How Legally Changing my Name Changed my Life - Calvin Correli

In this video SaaS founder, serial entrepreneur, and spiritual teacher, Calvin Correli explores the idea of identity and tells the story of how he changed his name and the impact that it has made on his life. Originally born Lars Holger Pind, Calvin never identified with his given name. When he found out that his wife changed had her name with a numerologist that piqued his interest.
Calvin learned that giving yourself a new name gives you an opportunity to reinvent yourself. We associate so much of our identity with our name and taking control of that, in some ways helps us take control of our life.
Changing your name isn't guaranteed to make you happy overnight. But its possible that as you shed yourself of your old name you could also shed some traumas, ideologies, and feelings that no longer serve you.

Great video Calvin. I've been thinking of changing my name for a while and over the past few days I've grown a strong urge to finally go ahead and do it. I've often resisted thinking of the hassle/embarrassment of telling everyone I've changed my name at work, at the age of 38. You blew my mind when you spoke about your old name not sitting well with you, and the conflict of feelings between your subconscious. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings on it.

I’ve always hated my birth name as well. I’ve always just hated the sound of it, what it means, and what people have to say about it. I’ve just never cared for it. I’m 30 and I want to change my name as well. I just never identified with it or connected with my name. Because my name is such a popular name, people react negatively because everyone else loves it so much. I just want to tell them “If I loved my name as much as YOU do, I wouldn’t want to change it so badly.” Im not gonna say what my real name is because I detest it so much, but it’s a biblical name and that’s why it’s so popular, and therefore one of the reasons I hate it so much

Great video. Great soul. Love the story. So much truth. I'm 53. I changed my name 18 years ago. One of the greatest decisions of my life for a multitude of reasons. (Its up there with who to marry....kids....faith) it has been a remarkable journey. People often view it as abnormal or something is wrong with you. And others view it in a positive way. A trailblazing way. So many biblical examples of the significance of a name change......but alas....you can also "read" the small minds who judge when they resist or don't value or respect a person's decision to be called something else. I could write a book! Anyone can keep their given name. That's easy. And if they like it....that's awesome. But it takes courage to make a change.

Just wanted to say that you helped me with my decision to change my first name. My first name is thai but I grew up in Germany. I never had contact with our thai family and thats also the reason why I could never connect with that name. Besides, people back then often make fun of me (like kids are) and I always felt uncomfortable to explain my name. In thai culture parents give you a nickname but I don’t even feel connected to that nickname. Anyway, the name I chose is “Cecilia”, when I first read that name, I instantly felt connected and told the Starbucks barista that name to call me out and hearing someone calling me that felt nice.

I legally changed my name back in 2015, when I was about to start my junior year of high school. I remember being super spooked about it cause I had crippling social anxiety and I couldn't imagine how people were going to react. I never liked my given name, though oddly enough, I suspect it was due to cognitive dissonance, since I was always the odd one out, suffering from social anxiety, not having friends, etc., and I tied my name to that identity. I was 16, so who knows, maybe it was a weird reason to go through all the trouble of changing a name, but I did. I changed it to the last four letters of my given name, so I guess it's not that different? That was my justification for it, but needless to say, a lot of people didn't notice that and I got the craziest reactions, even from teachers, who explicitly stated they'd refuse to refer to me as the new name cause of how strange it feels so yeah. 7 years later and I'm not even in touch with anybody who knew me back before the name change, so all's good now, I like it a lot better. It's just wild to remember I did it! Lol. And as for the whole goal I had of shedding that identity and being better, well, it's a work in progress, even now. I do get socially anxious. But the one quote in the video, that there's no written rule dictating our future, that we can choose who we wanna be every day, and that we're never bound to yesterday, was amazing. Like DAMN did I need that, so thank you, and congrats on the name!

Everything you said really resonates with me! I actually changed my name not too long ago. I had a huge struggle dealing with people who didn’t want to acknowledge me with my new name. It just felt like they didn’t care nor make the effort to remember. I do understand it’s not something to get used to so easily but even that, it’s harder to make older people get used to it. I still try to not let it get to me as much. Sometimes when I can’t handle the pressure I’d usually leave the environment and cry it all out - I find that it really helps honestly.

