North Korea In The Age Of Trump

VICE Media founder Shane Smith has been traveling to North Korea for years, including during some of the most acrimonious periods in its history. Back in 2018, the country was on a charm offensive and appeared to be slowly emerging from its isolation.
In the wake of a series of inter-Korean summits and the first ever DPRK-U.S. summit, Smith returns to the Korean peninsula to see how Seoul and Pyongyang are reacting to the new détente.

These very rare 'Rare Earth Metals', are essential ingredients in modern electronic equipment. They are found largely in places like China & N. Korea, which held three quarters of world's rare earth reserves. Remember, twenty years ago, it was Iraq, and Saddam, and WMD (weapon of mass destruction). The real motive was Oil. A similar scenario ran in Japan, when that nation too was bullied by maritime sanction; essentially blocking the whole island through naval blockade by Anglo Western naval ships for so long until Japan ran out of (imported) oil, and struck back at Pearl Harbor naval base that participated in year-long sanctions. The issue with a war with North Korea is not the military feasibility of it. The United States would steamroll North Korea in an invasion, as they did in Iraq and against the Taliban. Like those conflicts, however, the tricky part is what happens after the invasion. North Korea is a hermit kingdom, detached from the world. The US would have an incredibly difficult time rebuilding the country and fighting extremists elements that would retreat into the very mountainous countryside. I have no doubts that the Country would be in a VERY volatile situation in the aftermath of such a conflict- it might not even be worth it for the south to integrate the North with how insanely undeveloped it is in comparison.

I hope that the guide and his family weren’t punished for his honesty and choice to disclose information. While it might be for our entertainment or intrigue because this nation is so divisive and controversial... the truth is that three entire generations of a family could be brutally murdered for speaking out in a way the regime doesn’t like. I enjoyed this piece by Vice news but I hope we take into consideration the dangerous position we could be putting North Koreans in who are simply trying to survive each day.
