Troy's Instrument was an Irish bouzouki. The bouzouki originated in Greece but was adopted into Irish folk music during the 20th century.

Thanks for this temporary fix to my addiction to reactions to Nightwish with this song that's among my top 10 NW songs. P.S. Here's something that I discovered only recently. This is what Steve Harris, the founder, principal composer & bassist/keyboardist of the world's all time greatest metal band IRON MAIDEN said about Tuomas Holopainen & Nightwish with Anette in 2015 before he had heard their latest album "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" with Floor on vocals: “When I heard [2007’s] Dark Passion Play, I couldn’t believe it. I thought, ‘Now, this is a proper fucking album.’ It’s got everything bar the kitchen sink in there. It was controversial because of the new singer Anette Olzon, but she was brilliant. No disrespect to Tarja, but Anette’s voice suited them a lot better. There’s heavy stuff, classical, even a bit of Disney - all kinds of shit in there. I think it’s one of the best-sounding albums I’ve ever heard in my life. Then I got the next one, [2011’s] Imaginaerum. Storytime is a fantastic, instant song. The rest of the album took me a while to get into. Dark Passion Play was so good, I thought there was no way they could ever come up with an album that’s anywhere near that, but the more I got into Imaginaerum, the more I loved it. Tuomas was playing the synth percussions during the intro so essentially he was hitting the keys in a percussive pattern which may look unorthodox.

Tuomas can also play the bongo as well as the keyboard. He's combining both!

I like the way you analyse the performance. I am from Austria, so sorry for my english. This songs don´t are focused on Floor but we never have to forget what a magnificant part she plays in these songs too ! Go on like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuomas do misses a key sometimes. It is rare though. Hm, so rare so I only have a vague memory of it. A Nettie-concert in LA I think, so it doesn't happen very often.

Troy acctually plays a 4 coursed(tetrachordo) Electric-Aucustic Irish bouzouki in this song. The major difference between a bouzuki and a mandolin are basicly, that a bouzuki normally are tuned one octave lower. A bouzuki are also a little bit larger then it's smaler cousin the Octave-mandolin while being significantly larger then a Mandolin, which makes it sound and play a bit different. Misstaking any of the instruments in the mandolin family ain't hard, thou...

You guys should take a look at some old Nightwish. Come Cover Me, Deep Silent Complete, She is my sin.. The dvd "From wishes to eternity" is a good example of these songs. Without wanting to detract the new Nightwish, the old was more unique.

Good stuff, but you have missed half of the song's effect because you haven't considered the lyrics. . . . . . . Tuomas is a poet, there's a lot of meaning in there and conveyed by Floor's vocal characterisations.
