I love the “the one often imitated, but never duplicated” part
With that last clip, if you watch the whole performance, she usually lips that long note and the verse just below, but you can see in that performance, when she goes to lip "so when it's for real, it's forever", nothing happens/plays so she literally has about a couple of seconds to prep herself to sing that last note and verse live which is why she looks a little ticked off at the end of it. The same happend with the WBT performance actually, the backing track didn't play when it was supposed to, so again she had a second to prep herself and sing it all live. Nothing but respect for her doing that!

Minne riperton is the one who brought whistle voice into songs and implemented the whistle voice into pop song.. even mariah is inspired by her.. but i agree that mariah popularized whistle voice even more and now many young singer are aspire to have them.
