I love how the Metroid Dread trailer just tells you in the first 5 seconds that it's the next in the main Metroid series. Just straight up "Metroid 5" without any fanfare or bullshit before they show you the rest of the trailer.

i do generally agree, but the directs still have this problem of when they do focus on a particular game for longer then average, it's usually either a game that just doesn't warrant that large of a focus or a game that we already know a good amount about anyway.

I think part of what made Nintendo’s stuff more enjoyable (at least for me) was the pacing of the direct. If there was something I didn’t particularly have much interest in, it wouldn’t be hanging around for very long. Even though I wasn’t a fan of probably half of the games, I still really appreciate the way Nintendo structures their showcases. Edit: I appreciate the discussion.

@@ninjaruss4205 Beyond what they showed, I think it was great HOW they showed it. Snappy, quick, and without a moment to waste. That Guardians of The Galaxy trailer that square showed off for almost 20 minutes looks better and doesn’t drag out the show when you only show 2 minutes of it and leave the rest for demonstration later. It sat much better with me as “I’m probably not getting this game, it just isn’t my thing,” Rather than the square show where I was getting frustrated at seeing them highlight it and take over the Final Fantasy Collection and Secret of Mana sequel that they showed for much less time. Short version: Nintendo let me brush it off, while Square made me resent that game.

@@zegreenemachine8160 also agreed. They showed stuff long enough to appreciate it for the people that like it and never overstayed its welcome. Yeah square really disappointed me this year. However the only reason I think they showed so much of GotG was because dragon quest just did their 35th anniversary. They had a few drops that should've been at this presentation but they left them out and didn't have much to show here. The DQ anniversary announced DQ 12 and a remake of DQ 3 that would've been perfect here as well

@@ninjaruss4205 Excellent points. Since you mentioned those extra things from square, I am puzzled they didn’t show that off. I thought that the performances by other studios were rather underwhelming because A: their games didn’t appeal to me B: They didn’t seem to fully grasp this format for presenting their games. E3 is definitely at its worst when it isn’t fun. When the things you see aren’t to your tastes (which is almost guaranteed to happen) and when you can’t ever escape the fact that no matter how much these companies dress it up… We are effectively watching hours of uninterrupted commercials. With good structure to your presentation, you can change the perception of the show from “Aww man, I’m gonna watch a bunch of Ads” to “HOLY F*CKING JESUS CAN YOU BELIEVE THERE’S A BRAND NEW (insert favorite new game) OH MY GOD AAAAAAAA!!!” P.S: I feel kinda bad for being disrespectful to the GotG game makers, since they probably worked a lot to make that game work. They just wanna make a living in this industry.

My first thought when the Kazuya trailer dropped was "max is gonna lose his shit" This game is foolish to stop DLC after the next character

For me, this Direct was good because there was something in here for everybody. There are plenty of people who really dig super monkey ball remastered as well as people who don’t, there are people who are SUPER HYPED over the fact that the 2D Metroid series finally has a new installment that’s a continuation of Fusion, and there are some people like Max for example that’s like “Oh cool. It’s not Prime 4 but I’ll take it I guess”. There are people who don’t give a shit about Advance Wars and other people who are stoked to see it, there are people who don’t care about Warioware and people who are happy to finally see an installment on Switch. There are people who don’t know who the fuck Kazuya is as much as there are people who are happy to see a TEKKEN representative. Again, something for everybody in this Direct.

I'm feeling confident SMT will be up my alley if I manage not to get filtered by difficulty. My favorite parts of persona 5 so far have been the dungeons by a country mile. I don't hate high school weeb shit but it bores me to tears in persona for some reason. The dungeon gameplay is real addicting though

The Infinite multiplayer trailer *was* pretty cool though

Right after the Direct finished, I had a think about what WASN'T there that I wanted to see (like a new Mario Kart) and how that affected my enjoyment of the Direct. Weirdly, it didn't. It was paced so well, it had such interesting games that I wasn't disappointed at all. It was a good day.

it had a lot of cool stuff, so much so that even if what you wanted wasnt shown you had no real reason to be disapointed, i also had some stuff i expected to see but didnt and i was still satisfied in the end

Yeah it was an interesting mix of what did and didn't show. Bayo 3 still absent (I'm so sorry fellow Bayo fans), SMTV got a release date. Prime 4 was out(no surprise), but we get Metroid Dread releasing this year. No Splatoon 3, but we get BOTW2 footage and "aiming for 2022." There were other rumored or hinted at games like the next MonolithSoft game, the next DK and the next Kirby but there was enough quality stuff here that it all evens out. And now we have a pretty decently filled out year meanwhile Nintendo can keep the next installments of their key franchises close to their chest.

