I had the same issue. Im a regular full time giging musician who use to party. I also liked working out and being active. But as you get older that lifestyle isn’t sustainable to have it both ways. I was worried that I wouldn’t enjoy playing music sober. But I had to pick a lane. Im not one to be able to moderate with alcohol, because I use to have that same butterfly feeling bert has with alcohol. So I decided to give up booze and go healthy. I lost 60lbs, My panic attacks went completely away, and now 2 1/2 years sober I love playing live music more than ever. because now im more focused and alert, which means i just perform better, and I enjoy that more than being drunk and playing. I could never see myself going back to that lifestyle. I feel like bert might be coming to that crossroads soon.

@@dylanrandalldrums it is a bit hard at first in early recovery, and drunk people at my shows were annoying at first, but stick with it and with time it becomes more and more enjoyable, and the need to drink disappears. At this point in my sobriety I don’t even think about alcohol or anything when I gig. And when you have gigs friday and saturdays, never hung over on saturdays or sundays! haha keep it going man!

Bret being oddly exemplary at tennis reminds me of the story of when the Williams sisters stormed the office of the Tennis Commission and said they would beat any man around the 200th ranking (so, already not even within top 100). The 203rd ranked player showed up that day hungover, having played a round of golf that morning, smoked cigarettes and continued to drink in between matches, and went on to defeat them 5-0 and 6-1.

My best friend was a lot like Bert. Life of the party for sure and universally loved by all. Big guy and the whole persona to go with it. We were veterans and partied all around the world together for many years. I was never "addicted" to alcohol but I also definitely did love to drink and party. Especially with my best friend. Then in 2015 he just up and dropped dead one night at his house while partying. 47 years old and just like that he was gone. A couple of months later I was having a beer with my cousin on the 4th and I was thinking about my friend when I suddenly realized that I just didn't "feel like" drinking anymore. I got up and poured out the rest of that beer and haven't had any alcohol since then. I tell people it's not even like I quit per se. I just don't want it anymore. It's really just not worth it and looking back I think Americans have been sold on a lie that alcohol has an upside that really isn't there for most people. Most "drinkers" are kicking back crappy beers and poison that is definitely killing them whether they realize it or not. Is there a place for a glass of wine with dinner and/or a nice whisky now and then? Sure, but that's not the experience for most people if they're being honest with themselves. Most people are guzzling buckets of toilet cleaner quality garbage alcohol and thinking it's "refreshing" or something. As they say, you live and learn, if you're lucky enough not to die first.
@GlorifiedGremlin
Жыл бұрын
Most people who will only have that special occasion glass of whiskey, or a glass of wine with a meal that pairs with it, usually they say "oh I don't drink" that's how I am. I've just never been interested after I got out of my binging party phase as a teenager. I don't get the appeal

@@Kalashboy420 Probably took the arm poison. Healthy 22 year olds don't die of strokes. At least they didn't used to. But if you believe it's a matter of "all things being equal" and so it's simply a matter of fate then by all means live it up. Wisdom will befall you with age to let you know differently. It's only natural as your perspective changes with age. Or else it's likely you'll have simply failed to age. Best of luck

@@7eddiii My Grandpa used to ask, "who wants to live to be 100?" Then he'd answer, "the man that's 99." My Grandma will be 91 this month and she's perfectly happy. She loves spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, considering it to be a blessing to have this time with us all. Don't allowed the world to infuse your thinking with cynical negativity that steals your joy. Joy isn't found in beer and the bottom of shot glasses. The commercials are lies. Or, live it up and find out on your own. Sometimes we must take the long journey to arrive at the short truth so I get it. Best of luck.

I'm 40 years old. Loved drinking, still miss it, what I learned about drinking is everything is fine until it's not. Woke up and my eyes and skin were yellow. End up in E.R. Bilirubin is off the chart and I'm being told my liver is not working. A month in hospital followed by rehab. I lived. I really hope Bert can slow down enough so that never happens to him. It's to life changing and could ruin his comedy.

That sounds more like an alcoholic than anything else. Everybody in Britain or at least a vast majority drink multiple times a week and generally get smashed at least once a week. As I’m sure a lot of Americans do. There’s enjoying drink and then drinking to excess every day which is what causes jaundice

Toms impression of bert is so good. I kept thinking they were just playing bert audio
That barstool vid is the best ever. Actually hyped me up to haha
A lot of people know people like that. They are successful, so you can't talk them out of it because their life is not going well and they need outside help like a drunk that lost their job etc. High functioning alcoholic. It will probably hit him hard later in life. My Dad's friends like that died around 60 or definitely felt like shit by then.
Tom is loving his weight loss. Dude looks incredible.

Joe is a the type of friend that everyone needs. Not a yes man and tells you the truth with not wasting precious minutes in life.
Bert is one of the true Enthusiasts in Life. Drink, food, family, friends & fun physical activities.

I don't know why the picture and title of this video made laugh so hard 🤣
drinking and working out goes together so well lol
I love Bert. He is a genuinely funny and nice guy. And just seeing how he treats his friends you know he is gonna have your back no matter what he might show up drunk but he is gonna be there. Joe Rogan is just awesome. I enjoy The JRE podcast it’s funny and informative at times.

Tom's Bert impersonation is so perfect.
Seeing how good Tom looks and hearing how much worse Bert's drinking has gotten is peak 2 bears

I love the friend podcasts more than any others tbh, maybe a tie between scientists and Joe’s friends but they never fail to entertain

I control my alcoholism by only drinking 6 months of the year. I quit New Years Day and start up July 1st. It works so well for me because I will never, ever, ever quit drinking..
Damn Joe got pretty serious when he brought up Bert dying. And you can tell that's coming from a real place of love. So many entertainers die to soon because of the life they live. But to be fair there's a difference between Ralphie May and Bert. Bert's not that unhealthy.
Joe just came right out and said it……”when he dies” and Tom wasn’t ready for it. It actually sunk in, for Tom, at that very moment and it affected him. Bert will see this and it might actually be just what it takes

The best episodes are always with Segura Do you know you guys are so well connected when you talk, The longer you go, you start to finish each other's sentences That's rare You should watch yourselves talk, while you sit and talk about it I'm serious, not even trying to be cute but theres chemistry

Honestly guys if Joe and Tom are talking about this for this long and this in-depthly then they probably have noticed behavior lately that is worse than normal. I hope Bert is doing all right. He has a good support group here if he chooses to tap into it.
