventually" was now! Fabulous! Meanwhile, January has been pretty much of a disaster for me housekeeping-wise. I am SO thankful to have a wonderful job and that my company is SUPER busy! but I've been working both days on the weekends & some evenings too. I have NEVER had this many (rinsed) dishes stacked up in the sink since I started Flylady over a year ago - gaaah! I'm going to go get them caught up right now, then make dinner ... then back to work for a couple hours tonight (sigh). Certainly not perfection, but definitely progress! Which of you plays string bass?!? And don't toss your husband's CDs! If your internet/cell service ever goes out, you'll still have music. :-)

I am glad you were respectful of your husband's belongings. I really dislike it when people try to declutter other people's stuff.

Great work! I had a storage room that looked just like that and a couple of years ago we turned it into gym / workshop. That was our last area to tackle in our basement . I called it the belly of the Beast! I know the feeling of relief and closure! Congratulations! As minimalists 90% went out the door! I haven't missed a thing!

Unbelievable - you did a great job and showed us all that it is possible to actually clean up those areas we are afraid to tackle. I am sending this to my friend who has a room even worse than yours - and I know she is completely overwhelmed by it. She says "I just close the door". If she will let me help her I now know exactly where to start and what is possible.

Bear in a bag 🤣🤣🤣 had something similar happen at our house. Had my husband's Krampus costume (we live in Austria and it's a tradition here... A scary one...) in a box in the attic, was looking for something and my then 6 year old son was helping me. Well he opened the box and screamed bloody murder! Didn't realize what had happened the first 3-5 minutes. Though a bee stung him... Poor little guy

My husband once had 4 Gretzky rookie cards. He didn't keep his room clean enough (according to his mom), so they were tossed out when he was a teen. Now I have to store a couple shoeboxes of pretty much worthless cards that he collected after the purge. 🤷‍♀️ I once decluttered through my husband's stuff and donated a Sherlock Holmes book that didn't fit with his book collections. Five years later, I had to purchase the same book again. Fortunately, I was able to replace my declutter mistake. I agree on using roughnecks. The only thing that changes is the colour. I do like clear shoeboxes for small organizing. It also is amazing how much you can stop holding onto when you are done having babies. Congratulations on your declutter!
