I live in the mountains of Colorado, far away from Cable or Cell service. I have Starlink Gen 2, and average 150 mb down, 20 mb up, 28ms ping. Absolutely no complaints (except maybe the cost of entry ). Has been very reliable so far and supports working remotely very well.

I had to use the SpaceX ticketing system in July 2023 (only time I ever needed it) when they shipped my starlink with a router that were not paired correctly. I am a techie so gave them every piece of info I had on the kit including configs etc. Their response was fast and someone even rang me at 7pm on a Sunday (Irish time) from Texas to tell me they had identified the problem with my kit and would send a new one. Got the new kit in 3 days and it worked out of the box. The best product support is the product that needs little support! But I was happy with their Starlink support when I needed it.

I owned Starlink for 2 years now and it is great and served its purpose. This morning, I woke up and noticed them running fiber lines in front of my house. I lived there for 22 years now and never thought this day would come.

Same here. I've lived in the middle of nowhere for 24 years.... I thought that I would never see fiber. My fiber got turned on last week. I'm dropping SL at the end of this billing cycle in March.

Do not cancel Starlink until the fiber is hooked up and running in your home. There have been plenty of horror stories where companies ran fiber and then are delayed or never start the service.

@@gstar7686 had a friend who had the fiber lines out in front of his house burried but still didnt get the access until almost a year later. def dont give it up until its ready to go. as for me. i will never have fiber where i live. i live in corn fields.

@@gstar7686 It's been operational now for a little over a week. FULLY operational. Testing shows that I am getting 948MB/s down and 942MB/s up. All for $75/mo! Happy Happy HAPPY! I will be cancelling SL by the end of the month.

I live in Northern California which does not have the kind of weather you described for California. We experience stormy, snowy weather on and off all winter as well as severe thunderstorms in the warmer months but I have to say that the Starlink service seems to work just fine even when those atmospheric issues exist. Unfortunately for us, we do have trees which cause issues and intermittent outages but we just deal with that and hope the increased number of satellites will help with that problem. Just be aware that California is not all sunshine and warm weather.

I have been living off grid since 1992. We are 45 miles from the closest , phone, cell, and electrical grid. I have tried radio phones, cell boosters and satellite internet of different types. Starlink is by far the best option. I love the independence of having my own electrical and comunication system. Life is grand

HEY JC! finally got my starlink today. lol. ironic with your video here. so. i love it. my speed is 188mbs dl and 23 ul. my previous was 43 dl and 5 ul. this is 90 a month. my previous was 100 a month. so.. 5 times faster.. and ten bucks less a month. had to go out in the snow to set it up. been looking forward to it for so many months now. as you may or may not recall i waited until they had the new wifi router and dish before i bought it. this router is also better than my gaming router i was using. it stretches thru the whole house unlike my previous one, so has a bit more range.

I had Starlink for over 2 years, since beta, and it was a massive upgrade after suffering for many years through dial up and Viasat. Spectrum Fiber was offered to me back in December thanks to the RDOF and I ended up cancelling Starlink. Was kind of sad to let Starlink go though.

Snowing right now, 122 Down 31 Up. Weather hasn't been much of a factor.

Great content! Thanks for all your hard work being fair & honest. We have fiber in the city & a cabin in the mountains without service. We tried to get Viasat but they could not get a service tech up there to install it. By the way, we waited 8 months to get the tech up there for Viasat. We finally cancelled Viasat because they kept moving the install out 3 weeks for 8 months.... Why not admit they can't get service in remote locations? Looks like Starlink is the only real option for the cabin thanks to your simple video. We have a Tesla, and service sucks there as well. But the car is amazing. I'm leaning to Starlink, if we have technical questions we'll have your 240 videos for reference right here!!!!

