Lyrics:
Lookin' at you through a misty moonlight
Katy did sing like a symphony
Porch swing swayin' like a Tennessee lullaby
Melody blowing through the willow tree
What was I supposed to do
Standing there lookin' at you
A lonely boy far from home
Maybe it was Memphis
Maybe it was Southern summer nights
Maybe it was you maybe it was me
But it sure felt right
Read about you in a Faulkner novel
Met you once in a Williams play
Heard about you in a country love song
Summer night beauty took my breath away
What was I supposed to do
Standing there lookin' at you
A lonely boy far from home
Every night now since I've been back home
I lie awake drifting in my memory
I think about you on your momma's front porch swing
Talking that way so soft to me
What was I supposed to do
Standing there lookin' at you
A lonely boy far from home
Maybe it was Memphis
Maybe it was Southern summer nights
Maybe it was Memphis
Maybe it was Southern summer nights
What was I supposed to do
Standing there lookin' at you
A lonely boy far from home

Cotton fields! I’m half Haitian and French! Watching it as a teenager didn’t see any thing wrong! Again I was baffled about the Martin Luther Movement! We have been freed since 1804, I couldn’t understand Blacks in as early as 1950s had different water fountains! Granted the southerners are one chromosome from being a potato! America is America! Never understood homosephians anyway! We are due for another deluge! Not before my wonderful Irish Haitian French Norwegian give me some grandchildren 😅

Same! I was younger than 16, but I was with my Daddy. I was a Daddy’s girl through and through and wouldn’t let him go anywhere without me. He LOVED country music and country gospel. Anyways, we’d be together in the car and I’d sing my little heart out to this song. Windows down and all. That’s what this song takes me back to every time. He’s been gone 12 years now and I find these songs to feel closer to him. ❤

When I was a kid I never really understood why my dad liked listening to the oldies so much. Now I know why. 80s & 90s Country just takes me back to when life was better!
Takes me back to 1992 on an open stage in Detroit. Michelle Wright, Mark Chestnut played, Pam was next and it started to rain... They wouldn't let her play because of the rain. It started to let up and she came out with her acoustic and started singing to those of us that stayed, rain stopped and her band joined in, it was most memorable concert I`ve ever been to!

I even seen Hank Williams Jr there way back in 82 or 83 it was I think the first year for the hoedown. To be honest with you I didn’t even know who Hank Jr was at that time I went with a buddy of mine that used togo school in Tennessee and then come back to summer in Detroit his parents didn’t want him going to Detroit Public schools . I lived in southwest Detroit & went to southwestern hi school class of 84..I was 16 in 82 and I only listened to rock . But after that I slowly started listening to some country music.

Heard this song for the first time not too long ago in my home state of Oklahoma, loved it from the beginning. Country music artists today could never put out music this good.

Damn this woman goes hard in that chorus. Shit these guys and gals today do not even come close. I miss the nineties and am blessed it was my childhood.
This song alone made her a Legend!
I crank this when it plays on the radio
Still listening to this in 2023🖤🖤 I still get butterflies in my stomach when I hear it.
Another small beautiful woman with a voice of a thousand angels her and Martina Mcbride

Hello how are you doing today?
Sometimes a person and a song are just meant to be. As times goes by this rings so true because of Pam Tillis and Maybe it was Memphis. Great video that shows her true beauty and sensuous looks.
