Letters to an Asexual

I usually feature ignorant people's letters in this series, but for my milestone 100th episode, I took submissions from the community to feature their moments of asexuality-related joyful experiences and their stories of being too ace for words. I hope you enjoy them.

Thanks for including my story ... I had only been out a month at that point and that was when I learned that there are a LOT of Ace writers. This has been confirmed on Twitter, when my Journalism Twitter and Ace Twitter friends appear to be one and the same, based on stuff I post that they like.Either that or they're just affirming.

Thanks for sending in your touching story. We all need to hear how knowledge about asexuality can lift people out of deep pits the way it happened for you.

@@swankivy Yeah. The day I discovered I'm ace was one of the best days of my life, I can say. It really was a transformative moment for me. I for the first time felt like I could breathe and felt like all the pieces fit together for the first time. It's like my life fell into place at that moment. It's so insane it took leaving everything including church to do so. It was all worth it. I'm more than grateful. I've never been happier, and I have asexuality to thank for that.

This was so wonderful, alot of variety in the moments ppl shared which is awesome to see. Thx for including mine...I had actually forgotten what moment I had talked about for this so it made me laugh to hear my own words explaining it again. Also, I love your hair accessory! 🖤💜💚

That's okay, I didn't ask for pronouns and only included them if I knew them from either knowing the person or them having them in the profile. (Most of the responses were on Twitter and so many people there put pronouns in bio.) I'm so happy you were glad to see yours included! I was very pleased to get some replies on KZread!

Eyy it's my story! Yeah I suppose I am kind of a nerd about safe sex lol, for some reason it's always me who has to explain to allosexuals what a finger cot is (which is, frankly, baffling. Surely one who at least in theory does have sex would want to have a thorough working knowledge of how to protect oneself from STIs?) Congratulations on 100 letters! I'm amazed that there is still content left to be mined, but I suppose misconceptions about asexuality are infinitely varied

I know right? I have a porn-obsessed friend who nevertheless had never heard of very well-known fetishes and when I casually mentioned one I had to explain it to him. I guess being part of sexuality-related communities allows for lots of overlap with sex geeks and, ya know, BEING INFORMED IN GENERAL. Thanks for participating in my 100th. :)

First congratulations on your 100th video in this series! That's so amazing. As for porn parties... I wonder when this one happened and how old the participants were. They said there were no phones around at that time, but they also mentioned PornHub, which according to Wikipedia came out in 2007, the same year the iPhone came out. I mean, nowadays, porn is so available. It hasn't always been so available. Especially, um, the moving kind. Either the content or the way of showing it. When I was a senior in high school, in 1985, I went to a porn party. A friend of mine had a VCR and his parents were away, so we could actually watch the stuff without getting into trouble. In the 40s and 50s, there were "stag films," which were reel-to-reel movies that could only be shown with a reel-to-reel projector and a screen, so they were usually shown at were called "stag parties." (I think. I mean, I'm not THAT old.) And what is the deal with dirty jeans?

I guess porn not being available the same as it is now would make it make SOMEWHAT more sense, but I still got the impression that most people don't want to watch something that is designed to make them horny around people they cannot act out the horniness with. I don't think it would be weird at all if it were an orgy or it were people who might have sex. But the person who described their experience clearly didn't even know porn was going to be featured. That aspect of it absolutely is bizarre.

Another great video, hope to see number 200. Would have given a story but i really couldn't think of anything but your content is fantastic an gives me a little boost whenever i start to wonder if anyone actually thinks like me. Like your book btw, nearly finished reading an i intend to give it to my friend so they can understand better. Love your work.

I can only guess hot or sexy. Sometimes that stuff grosses me out but I am sex positive with all the consent of such things. I mean I am gray ace and get horny at times just as a feeling as I age, but nothing turns me on in thought or visually. I don't have kinks or fetishes as far as I know. I understand the pressures living in the bible belt about expectations. Glad so many found happiness being themselves and sharing that.

I was in college and the group started watching a porn movie at a party. I didn't drive there and couldn't leave. But it was OK because they were kind of hate watching it. "Oh don't put that in your mouth, you don't know where it's been!" Within 5 minutes they decided to watch a more benign classic comedy.

Yeah I feel like being in a group watching porn you have to be making fun of it or watching it with people who you want to be aroused with, because otherwise what is the point of porn? I can see why some people might find it funny to turn it on but actually sitting around with a group of friends engaged with that content seems very odd.

I am male heterosexual and married. I like watching your videos to learn more about my wife. She does not admit that she is asexual but I am sure that she is. I learned something from this video. Been married ten years and always wondered why my wife had no sense of the humor in sexual innuendos. She has a sense of humor but I always had to explain a sex joke or innuendo to her. She also always makes the least sexual interpretation of everything. One more confirmation that she is asexual. The fact is that she has so little interest, she does not even care to know if she is asexual. The whole subject is uninteresting to her. It is hard for me to deal with a sexless marriage, but I love her and can not live without her. I have to be celibate if I want to be with her.