I'm still in utter disbelief that Metroid Dread is actually happening. Been waiting for it since 2005.

I can't tell the difference between Max's sarcasm excitement and real excitement.

To me, gameplay is way more important than graphics. Sure a game can LOOK beautiful, but terrible gameplay can mar the experience. But if a game looks terrible but the gameplay is top notch, you can forgive the looks.

I'm somewhere in the middle on the subject. I remember when Nintendo did both. Amazing games that played great but also pushed graphics. The GC era had a lot of games like that. RE4 looks infinitely better on GC than on PS2. My wish for the Switch was a home console that was beefy like the GC with a great traditional controller.(I hated waggle) I didn't really get that, but I love the Pro Controller and the games so far have been pretty great. Artstyle goes a long way, especially with first party Nintendo. My wish one day though is for Nintendo to return to both. I'd kill for a Nintendo console as capable as my PS5.

And that you are right, Max. Kazuya IS in Tekken!

Yeah, Nintendo really knocked it out of the park with this one Edit: Max is the first person I've seen to actually guess that it was Shin Magami Tensei instead of Persona

Just to clarify Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water isn't just coming to the Switch but also PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S, and PC. Nintendo gave the series back to Koei Tecmo I believe.

@@Mari_Izu I don’t really recall Nintendo co-owned property showing up on other consoles though. I mean, sure there’s their mobile market…. It’s more probable that you are right, but Nintendo will only hold the series back if they continue owning it. Such wasted potential that never happened with the series. I guess they did buy the holding rights and they wouldn’t just give that back, they’d want money from Tecmo if that was the case.

@@coldDrive If you could name a few for me; I'd appreciate it. Because, I'd expect any game, no matter how difficult they may be, still can be fun in their own right, the Souls games for one. If the player is engaged with the game, then, they'd would STILL be having some sort of fun, right? It's only once that player gives up on the game, out of frustration, unplayability, or simply an overall bad game(riddled with bugs, horrible game design, etc); then I'd think they weren't having any real "fun" with the game. League of Legends is the first game that comes to mind, where that "...major engagement point is "fun". " comes to mind. I can't believe many people play that game out of having a fun time with it....

This week has been kinda glorious as a ninty fan, seeing fake switch pro """"""""""leakers"""""""""" get completely BTFO followed by a direct full of deep cuts, what a wild ride lol

It took me till 2016 to play and beat Super Metroid, and I was so mad at myself afterwards that I had never played it sooner. Amazing game that turned me onto the series.

Yeah, it's actually a legitimate issue. Between Mario Golf, SMTV, Metroid, Mario Party, Wario Ware, Advanced Wars, and Monkey Ball, I don't think I can nearly afford them all, I'm actually going to have to pick and choose what I get. And that's not even everything, I also really want stuff like Neo TWEWY and the new Pocky and Rocky! I really have way too much on my radar lol, I need to reel it in

@@luansomething380 Yeah, I don't blame people for feeling let down by the direct but I'm having the exact opposite issue lol. Metroid is an instant day one buy, don't even bother fucking asking lol. SMT I'm torn on because it looks fucking phenomenal to me but I worry I may not have what it takes to fully commit to it just yet. I'll see how I feel in November, I might just wait a few months. Monkey Ball is a coin toss, if I had more faith in these remaster they'd be a day one buy but I'm just so extremely cautious with these because OG monkey ball means so much to me. If the reception is real strong and it still feels like the OG, I'll pick them up easily. Otherwise, ehhh I dunno. Everything else I'll just have to weigh how much I want them. Definitely getting Pocky and Rocky though.

Nintendo won E3 for me, with Microsoft as close second. Really happy that Metroid gets a new game and Botw2 looks great 👍

FYI : Kazuya Mishima was indeed is in the Tekken series, from Tekken 1 to Tekken 7, heck even got in crossfight in tekken vs street fight and Tekken's tag team tournament and Tekken movies. And you better believe it, bro.

