I think Carrie Underwood has the voice to be in Martina's class but she sings to many up tempo pop sounding songs that don't really showcase her vocal talent.

Not trying to be rude here but who exactly underrates Martina? She has won the Academy Of Country Music Awards Top Female Vocalist of the Year three times, the Country Music Association Award for Female Vocalist of the Year four times and has been nominated numerous other times for those two awards, and is generally regarded as one of the best female voices ever in country music.

Her voice is amazing and then some!

Martina did this live on one of the awards shows when it came out as a single and she nailed it. I think she won Female Vocalist of the Year the next year and that performance had to be one of the reasons. The audience went crazy when she was done singing this song that night. It really was a showstopper.

Scott Russell that face caught me first in the 90's while I was on Classic Country radio. Fell in love with the Kansas Blue-Eyed Baby Doll after "Independence Day". She still looks great at 51 with teenage daughters.....missed seeing her in concert couple years ago. Those blue eyes could make me rob convenience stores.....lol

i remember as a teenager my life being like this. i had no one to help me. by the time i was 15 i was highly suicidal. it was only leaving my parents and their town to go live with my grandmother that saved me. she never realized the depth of my issues but i knew she loved and cared for me. it took a few years but i healed. dont ignore your children. if you see them struggling reach out get them help . . . no matter how many times they might say they are fine if your gut tells you otherwise listen to it. never let them get to the point that they would rather die than live. you could regret it

Anna Wauson I was always different from my mom and younger sister they were the ones who loved visiting with others Me on the other hand cant be in a room of more than 3 to 4 people maybe and even 3 is stretching it She and my mom are practically twins I can talk to my mom about things that happened to us but not about my views or opinions My sister and I are pretty much the same can talk about the past but not about views unless we want to fight cant even talk about what I love with her writing/reading etc. Even our friends know that we were never very close not including my sisters dad who abused our mother I was always the quiet one just now starting to learn confidence in my self struggling with it day by day

A long time ago, I got to sit next to Martina when she sang. No studio tricks, no production. Just her and a guitar player. In person, her voice is actually far more impressive than what you see here. She's a force of nature.

There isn't a so called female country artist today that could match this song and that voice. Oh my Goddess! !!!!

I love Martina McBride. Her songs are so incredible and the words "I know you can hear me, but I'm not sure you're listening" are very powerful in their meaning. This gorgeous coat she is wearing she wanted to buy it and was like no I don't need it the price is too much. Her husband said well if you wear it in a music video then it's a tax write off, good and smart man ;)

Lisa B martina gives me the impression that she really works her butt off for everything the tries. She puts a lot of thought, effort and passion to her work. She deserves the coat.

She truly hits home with this song for so many. Her voice is amazing, so powerful and true.

What a voice!!! She can hold a note for so very long it's amazing. God how I love her music. Martina and Linda Ronstadt have two of the most amazing voices of all time so dynamic with incredible range.

She was a part of The Lilith Fair tour one year in the late '90's and man she belted out this song but good.The audience wanted more Martina after her set was done. She was so amazing.

I really miss these days...the 90’s were the best and the music was the best!!!

She's a personification of excellence in breath control the way she can hold a note and tie it to another phrase! Not including that powerful voice! That's why she was called the Celine Dion of country music!

Damn, Martina has the BLUEST eyes and the most amazing voice. I’m a guy but this song and “Independence Day” are my guilty pleasures. The very first time I ever heard this song, I was hopelessly lost and driving at night in a snow storm in Appalachia outside Harlan Kentucky. Every time I hear this song, I think back to the girl who gave me a couch to sleep on that night.

213 ppl don't have any clue of what talent is. Martina has the voice any female vocalist would dream of. Absolutely love her..

This is what is missing from todays country music, good storytelling. Todays country music is all about stuff and getting drunk.

Martina McBride's music is so much better than most stuff that's out. For starters her songs have meanings and in every song is a message waiting to be heard :)

It is one of my favorites too, but I still think the top of my list is "Concrete Angel", just tears your heart out. The first time I saw the video I was in tears by the time it was over, and was so stunned that I was almost paralyzed, took about 30 seconds before I could move.

This was the first song I heard from Martina! I was 17 in 2001 and we got cable! My mum used to love it when I put the country station on and CMT would play! I saw this for the first time and remember her voice soaring during each chorus and loving that bright purple coat against the white wall! I joined a CD club and for my first order I was aloud 4 free CD's! I saw one I could chose was an album called Evolution from Martina so I ticked the box to get that CD and when it came in the mail I looked on the back and saw one of the tracks was "Whatever you say"! SO EXCITED! Still my fave album from her and since then have bought every album from her! So good to see this video after all these years!

2020. I'm getting ready to pack my bags and walk. 6 years and a kid. Forever isnt real when one person refuses to talk and the other is so tired of trying by themselves.

The way she belts out the lyrics blows me away, even to this day. Her music means more now than it ever has. The new generation to come up needs a reminder of our core values and how we need to live our lives... with respect, understanding and most of all .. love.

Saw her sing this live at like the 1998 CMA’s. I have it recorded on an old VHS tape somewhere. Amazing live performance, even better than the recorded version, if you can believe it. Faith Hill got up to win an award later in the night and said, “Man if I could sing like that”. The 90’s were the best. 💛

For someone so small she can really hit those high notes & keep them for a long time!!!!! Awesome singer

I’ve read some of the comments and while I will forever remain a huge fan of Martina I have to say that there are so many women in country that do not come close to her voice but there are a few that can surpass Martina’s voice and one being Carrie Underwood. Almost every song Martina sings speaks to a part of my Life in some fashion. This one rends my Heart. Things I said to fill the empty spaces in conversation. Things I didn't have the courage to say out loud, when it might have mattered to the one I loved most.

I don’t think I have ever heard Martina McBride do music that doesn’t have intense emotional depth and significance. She covers some really hard roads with songs like Concrete Angel and Independence Day. Wonderful music..just plain wonderful.

I think this is my favorite Martina McBride song. You have to really have talent to hit those notes powerfully and hold them for several seconds. I think this puts her up there with Celine Dion and Whitney Houston (before all those years of hard living destroyed her voice) in vocal abilities. Christina Aguilera could hit the notes, but she let's her octave range just up and done so much that it's just irritating.

I love how she always tries to get into every possible case of life and it's bad edges and shows us to fix it and tries to get us and others to understand. It takes a great person to be able to do that, and she does.
