Speechless. She brings her Broadway sensibilities to this eyewitness account of the crucifixion and the result is brutally affecting. When she sings about the "stripes upon his back" she nearly speaks the phrase in outrage; when she sings about "his love for you and me," her lilting phrasing falls like leaves from a tree branch. You believe it. Reaching up for an unexpected high note on the final pronounciation of "Christ" in the coda just blows me away. Then the song slips away to a simple hum. I agree with you about the humility required for a performance like this. There's not an ornamentation to be heard. The song is not about Lea; it's about something bigger. She's astute enough to get out of the way. Not too many vocalists could pull this off. She even looks gorgeous!

Lea means excellent with humility.😍🥰 She sang it for her Savior and King 👑 and God. Glory to God 🙌🏻🙏❤️

Other youtuber are doing podcast and inviting artist to interview. Hope you get to feature Lea and get to talk to her while she's at home bcos of quarantine. I think it's easier now to reach her than when the border opened then she'll be a moving target.

By the way, this performance wasn’t part of a memorial service. It’s a concert of the US Military Academy Cadet Glee Club singing mainly patriotic songs (of course, this song is an exception). It was recorded for an album and I think there were only 2 guest artists - one was Lea.

I love this song so much. And I’m very happy that Lea took this chance to cover the song. Her voice holds so much emotions and power that we’re like transported and took the Via Dolorosa route that Christ took on His way to Calvary. This song is usually sung during Holy Week, to commemorate Christ’s way to the cross. The suffering, the pain, etc. Lea have justice by having the right amount of emotions. Beautiful storytelling, I agree 100%

Fresh, crisp, clear, suave, you can really be drawn to her singing and what she's singing rather than her trying to draw the attention to her but to the song. Love it.

“Sacrifice” that was truly personified made alive by Lea’s rendition of this song . . and when voiced out the word “Christ” there was a deep reverence I can’t express, one needs to get immersed in the sound of her song . . . yes it becomes her song indeed. Thank you.

In 2019 Lea had a concert tour in the UK pls react to her rendition of Hamilton's Burn and see if she still using the same technique because this one is more recent... and also her Impromptu singing of alone, the complete footage in a bar.. lastly with her daughter singing "shy"

I thought we were getting Salonga Sundays every two weeks! "Burn" was in mid-April and we got "Via Dolorosa" three weeks later. And it's now been three weeks since "Via Dolorosa" came out. I need my Lea fix!!!

Lea gives the ultimate, definitive performance, but you make no mention of just how bad the recording is. She is not forward enough in the mix. Far too much piano, percussion and brass that her narrative gets overpowered by the accompaniment, the fault of the conductor and sound engineer.

First time I've seen her w/o so much make-up, on which makes her look like a raccoon. Either of you know what year this was recorded in?

The album and dvd that this was on was released in September 2005, so I assume it was recorded in 2004 or 2005.

I wonder, what makes you think this outfit isn’t suitable for a performance in a church? This isn’t a church service. It’s an understated outfit as the event isn’t about her, yet smart and simple. I think it’s a good choice. Anything more would be too much. X But yes there’s so so much more to take from this performance than the outfit. ✨
