How does one really KNOW if they need the fan unless they add an oil temperature gauge? Adding the oil temp sensor certainly enlightened me about over-heating oil on the 1025r.

I bought my Massey used a few years ago. Noticed a year later that the fan was damaged. Never had a problem. Perhaps the cooler New Hampshire weather helped. I replaced it any way. It was a difficult repair, and i understand it is much easier than other tractors. Its protected now by a plate!

I had a branch get in there and sheared my fan blades. I live in the Phoenix area so I need all the cooling I can get. I replaced it myself. I used a hole saw to make access to the bolt securing the drive shaft. Did not have to remove the entire sheet metal floor and fender assembly. A 1” plastic plug fills the hole when done. I got the BXpanded protection installed after that.

Could you post a video and explain what/how you did that? Lucas Peek did his and I think it took all about an hour or hour and a half. He drilled a he on the hump below the seat allowing access to get to fan bolts. Its amazing that kubota engineers cant come up with a fix, yet youtubers can. These engineers need to be fired, IMO. I'm.not sure if Paul Short gmhas ever did this and made a video, but he explained that its a very long process. I have a lot of his mods on my bx1880. I highly recommend him and wife Kathy.

what part of the country are you located and what's the hottest temps you have operated without a fan? Mine just broke and I am located in middle TN. It gets pretty warm out here. Also I feel like if Kubota were to find out I was running with a broken fan they would void my warranty.

It probably isn’t even appropriate for me to weigh in on this subject as I have an L series with gear drive. To me, it doesn’t seem that Kubota would go to the trouble and expense of putting those on the BX series if they weren’t absolutely necessary. It’s kind of like with is. We can live with one arm or one leg, or even one eye, but they are there for a reason I really like the idea of the guard. Much like a grill guard for those of us who work with our tractors in the woods. Especially those with a grapple.

I was glad to see how the BXpanded skid plate works. I've considered it. I would say that climate is a huge factor in whether or not you SHOULD run without the fan. I discovered my fan was broken while washing my tractor after bush hogging on a 90+ day. I noticed the steam coming off my transmission and knew it shouldn't have been that hot. It didn't seem to be hurt, but I am also sure that would shorten the fluid life. Just my thoughts. Thanks for sharing the video! Y'all have a good day!

Just for entertainment comment. I am into garden tractors. Old ones. I have 6 out of my 12 garden tractors that are hydros. Broken fans are one thing, but a lot of old garden tractors never have the cooling fins cleaned on the hydro unit. So, even if the fan is there, in those cases they are not getting cooled the way they should. Dirt, grass and oil plug up these units. Any way, those fans and cooling fins are there for a reason. Right. Those units are not much different than a automatic transmission in your car. If it over heats that’s not good. You will have trouble at some point. So, just my opinion, it would be best to fix those fans, and keep the cooling fins clean on the unit. My oldest garden tractor is a, 1970 John Deere 140H3. Its a hydro. I use it for snow removal and grass cutting. Take care of them and they will last a long time. Again, just my opinion. Have a great day.

Are the fans made of that material of which they make Nyla bone dog toys? It seems like it wouldn’t break if they did. Surely that fan can be replaced with a metal one but would a metal one be too strong and break when it’s attached to other fan driveshaft or the fan axle whatever you call it
