Japan vs. The Islamic State

The brutal beheadings of Japanese nationals Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa by the Islamic State in January have shocked the island nation and lent momentum to an effort to expand the limitations imposed on its constitution and military after its defeat by the United States in World War II.
Leftists in Japan fear that the incident will encourage a departure from the country's pacifist constitution, whose Article 9 states that "the Japanese people forever renounce… the threat or use of force as a means of settling international disputes." Right-wingers, meanwhile, see an opportunity to allow Japan to assert itself as a truly sovereign state.
VICE News reports from Japan as its prime minister and right wing are pushing for re-militarization of the pacifist nation, amid protests from the left who staunchly oppose any changes to Article 9 of the constitution.

They have the raw materials and the infrastructure to do so. This does not make them weak. Also, the JGSDF is small, but technologically worthy. Are you so uneducated, that you do not understand the reasoning behind the reliance on the USA for military protection? A hint, it has something to do with WWII, smart guy. You are right, Japan is allied with us now, and we make up a large part of their military considering we have more than 7 bases on Japan turf, we protect them, and supply them with natural resources like oil etc. Considering they are pretty much all out, and they are on an Island. Japan WILL be allied with us if we go to war, the only countries that would side with Russia is other communist countries, cause communism sticks together. Vietnam, Korea, China, Russia, and some other smaller Asian countries, and some Arab countries. They would lose against us, but the world would still go up in flames, we have the majority of Europe, Hispanic countries, and Canada. Why I say Canada!? Because if a nuke was to go off, Canada is right above us... they will be effected, also France is allied with the U.S, and most Canadians originated from France.

Since Japan is no longer an imperialistic entity, them adopting a proper military might not be such a bad idea. Tomy Canis The issue may not matter to the West, but it still matters a lot to Russia, China, and North Korea. these countries were devastated by Japan and still hold a huge grudge. If Japan start militarizing, it may set of an arms race with China, Russia, and North Korea. And their (China/Russia) traditional enemies will also join the race: like India (which will trigger Pakistan). In that, case ISIS will be the least of Japan's worries.

They also trick women (many of them from the Philippines) into prostitution and work as their pimps. I lived in Japan for three years and you'd see these guys working as touts outside seedy businesses, dressed all gaudy and acting faux tough. The Yakuza sounds all cool and menacing to people in the west but they're really just pathetic.

Atheistmonk lol the irony. you act like you know what your talking about. i AM a shia. my cousin lives in an arab country. my parents are from a country which is majority sunni (pakistan). the pakistani community where i live includes many sunnis as well as many many shias. and also, i have met my fair share of sunni arabs as well as even more shia arabs. i can tell you. a majority of the time someone named ali will be a shia. ali is the name of the first shia imam and the 4th caliph of the rashidun caliphate who's descendants were the 12 shia imams. now maybe now and then a sunni arab may have the name ali, but a vast majority of the time it will be a shia. there are other mostly shia-exclusive names as well. like jafar, kazim, reza, hassan, hussain. (there are other shia names but the ones i listed are ones that are hugely common among shias i have never met a sunni with them.) so before you call someone and idiot make sure you know what you are talking about. you stupid fucking *idiot*

+Sheob 多形体 Yea the video addressed this, Japan is practically like a U.S. vassal (vassals in practice are allowed to have defensive forces, but only enough to defend). The defense of the nation is practically up to the U.S. (in my opinion this is the worst nation for that treaty), but one of the men were right, if China ever seriously attacked Japan, the U.S. would be pretty hesitant to bail them out. I would say Japan's SDF could take on North Korea alone, but South Korea would probably help regionally. To me Russia is the least likely to do anything against Japan for no reason. If Japan ever chose to expand it's military I do not think opinions of Japan in the U.S. would dip enough to hate them for it (I would not be surprised that with a bit a push the Security Treaty could be revised). If Japan ever wished to increase its forces now would be the best time in my opinion.

He's probably been in some street fights and gets to intimidate others because he has a small hand gun. heck, he may even have been shot at. But he lives in a highly controlled and urbanised society and has probably never been through too much hardship. The thought of well dressed, over zealous yakuza guys being dropped into a middle eastern battlefield is really funny to me.

Absolutely false. Sure, when they provide opinions they may be biased, which is why people should look at reports instead of listening to media like vice, fox news, TYT etc. There are thousands of terrorist attacks in countries all around the world, including my own. When people get executed on television, racism rises, resistance groups are formed, election results change, etc. This can not go on without serious consiquenses (sorry for possible shit spelling). The horrors arising from the middle east especially are not minor groups popular in the media, in fact i would say they are larger than people like to think. I suggest looking at the numbers rather than the media it self. People hold quite disturbing views, in LARGE numbers, and it is now effecting the west, in the form of extremism as well as non violent movements striving for sharia law, and so on.

Look at everything they lost centuries ago because of pacifism. Unfortunately, being nice will get you no where. He doesn't want to use the deaths of his countrymen to fill up his agenda, but he certainly doesn't want it to happen to others. The left-wing has a point as well, since Abe could use the revising of Article 9 to be able to use the Japanese military in Foreign Operations, which would be too radical for Japanese Politics (not for us, but for them). Even so, the Japanese Military needs an assortment of equipment to aid their operations overseas, and this would cost money; a lot of it, and with the woe economy of Japan... I highly doubt the actions undertaken in such a short time.
