I live in semi-rural southern Nevada, halfway between Las Vegas and Death Valley, CA. Once I found out that T-Mobile 5G home internet was available here, I decided to give it a try, given a two-week free trial period. I am so glad I did. I consistently get 150 - 200 download and 50 - 75 upload compared to 50 - 125 download and 10 - 20 upload with Starlink. T-Mobile never slows down at night, whereas Starlink slowed down every night. No buffering at all streaming video with T-Mobile vs. frequent buffering with Starlink. And pricing? My cell phone with Metro by T-Mobile and T-Mobile home internet bundled with autopay runs me a meager $75/month for unlimited everything.

Hello all, I am from Germany, 25 miles away from the Telekom headquarter and the fact that they aren’t able to provide fast internet here in our small village was the reason to buy Starlink. This works great and obviously during the last 6 months that I use it some more satellites were brought into the orbit and the reliability and speed even got better and better. Before the dish was delivered I too tested the newest versions of t-mobile gigacube and the Vodafone equivalent. Both couldn’t convince me, because without any antenna outside, the limitation is always that the signal has to come through the concrete walls. I love my dish and today, with your tutorial of how to repair a broken Starlink cable, I was able to provide the Starlink experience to our neighbors. I cut the cable, used an already existing hole in the wall and brought the cable into the house. Long story short: thanks Joseph for your videos, wish you and your beloved a nice 🐣 Eastern 😘👍

As I've said, We have fat copper available. Though it's 50 or 60 year old infrastructure. Spectrum bought the company. I got the spectrum 100 for 29.99 a month. It's still spotty. The lines need replacing. It's why I left the previous company. The previous company was charging over 100 a month for 100mb service that we were lucky to get 25mb on a good day. I can handle spotty service for 29.99. So we are doing spectrum and starlink dual wan.

From those tests, both T-Mobile and AT&T are suffering with bufferbloat. That means if you’re uploading or downloading, this will noticeable slow other devices and interrupt things like VOIP and video calling. In comparison Starlink is doing amazingly well on bufferbloat.

@@petecoventry6858 Better enjoy "roaming" while you can, it seems every feature I liked the most SL has dropped like portability. Therefore it's cheaper for me to pause SL and go back to my old ISP at the house (wireless PPTP), and use SL strictly for the RV. At least until they drop 'roaming'.. Great bandwidth you have, 6 months after I bought it they moved my home location from 'covered residential area' to 'coming in 2023', and dropped my bandwidth down to around 100mbps measured at the SL router.

So customer service sucks. However, thanks to your videos I am happy now with starlink with the information that you give. I would spend ages working out which provider I needed to give me some service whilst I was away. (this is in an RV) but now I am in it gull time and I have Starlink. It's nice to not have to worry about coverage - and also i get better latency on Starlink than I did on the 5G.. SO for me, for now it's starlink all the way

I have done exactly what you did, only before you did it. :) I find T-Mobile 5G to be slower, but still perfectly acceptable. It seems to be very reliable. Certainly, the price is right. I'm holding on to Starlink for the time being, but considering disconnecting because of their higher price. My primary ISP is Frontier fiber. Their price is very good and there's no throttling or cap. It's very fast (500/500) and works best although their customer service could use a little polish, in my opinion. Their installer said my fiber goes back to their server without need for amplification or relay. That's impressive! I had Spectrum (300/10) for quite a while, but their competition beat them in service and price. They were quasi reliable, with about two outages a month for many hours each.

I've had a very, very similar experience. In the townhouse, I just dumped AT&T after 25+ years. Constant promises of fiber that never happened, shitty speeds, high costs, and attempts to charge for service when I wasn't even there forced my hand. Switched to T-Mobile, and voila! At my Canadian lake house, I had extremely expensive, (and shitty 6Mbps), ADSL. There are no other options here, and not even cell coverage. Went with StarLink a week or so ago, and voila! Now to be fair, StarLink is more expensive on a monthly basis, but the service is in no way comparable. I also paid about $250.00 CDN for the hardware, so not bad at all! And zero charges when I'm not here, either. Absolutely the right way to go - T-Mobile 5G if you can, and StarLink if you can't. So to AT&T and Westport Telecom - "Buh-bye!"

