Because it helps identify people easier, that's the point of having it on driver's licenses in the first place. If someone looks feminine, and presents themselves as a female, and it says male on their id, it would bring up a lot more confusion. It was removed because they wanted to discriminate, it's pretty obvious, it only brings negative effects and helps NOBODY.

Here's what she can do. Get your name changed in a trans friendly state. Then have your name on your birth certificated changed. If the birth state refuses to change the birth certificate name, you can file an appeal citing the full faith and credit clause of the US constitution which the birth state has to uphold. Then with the new birth certificate you can have your DL updated. Even Florida can't refuse a legal birth certificate.

I thought the Republican Party was about limited government and freedom. What happened?

According too FL law, only way to get the gender on a license changed is to have the full transition completed, then submit all proper documentation at the federal state level. There is no in-between as it requires objective verification (genital surgery, with the other markers breats, hormonal levels, ect) it's an all or nothing thing until proven otherwise all the way n stuck with what was prior.

From a medical perspective; If a person was in any kind of accident needed medical attention and who was incapable of communicating to first responders....the gender assigned to the individual at birth is important for proper medical care. Blood pressure and functions of internal organs ARE DIFFERENT between genders. I have no problem with anyone presenting themselves as their best versions. Purely from a medical perspective the identification should state the assigned gender at birth. Just because an identification says that's how you were born, doesn't mean that's how you choose to live. It's an important part of your past. Not your present or future. The only purpose of gender on identification should be for vital information. To keep you healthy and safe with your general health and in cases of emergency.

I personally believe this shouldn’t be allowed at the very least for medical reasons. Biological men aren’t going to have the same medical answers as biological women so it shouldn’t be manipulated in case of emergencies. You a dude and want to wear a dress? Go for it, rock that dress but at the end of the day you’re still a man (even if you have your genitals mutilated) and your body is and always will be different than a woman’s and vice versa. Doctors shouldn’t have to play guessing games when an emergency is happening. At the very least it should have MTF or FTM instead of male or female if you’ve gone through the transition and are considered “passing”. Either way, it shouldn’t just state you’re a female if you were not born a female. This is so basic it’s crazy, literally, that we need these conversations at all.

From what I can recall Arakansas and Iowa don't require fingerprint and that there're only atleast 3 state from what I can remember that don't require them. And that those most states are likely to run background checks upon license renewal. There's numerous reasons why this ruling is of importance because it is not only an Identification card, it's a government documentation of your account as a citizen of their state. There's no other justifiable argument to void the relevance of this ruling

If we think about the point of the information on the driver's license, it's to clearly list out identifiable characteristics of the person such that someone who doesn't know them can see the card and know that the person in front of them legally possesses this name, address, birth date, and permission to drive. We update the license when the identity information changes, as well every few years regardless in order to update the picture. If the person identifies as a specific gender, is it more useful to put their gender assigned at birth on the card or the gender that a poll worker, bar tender, or police officer would see them as? It makes life harder for not just the person themselves but also everyone who needs to identify them when the document we use for that purpose is intentionally left inaccurate.

I'm not a member of any of the notable communities, directly, except for one, the American community, and these people still American people, and the persecution of them to this degree, is sort of (being generous here, its more than sort of) _un-American._ If this is how we're going to treat dissenting value and convention, then I don't see how we can have a country. 🇺🇸

What's the point of putting a piece of information that you can change on your whim in a licence? Isn't the whole point of a licence providing others of objective information about you, not your subjective feelings? You might as well just add your favourite book or your favourite outfit in your driving licence, if you think your so-called gender identity should be in your licence.

I'm 200 lbs. This is like saying I'm 100 lbs on my driver's license. I knew one woman who couldn't even buy alcohol because she looked NOTHING like the pic on her driver's license. She showed me and she was 200 lbs over in the picture. She had lost over 200 lbs and looked like a completely different person. It really didn't look like her. She was legally over 21 but didn't look like it. The whole point of of a license is for legal verification of who you are, not your alter ego. For people who don't get it, it protects you. It's nothing against transitioning but making sure you are who you are. If I needed your ID and you didn't match your ID, I couldn't service you. I'm assuming the card is stolen.

Like in your example about how your friend's ID says 200 lbs but they don't look like it? Are they lying about their weight? Let's say you meet another woman. Talks like a woman, looks like a woman, dresses like a woman, and is feminine in every way possible. Shouldn't their ID reflect that? Or is the weight the only thing that is allowed to be whatever they want? It's unconstitutional for them to be forced to disclose their genitals as we're protected under the 5th amendment, so it's never going to be required that we put our body parts on government issued IDs. But shouldn't the ID reflect who they are as they appear and who they would like you to know them as?

@typingcat my government issued ID doesn't display my gender identity btw. It just says N/A. My weight is also 100 lbs off of what it actually should be. The address is from my childhood home and I've moved 9 times since and not even in the same town, city, or providence. And my picture is of me when I became of legal age to consent for myself so I don't even look remotely the same and considering I'm trans non-binary/gender fluid, I REALLY do not look the same as my picture lol. So what's your point?

I've read many of people's opinions in this comment section and it seems like people REALLY don't seem to understand what the point of having their Gender on their driver's licenses is. some important info: there are a lot of convincing trans people, hate it or like it, many do look extremely cis, and sometimes CIS people are mistaken for being trans, I have seen some people getting massive hate on people, where people could "tell they were a man" whilst they were literally born AS A GIRL. Trust me, there is some VERY convincing looking trans people out there, that you have probably encountered outside before without knowing. The gender part of the driver's license is for identification, it would bring up extreme amounts of confusion if they were to check your driver's license and see "male" listed, while the person in the car appears to be completely female. No matter what view you have on trans people, even if you hate them for whatever odd excuse you have, forcing them to be identified by their assigned gender at birth is just worse, it makes it more annoying for absolutely everybody. The type of people wanting these laws, do not want life to be easier for anyone, and are doing this just because they hate their group, and want life to be harder on them. This makes it harder on trans people, and cops, or whoever is evaluating their driver's licenses.

i always go out of my way to use there birth gender.

@@YoWassupFresh that's a very vague defining line between those things. Police need to use a drivers license to positevly identify a person. If someone looks like a woman, dresses like a woman, has her hair like a woman, speaks like a woman, and is adressed by everyone as a woman then what does a male check on the license help? It's there to identify the person so as long as the cops don't do genital checks it doesn't help them if a completly female looking person has a male license, does it now.

I'm glad Florida did this

This law needs to be in every state! (Even Alaska and Hawaii).

So they want a scientific fact to be reflected on identifying government documents. All states should implement this so there is no gray area causing confusion. You can already see the miscommunication and confusion in those reading/watching recent media that involves pronouns. We can’t just change a language to reflect what’s going on in an individual’s mind.

Why do I care if a person wants to live as a male or female? But I can understand leaving your original gender on legal documents etc for insurance purposes, census info, criminal records etc. If I were trans I really wouldn’t care if there’s a little M on my drivers license. But in matters of education etc people should be allowed to dress and live as they please although I wish they’d wait until they’re adults to make these decisions. It’d probably be better for them in the long run. It would also help if there wasn’t all the fear, hate, and bullying of trans inclined people by supposed Christians.