Gamecube and Gameboy Advance kids had a field day with this direct. A sequel to Metroid Fusion, Remake of Advance Wars, new WarioWare, classic boards and minigames in Mario Party, so much good stuff.

2:14 yes Kazuya IS in Tekken, really cool that he got added to Smash Bros tho

I can't wait to see you try out Super Metroid. It's literally one of my favorite video games of all time.

thats because there is no switch pro.....LMFAO its not happening...At best its the next console and at best it wouldn't be happening until 2022....Its not just a Sony having problems getting semi-conductors, its an ENTIRE PLANET thing......There are only 2 semi-conductor plants in the world and 1 silicon plant that makes silicon for the semi-conductors....the 2 plants have been shut down and the silicon plant had a fire. The entire world has been shut down for 15 months the semi-conductor shortage effects Sony, MS, Nintendo, Car manufacturers, phone manufacturers, PCs, PC cards etc.....New hardware for anyone isn't getting announced until 2022 at the earliest.

I’m not ashamed to say that I yelled from insane amounts of hype at my workplace from Kazuya and Metroid Dread in front of people. June has been redeemed, this is the best day of the whole month.

Nintendo never fails. I can't think of one year where Nintendo didn't have "1" good game.

I cannot wait to watch Max react to the Kazuya showcase, I loved his Terry one too!

Well, there you have it. The Game heavily inspired by Alien, is getting its Xenomorph-like enemy that you can do nothing but run from.

Now I need to see max playing Metroid Fusión, Zero mission and the Prime Trilogy.

Nintendo did everything in their power to make E32021 not a complete waste. Thank you Nintendo.

Loved the pacing of this direct. Plus We finally get Metroid Dread after so long, I am immensely satisfied and overjoyed.

I'm 20 years old and I remember playing monkey ball every time I went to church because they had a little area in the cafeteria that let us kids play while they were setting up the service.

The Nintendo E3 train kept going more and more hype... I thought i was tired from work but the whole 40 minute showcase just energized me!!!!

Yeah so... Nintendo definitely killed this year’s E3. Without even much effort.

@@Jarock316 Dumb thing to say. PS has and will keep killing it. Same with Nintendo. The only one that has yet to prove itself in my opinion is Series X. I'm hoping they finally deliver on the promise of amazing exclusive titles.

Mario+Rabbibs is genuinely way better than you'd think, I recommend it to strategy fans.

I wouldnt say they "saved it", but Nintendo was the only company not disrespecting viewers at this E3.

Yeah, I agree with that. If Nintendo showed (with gameplay) Prime 4, Metroid 5 and BOTW2 all at the same time, that would be an example of a company laying all their weapons at the table, showing the big guns so to speak (as it usually worked when E3 was at it's peak). But you can see Nintendo are actually saving them for their own presentations and etc Microsoft kinda tried to do that, but their exclusives don't look that great... and that's it, everyone else disrespected the viewers as you said

@@RRRRRRRRR33 I mean, nobody cares about E3 at this point, Nintendo will show their big guns in their own event (just like Sony with State of Play), however, they at least showed SOMETHING. I still cant believe Capcom had the balls to make their biggest announcement (RE8 DLC) with a black screen with some text, or that Square-Enix released ALL their trailers with NO MUSIC. This E3 was imposible to save, maybe if Nintendo would've showed trailers (with release dates) of Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4...maybe. Still cant believe how bad this event was, I think it might be the last E3 they made, this was embarrasing.

@@Jose-se9pu In a way, they have nothing to lose really. The awful capcom presentation for example, it will not hurt the sales of resident evil 8, monster hunter and so on. It's disrespectful, but not to a point of making us mad enough to not buy what they are "presenting". At least for me, I did not played RE8 yet, but I am still interested. I am not a fan of Halo, but the free multiplayer seems interesting, etc.. So, even if the event was awful, it's not like it is a failure or anything. People are talking about the games presented on it (just like we are doing now), sales will not be negatively or positive affected... it's just a waste of time to watch them live so to speak. So, maybe this is the lesson here, read a summary of what they presented, pick a game of your liking (I did that with Metroid Dread) and that's it. To watch 40 minutes straight... ain't nobody got time for that lol
