Max's reaction to Mario Kart 8 DLC was the same as mine. I was so sure it was going to be like 16 courses and a cash grab and then when I saw the 48 I was genuinely surprised and impressed. They literally doubled the courses.

It actually is $25 for all 6 waves of courses, with 48 tracks, doubling the number of tracks in the game for about $0.50 per course. Not a bad deal, honestly.

@@bioswat96 Copy pasted? They are remade to take advantage of the new mechanics. Would a sequel be better? Obviously. However, with this game still selling millions of units each year, they have no need to make it yet. Giving us more tracks than we would get in a new game, added to the current 48 tracks, for less than half the price of that new game, is pretty damn good. Don’t forget that 16 of the 32 tracks in Mario Kart 9 would be remade old tracks, so really, we lose out on 16 new tracks to get 48 remade tracks, and every track from Tour will be new for tons of people, myself included. You jumping in with ad hominem logic fallacy right out the gate, means your argument has no argument. 😂🤣

Imagine a Mario Musou game where you play as Bowser and the Koopa Kingdom's elites and you just mow down the Mushroom Kingdom's troops. Kind of explains how Bowser gets Peach at the start of the regular Mario games. Hmm... maybe mix 3 games into 1? Phase 1 you play Koopa Kingdom Musou style and blow away the Mushroom Kingdom. Phase 2 you play Mario like regular and you rescue the Princess. Phase 3 you play a Kingdom building game as Peach rebuilding the Mushroom Kingdom, then you cycle back to Phase 1.

As hilarious as this is, why does he hate it? Don't get me wrong, I don't think everyone has to like the things I like. In fact, I enjoy it just a bit more when I see people get salty about the things I like, such as when we get more Fire Emblem characters in Smash. Mario Party Superstars has sold really well. I’d be shocked if they didn’t have some sort of DLC, however I could see them dedicating MPS2 to GameCube and MP8 mini games and boards. However I just want them to do new shit, but still have old elements. Treat it like Mario kart where you make a few new boards, but have a few callbacks as well. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

Max, Live A Live and Front Mission are the classic RPGs made by Squaresoft that didn't went to western audience, those games are directly targeted at you. Also I have to note that Front Mission remake is being developed by Forever Entertainment, who worked on Panzer Dragoon remake and is supposed to be working on HotD remake as well. Not sure what's happening there, but if they're not extremely busy working on both remakes, I'm guessing HotD remake has been delayed or might even be cancelled.

@@andrigunnar6366 Chrono Cross is the sequel to Chrono Trigger so if you want to play them in order, Chrono Trigger would come first. And Chrono Trigger is amazing. Absolutely worth playing. Chrono Cross is just okay in comparison.

This was a direct where if you were into some of the genres they focused on you were really happy. If not then it didn't have too much for you. As a JRPG fan seeing Chrono Cross Remastered, Live a Live get a full 2.5D remake in English and Front Mission 1 + 2 remake were pretty fucking big deals. I don't own a Switch so hopefully those come to PC. Also the Mother 3 troll was evil but also pretty funny.

Three Mage Sisters EX really has a 0 to Death combo super and I love it.

Interesting quip from Max saying Live A Live looked all over the place. Takashi Tokita learned from the lack of cohesiveness from that game to create the sublime Chrono Trigger which tied the dimension hopping together in a much more satisfactory design.

I had never heard of it before this direct but it looks amazing. I love the art style and it’s really cool how there are multiple playable characters that all sort of exist in like a different era of the world. It gives me octopath traveler vibes. Not sure if that game was inspired by live a live but it sure seems like it was. What console did it originally come out on?

Funny part is, Forever Entertainment who's making the Front Mission remake? Are the same people making the Panzer Dragoon AND House of the Dead remakes. It was rumoured they were being hired by SquareEnix to work on some of their franchises, but now I'm just curious if they've abandoned HotD in favor of this, and what's really happening with all the projects they're supposed to be on...

Nintendo Switch Sports is not a full-price game. In UK it is £30. I assume it will be like $35 in US. The price is reasonable but honestly, they should have given this with subscription service for free as well since Wii sport was free.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the front mission remake. Hopefully they'll get the rest of them eventually. 3 was my introduction to the series and remains my favorite.

The Xbox 360 version of Force Unleashed is already available on the Series X through Backwards Compatibility. As such, having the Wii version be the base allows people to have both versions on modern consoles (albeit each one is on a single platform).

The price is designed to drive people to the Expansion Pass. It may have already paid for itself. If Nintendo can put out over $50 worth of content a year for it, it'll be worth it, especially for people who plan on trading in at the end of the Switch life cycle anyway.

Nintendo learned one thing from the MK8D: release Mario Kart early in a console‘s life cycle. Expect to see MK9 as a launch (or close to launch) title for the next console.

Mario Kart is litteraly Nintendo's strongest IP, more than Smash, regular Mario, Zelda or even Pokémon. That's how you secure the success of the system, which is probably why BotW 2 will release before the new console is out.

Soon as I heard Chrono cross I went "LETS FOCKIN GOOO"

For me it’s 3: Front Mission remakes, New Mario Striker, And Xenoblade 3! Others I liked are Crono Cross remake, Live A Live Globally, Kirby.

Live a live being back makes me believe everything is possible.. my god!!! Ending with xbc3 is just nuts! Such a fantastic direct!!

