My ex wife used to play this song in the background and I never really listened to it.. till I took her on a family trip, to Korea, and then she left me after. This song kept popping up to me and I finally listened to it.. then I have listened to it dozens and dozens of times.. it helped me cry the pain away but also help me be a better man. So now, 4 years later I am a better man but still love this song. So this is to my ex wife. Your prayers were answered but years later.. I'm sorry but bless you and your family now!

Wow, after spending 22 years with an abusive husband and father of my two children, this really hits home I ran from him, running away from my home and everything to escape the abuse that I had grown strong enough to overcome. Now years later, he and I are friends and I miss him, but I am not gonna cross that bridge again, cause like the song says,,, he still needs to be a better man, where I am concerned. I just think there are some bridges once crossed are better left behind. I LOVE THIS.

I bet it was a decision from the label who weren't convinced it was suited for her vocals or album. I'm glad she reclaimed it on her version of Red ❤

I found that better man. Everyone deserves someone who hugs and kisses you at night, misses you when you're gone, doesn't have to be flowers and chocolates, but someone who appreciates you. If it starts to not feel right, as much as it hurts, its better to leave before it becomes violent. There will be a better man around the corner.

So true - I broke up with my boyfriend two weeks ago. He had a lot of mental issues when I met him but he was working through them and on the right track. I thought he was it, that we would get married and I was so happy, then two months ago things started to spiral, he was manipulative and angry and aggressive and I left. He's now blaming me for his life de-railing, but he wasn't looking after himself any more and I can't help someone who won't help themselves. He texted me after the breakup saying that he was sorry that he didn't appreciate me when he had me and he wished me the best. This song sums up everything for me right now.

Ignoring all of the romantic lyrics and themes in this, this song actually describes pretty well how I feel about my dad. I genuinely wish he was a better man. This song really captures how we can't just turn off our love for people, even when they're so bad for us. I had to move away from my parents before I could begin to heal my relationship with my dad. If you need to do the same with someone, please know that it's not always weakness to walk away. Like the song says, sometimes the bravest thing you can do is run.

If you don't know yet, Taylor Swift has a version of it too. She write this song about Jake Gyllenhaal, as most fans speculated. But she replaced it with "All Too Well" on which is also has a same vibe with "Better Man" because ATW is about Jake too.

I gave him everything you could give to someone and he proved not to be a good man. I am so thankful to have heard this song. I am doing this all on my own and this song really helped me remember what I deserve. Some days are easier than others but I'm thankful God played this song for me today.

This music video is gorgeous in every way, from the lyrics and singing to the cinematography. I love the contrast between past and present, the way it feels like history is repeating itself as we get an insight of her dad's mind. The details are also so clever; the cup on the sink along with the dirty dishes later dripping coffee, the watch on the table being on her dad's wrist, the wedding ring left alone and the different shots of each character running across the field, hesitantly looking behind like they know they have to leave but it tears them apart to do so. Brilliant, I wish I'd seen this sooner!

Taylor is a Genius when it comes to song writing. She has a way of making you feel that the song was wrote especially for you. I have given the same man more times than I care to admit. 45 yrs 4 sons and 8 grandkids and I literally, physically, mentally and emotionally CAN NOT TAKE ANOTHER DAY. Which truly sucks because I know he could be a better man. He was great in the beginning but all the cheating and lying changed him into someone I don't even know anymore 💔🖤

Simran M The song is amazing for sure. However, Taylor Swift wrote/composed the song, not just the lyrics. Taylor sent the finished song to Little Big Town for them to have a listen and decide if they wanted to cut it or not. People do not understand that Taylor is quite the musician as well and is often mistaken as being the type of artist that only contributes the odd lyric here and there. If that were the case Taylor Swift would be spelled C-A-R-R-I-E U-N-D-E-R-W-O-O-D!!!