I have Starlink and cannot believe how robust it is. I run our security off it. Even thru heavy snow couldn’t be happier. I am curios about how well it would work at my house in the city. It works great for us. Almost 200 meg and as low as 50 meg. I use it as a backup ISP for work. Spectrum gig service is about as dependable as a out of work brother inlaw. Evertime it storms a tree will fall in town and take out Spectrum. Starlink is there to save the day. Now, if you live in the woods and don't have a clear view of the sky, then it's not for you. I am a happy customer

I was on starlinks waiting list for almost 2 years, I was finally offered the at&t trash that you mentioned, but it turned out to be a better deal. I live in the middle of nowhere and with the at&t Air I get on an average of 130mb down, 25-30mb up and a 30-60ms ping depending on what game is being played. I've only had it go out 1 time, and it was due to them working on the tower, it seems to do well in the storms. I didn't have to pay for any equipment and for an extra 10$ a month you can get up to 4 boosters for a mesh network. mine is 65$ a month which is half of what starlink monthly cost is. however I will probably get starlink if they get higher speeds and lower ping.

AT&T Air, T-Mobile Home Internet, Verizon Home Internet, all about $50 and if you get good signal at your location it's a win win ... If not.. Starlink is the only option in my opinion.

No internet providers out here in the high desert were we live. About 25 minutes to the highway, an hour 15 to the grocery store. We have well water, septic system and if not for the huge ranches around us, we wouldnt have power. Starlink has been awesome. My wife works from home, we run our phones, laptops, tablets and stream on several devices, never an issue. Always fast. I hope to add one to the off grid/hunting camp location next.

Been using Starlink for over a year in a rural area outside of Phoenix. No cable available, DSL was getting me about 1mb at best. No 5g available. No fiber. Tried a local wireless and they could not get me a consistent connection. Starlink has been flawless and even supports my VPN connection to my office. Several of my neighbors are using it now and they have great results also. Consistent

How do I tell what generation of Starlink that I have ??? I got it back when they had the special price of $199 for the system. I live in Canada and the router can't be hard-wired, only wifi to the computer

Latency on cable or fiber really depends on the carrier. Here in the Philippines for instance in-country content on our fiber connection tends to be quick. So does any content that happens to be served up via provider transparent proxies. Traffic however that has to pass through International gateways tend to get pretty horrible - 200 msec is not uncommon. Sometimes worse. Makes real time protocols such as those used in VoIP non-usable (perhaps a design choice in this case). In these cases a solution that can provide reliable 50 msec latency over International connections is quite attractive.

Seeing that waterspout made me realize one more reason why I don't miss living in my home state of Florida.

Gaming is one of the most asked about things. I have AT&T 5g and Starlink. My 5g is not stable and under load goes crazy. Slower Starlink actually has more stability especially when downloading games. Having said that latency is a thing on quick fps games. I game at work on fiber and latency is sub 7, I get double the kills. Now a lot of games are not pvp. Plenty of fun games to play with friends.

Went from a geostationary service of usd200/mo at 35down/5up speeds 500gb data cap/mo with a permanent dish setup cost of usd2k until SL could service me (PH Island). SL is nothing short of a miracle and makes me feel like I'm actually living in the future.

I live where there is no broadband cellular or fiber option. Starlink or nothing. I was on waiting list for almost a year and have had starlink for over a year. No problems, great speed and dependable service.

90 Mbps where I live cost $140.

Hmm here in Italy we can get Starlink for 40 euro a month. You can either buy the hardware for 450 euro or rent it for a further 10euro month. Price sounds very high in the USA

Here in germany Starlink only cost 50 Euro in month + buy the dish for 400 Euro. Or you rent the dish for 10 Euro, then you pay 60 Euro in month for the system.

The main reason I got Starlink about two years ago was because my DSL connection was going down about every four weeks due to weather. Going down wasn't the issue... the issue was that when it went down, it usually took the dispatching of a technician to repair something at their pedestal down the road.... so it was down for two days at a time. SL has been great... except that the performance went from ~200m/s two years ago to ~ 70m/s today... while the cost went from $99/mo to $110/mo to $120/mo. That is COMPLETELY unacceptable. Just one week ago I had fiber installed for free, with a monthly cost of $75/mo for 1GB/s both up and down. That is TOTALLY ACCEPTABLE! If SL was $50/mo for the same level of service, I would keep it as a backup... but at $120/mo? Forget it. I could afford to keep SL.... so the cost is not the issue.... The issue is I feel like SL is ripping me off... so, BUH-BYE SL!!