@@CalvinCorreliOfficial My experience with Toolbox was the worst experience of my life. Ignored, laughed at, avoided eye contact, harsh voice, numerologist was full of hate. Yet, he has all positive customer reviews. That's because he's charismatic. But if you ask me, he's not a good person. You might think if he treated me bad, why did I do business with him? Because he didn't treat me like that until AFTER I paid him $1,150 for name change. Before I paid him, he agreed when I asked him that there would be follow-up sessions. I didn't expect to be abused. Now you might wonder, then how come I don't write a negative customer review? Because when I wrote negative customer review before, his associate replied to it and twisted things, making numerologist seem innocent and making me sound bad. I swear to God the numerologist treated me like dirt for no good reason and I'm still suffering trauma from it. You may wonder why numerologist would treat me bad. You'd have to ask him, although he would probably deny or lie. FYI, I'm someone who's "different", maybe my mannerisms annoyed him, or maybe I was just misunderstood. Whatever the reason, it was no good reason for hate. Also, in spite of being ill treated and Toolbox claiming they offer warranty for name change, they refused to give me refund. Another fact which Toolbox won't tell you is that for name change, they simply use template numbers based on date of birth. For example, if you're born on 9th, 18th, or 27th, you have 9 vibration and therefore they give you template numbers based on this single fact. So it's not individualized based on your life goals or anything like that. This I learned later from another Chaldean numerologist. Nothing wrong with standard template numbers for new name, I'm sure it works, but I think it could be better. I'm born on 27th, and I know Toolbox numerologist born on the 9th. That explains why my new first, middle, and last name has the same numbers as Toolbox numerologist, 23/5, 17/8, and 37/1. I know Calvin Correli born on 27th too. He mentioned it somewhere before. Also, I know Toolbox numerologist probably contacted Correli around the time numerologist treated me bad and dissed me, back in April 2022. That's because numerologist missed an appointment and said his cell phone app failed to function to remind him and numerologist took picture of cell phone that said "Followup with Roberta" and in addition I saw Calvin Correli's name there too along with a birthday cake icon. My guess is numerologist contacted Correli because numerologist thinks because Correli has this KZread channel, etc, that Correli can help him, but numerologist purposely missed appointment and claimed he "forgot" when it came to me, I know this because during rescheduled meeting, he ignored me and was very hostile. Anyway, I know this comment is sort of long-winded and I'm guessing it will be deleted, but I just needed to vent.

That means you're a number 9 like me. Leadership position, spiritual, yet questioning your spirituality ... and avoid alcohol. It's not good for you. Does that resonate?

I want to change my name it's Jamie and everyone thinks it's a boys name or they can't pronounce it. You wouldn't believe how many cultures can't say it. I want to change my name to Jasmine. Nobody will say Jasmine is a boys name.

That's all great but most EU countries don't let you change your name unless it's offensive and you literally have to go through court and prove to them why it's necessary. You can't do it just because of a preference.

That's weird. I changed my name the first time when I was still under Danish jurisdiction, and I know tons of other people in Denmark who have done the same, with zero problems. And Denmark is part of the EU. I think you're misinformed, or at least it's not true across all of EU.

Very few. Most people who'd use my old name are just forgetful. I don't mind. Family members and others who have known me since I was a child and whom I only rarely. Totally understandable. It's a bit weird to most people. I get it.

Nope. Just go to the courts, then the consulate to get issued new passport, DMV for new ID, and social security for new social security card.

I'm thinking ( have thought about it for many, many years ) about changing my last name legally. I never liked it, I never felt attached to it at all. There is a lot of alcohol abuse history within my family, ( my father, uncles, aunt are all alcoholics and bear my last name ). Even though I love them all, and my father didn't touch alcohol for years, my last name is associated with alcoholics in my town because of them. I have been living in another country for 22 years so this doesn't bother me that much but I still hate my last name. The only reason why I didn't change my name is that I feel guilt even thinking about it, as if this would by an act of betrayal to my family and all my ancestors. I would never tell my family that I changed my name if it comes to that some day. I think that would hit my dad very hard, and he is almost 75. Don't know how to get rid of that betrayal feeling though.

you might both do some forgiveness and healing on your feelings towards the family history of abuse, and at the same time, you can absolutely change your name. I'm very familiar with the feeling that we're betraying our family, but if it makes you more you, then it's the opposite. They lived and died and sacrificed so that YOU could be YOU. If changing your name helps you do that better, go for it. That's you honoring them, not betraying them. If we don't choose to become our true selves, what are we all doing all of this sacrificing for? Then it's all retch and no vomit, as Alan Watts said.