This song hits so close to home. I ended a 4 year relationship with a man that I planned to marry and start a family with. I discovered 2-1/2 years into the relationship that he is an addict and had been abusing opioids for many years. His addiction got worse and he turned emotionally and mentally abusive. If you have experience with what meth and heroin can do to a person, then you may understand what I'm talking about. It was a very bad situation and I had to make the tough decision to end the relationship 5 months ago. I'm constantly haunted by the "what if's". I wish he had gotten the help he needed when there was still hope to have the future we wanted together. I wish he had been a better man, not just for me, but for himself and his family.

When I was a child he never hugged me told me he loved me and it really affected me as I became an adult looking for that in a man I had a lot of learning and growing up to do in my 20s because of it ..... so when I listen to the song it's not because I'm in a relationship it just reminds me of myDad

I don't know, Forever and Always was barely country and Enchanted wasn't country at all. When it comes to Taylor Swift and country, it's a bit of her second album but really just her first album. Her old writing style was a lot more immature. There was a lot of potential, but her first albums do not compare to 1989 in any way. They just don't. Sophistication, sonical factor and cohesivity, maturity, writing, enjoyability and etc. She became much better as time goes on

I didn't need you to be a better man. I needed you to know that you were an AMAZING man.. worthy of all of the love a human can give. I took you for you and everything that came with you although I couldn't handle the ONE thing. It's moot as you'd tell me. I know it's not a coincidence that so many people say they saw/see/feel/felt/knew/know we were/are soulmates. Now you're gone and I have to live in unexplainable raw pain and emptiness without you while I do my best raising our kids to honor everything about you, carry your legacy with pride while they hold the key to the true you and let the world know that you were the best man. So, until we're together for eternity ; Remember always... all of my love forever and watch over us. I know you aren't going anywhere anytime soon and you're very much around several of us. We, I love you ❤️

Donna, the truth of the matter is that in my opinion, one does not have to be so "politically correct" in their statements about specifics. Sure, they may have been recognized in 2012 as Maz Max said and I apologize to him for my error. But I strongly feel that this "Incredible Band," has been overlooked so many times that they could have been honored and it would literally bother me because I didn't understand why? I feel your support and greatly appreciate the fact that there is another person or maybe many who can vouch for the Way we feel about them. I just became baffled at the fact of the nominations, stating their worth to the "Country Music" industry but never really allowing them to be a winner in any award category, (possibly my error Maz Max.) It makes me feel better knowing I was wrong but I just remember what I remember and that does not see them being recognized for their "Full Potential," as a true "Country Music Band." I do hope you are right Donna because this song deserved recognition as so many others have. The difference being that this song sounds "Country," when today, most "Country " songs do not. Please don't get me wrong. I like the direction that Keith Urban and many others have taken Country Music. In speaking of Keith Urban, he is another who has not been recognized for his full potential. Peace to 'You" Donna!

This song means more to me than I could adequately put into words. I first heard it just as it became clear that I needed to walk away from a toxic relationship, and the words gave voice to feelings I couldn't express. Although it's taken me a while to break free (and in my heart I'm still not totally free) this song gave me the courage to do "the bravest thing I ever did". It's been a year now and I still feel weak and addicted to the time it felt like magic, but I hear this song and I know I'm better off on my own. Thank you, Taylor, for masterfully putting into words what I could not, and to Kimberly, Karen, Jimi, and Philip, for making it into such achingly beautiful music. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is why they say music changes people. Song of the Year? More like song of a decade.

AGREED! Looks like it might make it to 10 million in 2 months. This needs more promo. Know people who never listen to country but when I insisted, they were blown away.

1695kitkat well it's a Taylor swift song. Everyone keeps saying. So I don't think it'll get more views than what it has. Idk.

This is the first song this year that I've felt emotional from the first listen. I think mostly because I'm in love with Taylor, and hearing those honest and deeply personal words from her breaks my heart that she had felt this way about a man.

Sometimes,no matter how much you love someone, for your own sanity and survival you have to walk away. It can hurt like hell but you’ll get over that eventually. What you might never get over, if you stay, is the mental, emotional and sometimes the physical damage.

If Taylor Swift released this song as her own. People wont be appreciating the songwriting here. It would just probably end up in a Gossip Article about who the song is for. I’m glad she chose Little Big Town so that this song would actually live to it’s potential.
