I loved this. I'm happy that we are a generation of mums who are learning to do better and raise kids that are whole.

This is such a great topic. My toddler really pushes my buttons and I often end up punishing him. I always end up feeling terrible😭😭😭😭. I'll try to do better. Parenting is a learning curve.

I am just happy the ass whoopings stopped me from ditching school. This psychology thing that makes you feel like a victim for the most basic of things is silly. There is a kid who is talked to and a kid who needs ass whoopings, I'm the only kid who was beaten in the house. There is a reason for that. This just reminds me of horoscopes, psychologists and psychiatrists just mention things that everyone feels and make you feel like a victim for being disciplined. Hence why single mothers mostly fcuk up kids, there are kids who suffer for time outs, you leave them alone in a corner or room and their reaction is almost maniacal, should we stop time outs too? Continue raising these small people as friends, they will suffer when they're on their own.

I agree hitting just twists something in the child... because it hardens them... it doesn't instill discipline like we were lied to. It basically has the same effect as a prisoner in a maximum prison.... just conditions them to that extreme. If we want to switch up the narrative... lets start now... Thanks Ivy for this... hatujapata watoto but we are learning so much 😘😘

This is such a wonderful topic. The lady in the middle truly started this off well with helping us all understand that discipline is meant to teach and protect. My dad used to spank us when we were younger but NEVER in the heat of the moment. He called a family meeting, explains the error to everyone and would tell you why he gave the spanking. Till this day in any space I've been in, school, work etc I don't make excuses for my mistakes when it's time for "punishment" I understand i was wrong and I needed correcting. All that said, don't hit your kids people😅 self control is really difficult when angry and all we get is a society full of people who think beating people up is the way to get things done.

I think we need a part 2 for this to help answer questions from movers. Personally I realized that usually by the time I'm disciplining my son, I'm usually very upset, how can I manage my emotions before dealing with the situation. 2, how do you deal with good cop bad cop situation in a family set up where one parent seems to be harsher than the other? 3. How do you deal with discipline when your child seems to listen to everyone but you because they sometimes take your love and reassurance for weakness?

Hey ladies..this is a really great topic& diverse, personally Time out dint work, coz I felt,if i sent my kids on time out, they would feel like am rejecting them for making a mistake.i tried it with my son& at the coner he cried ( mummy am sad, he's 3yrs) tried to explain to him, but I decide to stick to Consequnce method& kiboko.for kiboko I use a ka stick instead of my bare hands, as the same hands I use them to pray& bless them...

There is no single solution, no malice but sometimes your kid needs to fear your bark, I was the only sibling who was whooped out of 3 kids and it was for a reason. At some point I grew up and it was my own discipline master/father who told the principal to stop beating me and to start talking to me and giving corporal punishment, watering trees na kufyeka nyasi. Spare the rod spoil the child is Biblical for a reason. Also don't beat the intelligent kid who listens when you reprimand them. Kuna wa kuchapwa na wa kuongea.

I think a tap on the hand for a child is okay but the follow up is what is important. As a parent before you discipline a child be an example of a disciplined human being. My mum used to beat us but she was a great example and that fear she put in us wasn’t bad to an extent cause there are things I feared doing out of shame to not be able to uphold the disciplined standards that my mum held

Beating your child doesn’t mean you don’t love your kids let’s not cheat our parents. As for me, I beat on a repeated mistake and I do it with moderation, and I ask them if they understand why I beat them.As a parent don’t be worried that your kids are not listening to you but be worried that they are watching you. Kids learn by observation. Don’t replace yourself with gadgets especially TVs,laptops, tablets. Personally I don’t advocate for my kids to own such unless is is required at school and for that matter they will use it at school or for homework period.

Hey Ivy great topic learnt so much as my 2 year old drives me to the edge. Another C-Section topic suggestion that would really help is Speech/Language development in toddlers and raising a bi-lingual child e.g teaching the child both kiswahili and english and can this cause language delay and confuse the child....I dont know please help. Thank you.

Time out doesn't work with my 2 year old daughter, She feels rejected and unloved when I tell her to go to her room and think about what she has done, .I use "mwiko" to threaten most of the time, not beat, I beat once in a while when she's repeated the mistake. Bottom line is let's raise disciplined kids however we choose, it's very rude to meet those naughty kids around the estate. Just don't beat them like a thief please. Discipline and make them understand that you are beating the sin and not her, That's how I was taught while growing up.
