My babes! This was really good and insightful. More so for those of us who are not yet there and don't want to be shocked when we are hit by the curve balls when they hit us. Jules xoxo
We would like u guys to do a Husbae tag, your experiences raising kids as working moms, how your relationships have been like the challenges you face n the good times.
I buy my nanny lotion and pads every month. Last year Dec, when she was going home, I did shopping for her mom. The mother was so happy, my nanny came back with mangoes, unga ya uji, omena and beans.

A round of applause for you Darling! Simple acts of love and kindness go along way.
Ivy is such a good communicator!❤
I love this!!!! Addition to being self sufficient and trusting your gut when it comes to your kids, my tip is to interrupt the routine. Like randomly offer to bathe the kids, ask questions, cook, wash your house randomly. You might learn something that's going on that you don't like.
Tip: On the day your househelp is coming for the first time to your house, make sure it is very clean and everything is in order. That way they know your house has a certain standard of cleanliness that should always be maintained like so 😉
I always come back here for comfort when I’m having nanny issues.. thank you for this! x
The wisdom in this episode is unmatched.... Thank you ladies, this was quite insightful.
We need more of issamotherhood vlogs. Most young mothers are finding it so hard out here to manage both the kids and nannies. This was a great one guys😍
I've had only one nanny over 11 years. I'm her 1st employer. She came when my 1st born was 4 days old. We had a mutual agreement on boundaries and very clear (written) expectations both ways. Signed a renewable contract. I give her an annual increment as well as an extra half salary as December bonus. We've had our run-ins but our boundaries, expectations and contract keep things in check.

I pray mine stays with me just as much. I don't have kids nor am I married. But since I moved out of my parents house, I got a help. She is a day bug. And so far it has been over 5 years together. The only issue we have had is when I wanted her to adapt the Konmari method of arranging clothes. That was last year. She has now adapted even the color coding. I am so appreciative of her.
One tip I'd add is that when they leave especially if its on bad terms, you can draft a kasmall document and make them sign saying they have received all their dues. Just in case they decide to frustrate you. Or every time you pay them, have them sign. You can also appreciate them by enrolling them into a short course like tailoring or beauty school especially if their schedule isn't crazy. Looking forward to more IssaMotherhood episodes.

millie chellah it’s wiser to pay them via MPESA. You’ll never worry about any of that.

Why would the nanny need to sign something to prove they've been paid though? Do Americans not pay their nanny's wages straight into their bank account? Money transfers from your account to theirs as evidenced by both parties' bank statements. I don't get it.
@brendahmurugi6948
4 жыл бұрын
@@kerrytaylor1795 if you're talking Americans, most can't afford nannies and if they do, its hourly so you pay them in cash or bank transfer and you have to include that in your tax returns. If a family can afford a full time nanny they have pay slips and shit and are taxed. The system is very different

Just pay via mpesa so thatway there are records..I never pay with cash
Find out what their dreams and ambitions are and find out how best you can assist to achieve them.if its a course, pay for their fees especially if you dont have kids and give them a few hours a day to go take the class, and they always help u find a replacement for you as they transition and grow into their new life.they always make sure they leave you with a good person.
My mum, being a theatre nurse, had a pretty tight and unpredictable schedule. One morning, my then nanny decides she wants to go home as my mum prepares to go to work. Mum begs her to stay for at least a day ajiorganize because the off was short notice. Mum goes to work, then later gets a hysterical call from her then Indian neighbor," Your maid is dangling the baby on the balcony!" You can imagine the panic mum had. She drops everything, rushes home and releases her immediately. I was left with a neighbor coz she was to be on duty in the operating theatre that afternoon. 😩✌ PS. that was 30 years ago😁 I'm well #maidchronicles

I've actually read the words" dangling the baby on the balcony!" Three times and( out loud in disbelief) Who does that? Should the worst have happened, that would have been catastrophic. Glad you are alive;-)

Sorry about that experience.
LOVING this segment. I've found t's essential for the parents to talk over the whole how the help should and shouldn't interact w/ the husband bit as it can be testy when undefined.
Reward system: during December holiday since fare is significantly higher pay for them to and from so they don't use their Salo on it.

listened to this one keenly from start to finish.
I think this is a very useful video. Thank you. All I would add is treat them the way you want to be treated at your work place and by your boss or supervisor. They are human just like you. You are their boss but you are not a superior being than them.

how timely! I just fired my live in nanny who has taken care of my son for the last one year (he is now 18m). I was really depressed thinking about the whole process of getting a new one but this post has made me feel so much at ease, i can now confidently call the bureau. Thanks ladies!
Can we take a moment to realize how much women do to raise our children. Lets not take this ISH for granted.
Thanks Shikkie and Ivy for this episode. Honestly I have been struggling with this Nanny /househelp topic. This is so insightful.

