Lyrics:
This one's for the girls
Who've ever had a broken heart
Who've wished upon a shooting star
You're beautiful the way you are
This one's for the girls
Who love without holding back
Who dream with everything they have
All around the world
This one's for the girls

I'm a black boy from the city and I absolutely grew up with Martina, Faith Hill, Brooks & Dunn, the Dixie Chicks and more. Music is one of the remaining things that brings us all together. We need it more now than ever

Good music is good music no matter the race. I listen to everything from alternative to gangsta rap. I grew up in the 90s where we had ridiculously diverse music so I don't have a favorite genre I just like what's good.

I remember this song when I got my first apartment. I used to blast it. Living on dreams and spaghetti o's was the truth. It took me getting my own place to finally understand what mama used to say. 'I pay the cost to be the boss'. LOL! I seriously hated when she said that. Got my own apartment and was surprised that food didn't magically appear in the fridge. I said as a kid that I would only buy name brand stuff...yeah no. Life is a hell of a teacher! 45 now and a nurse. This song got me through a rough time in my twenties

I turned 27 today, and this song is so relatable. Your teens are hard, but no one warned me about 20s. The feeling when adulthood starts setting in. How hard it is to let go of your past. Feeling like life isn't what you thought it'd be. I hope you find hope and that you look at your life with kind eyes. Don't be so hard on yourself. Just because I doesn't look the way you thought it would, doesn't mean you failed. Keep going!

When she says hold onto your innocence stand your ground when everyone else is giving in… I’ll translate that. She’s saying don’t get used !!! We feel we have to say yes to sex, we can grow up in a home full of people and feel unloved when you feel you have to say yes to sex or you’re saying no to the possibility of love… Don’t do it do you hear me? Don’t do it! If everyone else is giving in you’ll just be like everyone else but if you’re the girl who does not give in because when it seems like you’re saying no to the possibility of love just because you feel like you got to have sex to get that love it’s never going to give you that love sex is not going to get you love. What will get you love if you stand out as the girl does not give in and have sex like everyone else now is it going to be with that boy/man who’s pressuring you know down deep inside that it is not and you won’t want to listen to that voice because you’re gonna want to love so bad because you didn’t get love at home. Don’t get used because it feels worse than what it feels like when you think you need the love because you didn’t get it growing up at home so then on top of that now you’re getting used for sex. I was pressured into having sex at 13 years old I was so curious and he was so good looking. In fact my older sister would talk about him years before I ever went to high school and I knew who he was when he started flirting with me in school but he was only out to use me for sex and then he never spoke to me again. Yes he took my virginity and never spoke to me again. Don’t get used for sex. You’re beautiful the way you are. And… This one’s for the girls 💕💕💕💕💛💛💛💛💛💕💕

I’m 26 and this past year has been the hardest year of my life. I almost gave up back in November 2020. I swore to God I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t take anymore. The hits just kept coming. My mom sent me this song this morning and I’ve never felt more at peace with what has happened and what’s probably coming.. I guess it’s nice to know that I’m not alone. She wrote this for a reason & it blew up for a reason. This song speaks to the millions of us out here.

So amazed by how many women in the comments, like me, listened to this gem for the first time when they were 13, and felt that the first verse spoke directly to them, literally and figuratively. I love that the verse can be interpreted multiple ways. It could be about virginity, but it could also be about not just following trends and being true to yourself.

I wish that I had heard that advice when I was 13 - how different my life would be now at 16. I remember hearing this song in the car with my mom, who is 42, a lot when I was little, I just never quite understood the lyrics. I just wish I could go back in time and hear that simple, yet strong bit of lyrics; "Hold onto, onto your innocence."

I imagine there are many who consciously and more often, sub-consciously, are in pursuit of innocence recovered. This is one of those things which may separate you from another who cares little or nothing for the precious beauty of innocence. The path is simple, really... ask God to reveal your actual sins to you and that you see them as he does so that you may live out your moments and days and enter the next life having truly repented of them.

  • @amazinglats6020

why does it matter if you have your "innocence" unless you got pregnant the only repercussions as a female is a dampened ability to pair bond, which is a strong negative, but one sexual encounter isnt the end of the world. the second repercussion is if you got pregnant which is an obvious financial money sink. Stop focusing on little details that aren't too significant and learn how to research for the things you desire. Want to be rich? research what job pays alot, and how to get there while also researching how to manage your finances, its simple emergency fund cut out needless spending pay off debt invest, invest in a 401k save at least a 20% down payment on a house 15 year fixed mortgage (preferably 100% down payment, achievable in 6 years if you reallly want it enough) life isnt too difficult to be successful in you just have to put in an effort for the things you want and stop obsessing over pointless time wasting activities.

Never heard this song before today and was raised on 90s country and everything else. This song reminds me of my father who passed away 20 yrs ago. He served time then turned his life around. The times in between I know he was a good man that wasn't perfect. He did his best and I'm proud of that man and do my best to pass on the lessons he taught. The power of the mind is a wonderful thing especially in prison