As experienced and active “RV” and full business Starlink, the T-Mobile “home” or “small business” 5G router/service is great. Same for ATT true unlimited 5G is also same level as T-Mobile. ATT uses great portable/fixed (either way) battery back up Netgear router. We use both T-Mobile and ATT for business applications. Flawless. Either with built in antenna or external directional to a sector in a tower. ATT (NOT UVerse) seems faster over time. 300mbs down 32mbs up. T-Mobile is around 100-128mbs down, just under 30mbs up. External directional antenna increase sped a bit (both direction), and lowers jitter to under 30ms. FYI.

I do not think it matters. I was in your neck of your woods for a month on biz. Used this as back up for Starlink “RV” service if issue in FL. No difference in service. Worked great. Where I live, it was pretty stable even with only two bars at about 40Mbps...but at 6pm-Midnight when all my neighbors get home from work we all destroy the local tower's bandwidth and I get 3k pings if I get a response at all. It's functionally useless during that time. You know...the main time I want to use it. Those deprioritization limits need to go way up for me to even think about replacing my Starlink dish. Verizon and AT&T's deprioritization limits were even lower last time I checked.

I absolutely love StarLink, I use it everyday for work and gaming. I have DSL running all streaming services so I don't go over any soon to be caps. The power goes out a lot where I live and all I have to do is fire up a generator and I am back working. Oddly enough I also like seeing the dish mounted knowing I did the work to get it there. The product is amazing. Everything is a true engineering marvel.

I live outside city limits and have 20mbps with CenturyLink DSL. It isn't the best with multiple TV's, computers, tablets, and cellphones. I tried the T-Mobile 5G modem and had great speed between 11pm and 4am, then it dropped to terrible speeds all day. After three months, I had to get rid of it. I just hooked up my StarLink yesterday and the speed ranges from 38mbps to over 100mbps down throughout the day. I'm going to give it 30 days before I make the decision whether to cancel CenturyLink or not....

Moved to Starlink, because in busy/peak times like everyday 6pm - 9pm is busiest time, when all coming back home and starting using 4g/5g around and all of them using same anthenas towers and everyone have bad internet. I think same will be happening on you, if you have a lot of people living around you. Thats why I moved to Starlink.

I ended up dropping Starlink for a couple of reasons. First off, on a good day I was only getting 25Mbps down and 8Mbps up, but the average was closer to 10Mbps down and latency was usually in the 90ms range. Second they had a price increase along with the throttling of data. With the TMO 5G service my speeds are consistent and average about 75Mbps down and 15Mbps up and latency in the 15-20ms range. Another thing that sweetened the deal was switching my mobile service to TMO also ended up saving me more money as it knocked the home internet down to only $30/mo. So, overall I am glad I moved away from Starlink. With that said, If I would have had better and consistent speeds, I would have likely stayed with it. Just wasn't a good fit for me.

Makes sense. In my area we only have viasat, hughesnet, and dsl verizon. So starlink, even with best effort, was the best option. Viasat had a 100 GB limit. For us, 1 TB is not bad and we never hit it. As for the price...well, inflation does suck a great deal. But viasat was like 2.5 the price roughly so

Could you take the SIM card out of the T-Mobile gateway and put it in the thing you were using for AT&T? If that is possible, then you might get a stronger signal, and therefore faster speeds.

I've used the Elsys Amplimax with AT&T before, unfortunatley we do not use it anymore, because AT&T marks it as a 3G device because it has 3G capabilities so AT&T prevents it from being used when I tried using it. I'm not sure how you got around that I am curious to know how.
