Front Lines of the Libyan Revolution (Documentary)

VICE Founder Shane Smith takes you into the heart of the Libyan revolution, where the stakes are simple: victory or death. We head into rebel-controlled eastern Libya, traveling from the Egyptian border to Benghazi and then onto the front lines in Misrata to document the violent revolution.

I’ve been looking through old Vice documentaries. They’re some of the best journalism I’ve seen on KZread. Shane is one of the reasons why, he legit takes every opportunity possible for some sort of interview or inside info. Just like when he saw the rocket artillery in this video, he’s always willing to get good content. “Stop, stop, let’s go down there.” Great journalist.

We were there for my grandfathers funeral. The first Eye doctor of Libya Nouri Queiri. I had little idea of what was going on and what my connection was to this country. My other grandfather was Saleh Buisir, former Foreign minister of Libya, killed by Israel when they attacked and shot down passanger flight 114 in the 70s. I wish to go back to Libya and help my country. I am a senior now and my college essay was based on Libya and my connections

@@godalmighty3855 I don't know about that, but at least he prevented it. Libya is dead and don't look good at all. The real dictatorship is hidden behind the name democracy. We believe that we can choose our leaders because they offer us 3-4 alternatives, but if the truth comes out, the people have not chosen any of them. It is rather an offer not a choice. Some countries work better with a leader "dictator" others often have to change "several dictators" they call democracy. I became a soldier at the age of 17 but I can't imagine what it's like fighting in such a war. They really got some balls. Sadly this all was for nothing... All the Libyans I've met here in germany wish Ghaddafi back. Yes he was a tyrant and a criminal but he brought relative safety. A stable Libyan state with a tyrant at the top is better than what became of Libya. Hussein, Ghaddafi and so on... They all were bad but now it's way worse without them.

What? The difference is that these people are literally fighting for their lives against a tyrannical dictator, in which France helped them by supplying weapons in order to make it a safer country (albeit failing). The Yellow Vest PROTESTS were legal protests, in which minor crimes were committed. Its one thing aiding rebels in another country, its another arresting your own people.

Watching this now in 2020 it's incredibly sad. These people have so much hope. As an American it's rare to see deceptions of people in the middle east in such a nuanced unbiased way. They're people just like everyone else, I could easily see myself becoming friends with many of the people interviewed in this. Today, all of these years later I can't help but wonder how many of these people have died from the countless factional wars that are still happening. Three days ago Tripoli was in another huge battle. It's unfortunate, all of that hope for the future. The kid who love's the miami heat, Captain Ali, the guy with one leg. All of them seemed genuinely hopeful for democracy, peace, and freedom but it's just as far away now as it was then.

You don´t know what you have, until you lose it. Under Qaddafi, the Lybians enjoy the best life style in all the African continent, had the best healthcare, housing, education and economy. He was a man of many flows, but he not only cared for his own people, he helped all of Africa try to get out of their missery. It will take 100 years for Lybians to get back to the Qaddafi times.

Gadaffi wasn't a saint. But he was truly developing Libya with the oil they have and helping neighboring African nations. Yes still a petty dictator, but he was financing marriages, helping start up families, start up businesses, and having cheap transportation system and helping people get started with their livelihood. I think he was very pro libyans and wanted to be independently strong. MNCs hate strong nations running on their own talent, hence they create a hegelian dialectic and knock out Gadaffi to put their rapist oil companies and foreign mercenaries and talents into Libya. My prayers go out to the Libyans. Nations are ruining that nation
