Name Change in Florida

After you have a name change in Florida, you should obtain certified copies of your name change to present to the DMV, for Social Security, your passport, etc. When changing your name in Florida, you must attest to the Court that you are changing your name for legal reasons and not to avoid creditors or to otherwise defraud any person or agency. The amount of information you must provide the Court is extensive to verify the accuracy of your attestations.

When it ask for full name change on the form, do I put my first middle and last name? I’m only wanting to change my last name, not due to marriage or adoption but for a personal reason for myself as an adult

Generally one must be a Florida resident to qualify, though some out-of-state orders may be able to be domesticated.

Mr. R., the county might send you a letter asking for fingerprints, or you may want to be proactive and ask an FDLE agency for their assistance. It is generally a requirement. Check with your local jurisdiction clerk of court.

Some people want all of their kids to have the same last name and others feel as though a fresh start is important. There are many good reasons for changing one's name. You are right that some cases are more extensive than others.

@@jonathanjacobs2567 I get all that some situations its nesseasary but I meant if you just don't like your name someone shouldn't dislike you by your name. It's who you are as a person not your name if someone is judging you by your name them that's not a person you should have as a friend so just the process it so complicated