Such a nice episode!Nice is even an understatement! No kid, Still in Uni but I feel ready for motherhood when that time comes. Thanks Shiks and Ivy❤❤
💯 Important Conversation. Thank you for being thoughtful enough to share the conversation with us.
This has been a favorite. So informative.
I'm so late to the game here but I'm really glad I stumbled upon this. Mid 30s, no kids of my own but I've helped out family members and friends with various home management issues. I was really waiting for that "remember that this person is a human being". This is such a crucial thing to remember as an employer in any environment. Now here's someone who you're trusting with your home, kids... and then people still get petty about things like giving them your wifi password. Haiya! I've seen situations where a domestic worker has saved an emergency situation where they had run out of airtime but were able to make emergency calls via WhatsApp. And right now during Covid, the fact that my help can video call with their family means that they're not in and out of the compound, exposing themselves (and me!) unnecessarily.
I'm a guy but I can tell you this video has breathed new life in me. Now I have some points for when my kids come and we need a nanny. Thanks shiki and ivy y'all really rock
Veeeery informative!!! Thanks for this girls ❤. Best ep so far
God bless powerful women who admit and even share tips about having help at home and not pretending to do it all
You're forever adding value ❤️❤️..I love you all
To add on to the rewards, get NHIF . This covers them and their kids. She can register as self employed and you pay directly via Mpesa . Knowing her kids are covered is a motivation for her as well. Plus you don't need to give her cash for the small small illnesses. I waited 6 months till I offered her NHIF
This episode was very insightful. Thanks Ivy and Shikie.I am definitely sharing this info with my friends.
This was a very insightful video, thanks shikie and ivy... More content on motherhood😃😃
Am lucky to have had two nannies in 4 yrs..Patience is the biggest key.Give them increments every yr.if at work u get increments they also deserve it. Try to assist in some chores esp weeknds.i cook most sundays as she rests and watches TV.or comes from her off.Sunday is also family time.where we are just us.
Thanks for this ladies.. I've def learnt a few new things. Man, there is no time or enough space to explain my nanny experience. But it reached a point I chokad and now because of PTSD, I manage the house and kids my self and balance that with work. I am happier for it now, maybe one day I'll get another one, but for now, this is working.
Very informative!!! Good job ladies! ♥️
This is beautiful. Thank you for such wonderful information. Keep it up. Am not in Kenya, but you never know when you are going to need this information. It's always good to learn about new things. Awesome job ladies.

Really enjoyed this episode
This is so informative. I remember as a child, I had a nanny that was really nice but she left and we had a switch of several others before this one nanny came. My siblings and I didn't like her vibe from day 1 and we told mum but she ignored till one day she started insulting my sister and I talked back at her then she went to the kitchen and came back with a knife ready to stab me. I was so traumatized. Having a nanny can be so scary

My advice is, when a nanny shows you their true colors the first time, release them.

When hiring, i make them sign a contract(which we go through with them) outlining the expectations as discussed. When paying their monthly salary, i also make them sign whether i pay via mpesa or cash. I buy the salary voucher from the supermarket.

Hands down🙌💯
This is so informative,,, literally more knowledge to motherhood 😊👏 I'm 19 but anyhow 😂I've learnt something 😊,,Thanks to you
Don't be lost without them!! Be involved and do some tasks for yourself i like this. And that thing of "Don't get so attached to them, my first nanny stayed with us for one year and when she left it was so hard to move on 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣(She went for chistmas and got married🤣🤣🤣🤣). I also think a review/Appraisal and motivation or rewards with bonuses and gifts are important. They are human beings... treat them right!! It is important to treat them the way you would wish to be treated in case you were working as a nanny... or whichever job.
This is so informative❤️
Okay, finally watched to the end and I really like 2 more things: Know your home. Never be lost without your nanny. This is important on every single note but also on the negative - you don't want to feel lost without them around. Second thing is that the conversation is assuming that all nannies are women. Yoh! There's a market out there for male domestic workers (I don't know why people never speak about "houseboys" anymore but cos that conversation died in Kenya, even "manny" seems unnacceptable) who are actually trained in housekeeping, child care, early childhood education and there are also parents out there looking for the same! Or maybe just a different perspective.
Thanks for sharing. God bless you.
you definitely added value, thanks.
Waaaaoh kumbe getting a nanny is not a easy process.i don't why I feel like I revisit this years after when am having a kid building a family. Same here not anywhere close to start family but this here very informative love you guys
Very informative video👏👏

You guys make motherhood to sound so sweet n interesting ...Love u
This was so so so so so helpful. From a British Mum living in the UAE.x
Love love love this episode. Learnt a lot as i join the phase of nanny hiring. Cheers!
That one of nannies and the men in the house is best very high walls are set up. From when we were kids, us boys maintained our distance and my mom made it very clear to all parties.
Loved the video.
