I've watched too many reaction videos from Vocal coaches and theatre singers of this performance of Lea and I must say that I only understood about the reasons behind the technicalities and the over all musicality of this performance through you guys. It's so wonderful how you present and interpret your observations in a way that people who knows less or nothing about the technical stuff could understand; someone who understand this better than we do; someone whom not only have a background in the musical theatre but are passionate about it. I love what you said about the parts where Eponin was in a dream state and how she is when she's back in the "reality". It was like an "ahh" moment for me. haha.... This helped me appreciate this performance even more. Thank you so much for that. Keep it up you guys and more power to your channel. Love from the Philippines!

I'll have to see if she was playing Eponine in the West End at this time, I don't know. She definitely delivered!!! xx

The great thing about Lea S. is every time she performs a song she doesn't just understand the meaning of the song but she also captures the emotions of the songwriter as they are making it. And be able to convey it to the audience with speech clarity and emotional tone of voice. No listener would miss any of the messages of the song, which is very important in a broadway musical.

We had gone to Les Mis, and had a fantastic time (saw Lea later in Les Mis). She was such a talent, right from the start. Seeing her live, seeing Les Mis live, is an experience that is forever locked in your mind. Memories, thank you Lea!

O7:15 '..in the darkness..' in this part I always sigh too. I've never heard anyone sing, invoke imagery of the word 'darkness' in such a bright and positively magical way. It became the perfect backdrop for beautiful things or like a veil that hids wonderful possibilities.. her delivery defied the common usage of that word. She paints with her voice so well.

Seeing how Lea is a technical singer and how she had to make her performances absolutely perfect back in the day, I would like to think that she has a basement somewhere that’s just full of notes on characters she’s played, their personalities in certain songs, her vocal capabilities in relation to the character, how she can portray her character through voice, etc.

You forgot to mention the phrasing on the last line “But only on my own”. Lea did not take a breath throughout this line unlike all the other performers (research them) of this song who take a breath after “but only...”! Excellent breath control.

Hiya! Just enjoyed your reaction video. I’m living now here in Huddersfield! Just want to expand your reaction with the Queen of Philippine Music alongside Lea Salonga, please react to Ms Regine Velasquez singing What Kind of Fool I am in a red gown sitting down. A classic hit by Sammy Davis Jr. It’s really incredible and you can dissect her technique as well. Xx Cheer

I found the French lyrics for this song, and the translation is not the same as it is in English. Translating from one language to another can never be the same since it would lose its meaning. Here are the French lyrics with the English translation. I'm all alone again, without a friend, with nothing to do. I am in no hurry to rediscover my loneliness and my misery. I wait until evening comes to evoke it in my memory. I walk alone and every night the streets of the city belong to me. All my thoughts fly to him and I put my life in his. Paris sleeps in the dark, I can invent my story. My story is a dream that begins in the pages of a fairy tale from my childhood. Eyes closed, my prince finally embraces me. And I pray that his embrace never comes undone. With him I am no longer the same. I like the rain and when we walk. Our two shadows, like two giants who love each other. Lie down at our feet and admire themselves in the Seine. I know very well that I made it all up. I know very well that he is never by my side. And yet, I continue to believe that with him, I write my story. Yes, I love it, but how the nights are short. In the morning, he resumed his journey. And the world, become the same again. Has lost its colours and the rainbow its tiara. Yes, I love him, but I'm alone in the world. All my life I've waited for a shadow. My story is an empty shell. A dream full of sweetness of which I have never had my share. And love him, yes, I love him, yes, I love him. All alone in my story.