Arguably the Force Unleashed on Wii was actually the best version gameplay wise. While you don't get DLC, you get 1v1 local fights and some levels were designed around the limitations of the Wii. Now if they somehow manage to port the DLC missions to the wii version that would be insane and godlike. Also if I remember the 360/PS3 versions had really bad framerates in comparison.

Fun fact, the Wii version is actually a port of the PS2 version with added content, and the PS2 version was ported to PSP/Vita as well with different extra content. I've tried to tell people for years that it's the superior version content-wise but most people have only played the PC / 360 / PS3 version.

I think there were also story missions, game modes, and the like that were not in the PS3/X360/PC ports.

@@BetweenTheLyons Definitely, I've played both the PS3 and Wii versions and the Jedi Temple missions weren't in the PS3 ver. Made the Wii one feel more complete as a game. Which I find extremely funny 'cause the Wii version of TFU2 was hot garbage, and the Playstation version felt more like a complete game.

Live A Live and front mission remake made me go wild. So many memories

As someone who loves Mario Kart 8, I am extremely excited for these waves of DLC.

Biggest highlight for me was Mario Strikers, my favourite Mario sports series is back. One of the few football games I like.

FYI: LIVE A LIVE is a game from the Squaresoft era that was composed by Yoko Shimomura and directed by Takashi Tokita (FF IV, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve).

Damn, Front Mission, Live a Live and Chrono Cross? Square really wanted my attention, and they got it! Pretty interested in Triangle Strategy, even tho I think the name is really dumb. I always assumed that was just a working title.

Nope Max, it's $25 FOR THE ENTIRE PASS All 6 waves are included in that one pass

Ooh, the surprise Earthbound intro music made me so happy.

Max slowly getting up and spinning the chair during the Switch Sports live gameplay sequence had me in tears.

Yeah, games like Mario Kart exist to sell new Nintendo Systems. So if there's no new system coming anytime soon, there's no point in making an MK9 from Nintendo's point of view.

I'm actually stoked they're bringing back Coconut Mall. That was my favorite from MKWii

That Front Mission 1-2 announcement was so out of left field. But got me so happy. Maybe we’ll get the other ones down the line too

In retrospect, there WAS a lot of Squeenix stuff in there! Chrono Cross, Kingdom Hearts, Front Mission, Live A Live... If Nintendo is second, third place goes to Bandai Namco with SD Gundam, Taiko no Tatsujin, and Klonoa!

New courses till the end of 2023 for Mario kart. Hope none of you expected the next Mario kart game

I hadn't seen that you had played Strikers recently, so THANK YOU for once again willing a game into existence lol. I had already lost hope for more Strikers after so many years, and I'm ecstatic.

I feel like they were going to announce House of the Dead. But Miyamoto, who was of course personally watching this stream live, heard Max calling them assholes, and decided to pull the plug on the whole project. lol

Honestly, the Live A Live announcement made this for me. I played through the translated SNES rom recently. It's a fantastic game and I'm glad to see them giving it love. Gives me hope that we get some other neglected Square stuff now.

when I heard 48 new tracks I knew there was a catch, they are basically remastered tracks from older MK games, so they arent necessarily all-new. The tracks from the last MK should've been a no-brainer 1 year after release of the Switch.

I was blown away when Live-A-Live was announced.....cannot state enough how much that game is awesome

Yeah he really doesn't play that many nintendo games as far as I know. I've only really seen him play nintendo couch co-op games like mario kart, smash Brothers, Mario party, and the mario sports games with the exception of becoming a metroid weeb last year and some of their older stuff from the nes and snes.

I'm calling it now, they're working on an HD-2D Chrono Trigger. Live-A-Live is the spiritual predecessor to it and Chrono Cross is getting a port.

Can't get a read if he hates it or simply doesn't care and is throwing out passionately unwarranted non-opinions to make up for the lack of him having anything real to say about it. The latter is probably more true, but come on! Front Mission and Star Wars, tho. Must be the Year of Throwbacks.

I've been waiting to play Chrono Cross for literal decades. It's my second favorite JRPG but has the best soundtrack in video game history IMO. This made my fucking day!

Earthbound is on the same level as FF7, I hope you give it a shot Max!

That Chrono Cross theme still fuckin slaps so hard

I thought we would get a Mario movie trailer! But, it was a great Nintendo Direct! I was hyped when I saw Mario Strikers! It’s going to be awesome! Mario always have incredible games! I’m excited Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Splatoon 3 too!

My roommate and I were watching the direct and he goes “bet they’re gonna show a new Wii sports” and then the new Wii sports announcement happens (switch sports I guess now) and we look at each other with wide eyes, brings back so many memories of when my dad brought us home a Wii In 2007 with Wii sports and Mario Kart Wii.

@@yrh002b8 I mean Nintendo does have a longer history than any other gaming market. We literally all grew up on Nintendo and some of us branched out.

For the uninformed, this is the second Fire Emblem Warriors. There was one shortly after the Switch launched that was very successful. It makes sense that they'd make a Three Houses specific Warriors game based on how insanely popular both games were individually. Also the Mario Kart DLC being free with the Switch Expansion Pass is a pretty massive buff for it. It absolutely feels worth that pricetag now with the N64, Genesis, and Animal Crossing DLC in addition.

Hot takes: the Kirby game is a tech demo for what the new Smash will play like, and Wii Sports is a public litmus test for what the new Mii will look like.

Switch Sport announcement got Max self-conscious about his health so he stood up for some light exercise.
