World-renowned and multi-awarded theater performer. Concert artist and movie actress at that. Tagalog and Spanish pronunciations are similar as we both use long vowels AEIOU and as mentioned by some commenters colonized by Spain for a very long time.

sorry but she does sing in jazz clubs 'cabarets' like Cafe Carlyle, Feinsteins 54 Below and Marie Crisis piano bar where musical theater lovers hangout. you can see a lot of her performances in these night clubs here in youtube, these clubs are high end ones. it's where some politicians, socialites, celebs go to be entertained. it means she's always busy, if not on a big stage, she could be on a smaller stage doing gigs, sidelines, or simply put 'earning a living'.

@@sgtjoe2008 We watched her in Fienstein 54. She was terrific. Yes Feinstein is not a cheap club and seats for her show was very hard to reserve.

@@sgtjoe2008 but those are just after her shows to unwind but not literally paid to sing in those clubs you saw. one of the clubs you saw her singing is the club owned by her friend Darren. and the others are theater pips hangouts. She did however Fienstein 54 but not as a regular gig its more like mini concerts but not exactly what the author implied. And her family is not poor either she doesn't need to sing in clubs just to earn a buck or like what you said "earning a living". I have worked with Lea since she was pretty young and mostly she grew up sheltered and well provided.

Are you joking? Night club singer? Lea Salonga is not close to being a night club singer. She is a Tony Award winning actress and the voice of Princess Jasmine and Mulan. The lead in the original Miss Saigon and Le Miserables.
She is a professional vocalist who has had a career of more than 40 years and she is not a night club singer. LOL.