I've had Starlink for almost 2 years, and I switched over from Viasat. It has been a great service so far. But like another commenter, a couple of weeks back, they installed a new concrete base with the conduit for fiber across the street from me. I've been here since 1983, so this has been a long time coming. When they finally get ready to offer the service, I will let my Starlink go. But knowing how fast contractors are working on the governments dime go, I won't hold my breath waiting on them. They ran the main fiber lines over 15 years ago.

my brother lives in the country and has hughnet and pays 80 a month and for that he get slow speeds and lag and until recently a data cap at 20G a month which goes away fast if you start streaming, for another 40 bucks I think starlink is worth the extra cost and I finally got him on the fence to drop them and dish and just stream TV and save 55 a month

JC is NOT a fanboy by any means, so kill that noise. JC was one of the ONLY creators to be honest about Olympus, Nikon. Sony, Fuji, Panasonic, and Canon , whose cameras he built wealth with. He gave is the skinny about Adobe and sent us right back to Open Source, which dominates most of my software. He showed us Sony's smaller gems and I have both the ZV1 and E10 which I used last night at my Bday dinner. Now he is covering SpaceX, and even though I do not have it near me, it's great to have FACTS, not opinions from people who have no actual experience with the tech.

I know you have Star Link and TMobile Home. I know most evern 7 miles from towers using a Chester Modem we get up to 400 to 800 down and 70 plus up with T-Mobile. We pay 30 dollars a month. Since you live in an area like a lot of us considered a fringe type area, I would love for you to compare your T-Mobile to your star link. This would help a lot of us in fringe areas where we have both options. I understand that starlink mostly will never go down. To be fair minus hurricanes and the crazy tornado once in a while. Cell phone signals no go down. And home internet speeds are almost always 200 down to 50 up. Ping times as low as 18. Even with these great speeds Starlink still might be better. Help us compared it to and decide. I live in a friend's area and I've had T-Mobile home internet for years. It is also called cause me massive headaches as well. Buying a Chester modem and adding in an external antenna did fix that. Still I am thinking about starlink all the time.

Just took delivery of Starlink in Spain....€40 a month, plus €9 in 'bandwidth' tax.

In Greece that I live we have no hurricanes. So in 12 months that I use starlink in total I had less than a couple of hours with no internet. Worst weather, 30-minute problem. The price here is 40 euros and copper line just 7 euros less but with 2 years contract if you forget to renew it goes 55. But even then, not working 6 months per year at least. 5g works only for a few months, too. In summertime, the speed for 5g was 2.5Mbps. Instead of buying a 1500 iPhone, it is better to buy a starlink for 450 that is here plus an ethernet adaptor for 40 euros here. As for games, even though the pink on landline is much lower, it's not stable at all. So starlink is even on ping faster. Even the 20msec on landline are fake.

My spectrum land internet is $110/month for middle of the road service. It goes out all the time Vs my Starlink. Probably will cancel spectrum

FSD driving will need less latency if gps used to avoid crashes or alarm impending crash. Airplanes have TCAS to warn of approaching aircraft with quick dive, climb, left, right.

Bottom line: cable / fiber is better. Of course wasn't Starlink designed for areas that don't have either?

I live in a small town and currently have cable but would love to have Starlink. Maybe im a rebel. Maybe i have a perverse desire to support Elon Musk by giving him my business. Who knows? Your points are well-taken, though.

As you mentioned in the video the only downside for me is when the sky is overcloud, besides that, regarding Elon, anyone who spend his money trying to maintain free speech deserves a hand…

I guess you lost me on this one. I am not fortunate (or likely am, imho) enough to live in an area with your internet resources. Eastern Washington, semi-rural. Plenty of weather here, so has been no real issue. Before Starlink, years of 5-10 mb with a wireless service that we were lucky to have. I hate the high cost, but absolutely no complaints with Starlink service.

Yes. Majority of people do not need. The people that do, know they do.

I recently got the Starlink canned response, "Everything is working as expected." This was after I reported several nights of sub-1Mbps performance. They recently removed four weeks of firmware updates for my Gen 3 system, dialing back to a firmware from January. The system is much more stable. I'm still a bit peeved about the response that 0.7Mbps is "as expected."

I live on an Iland in the Bahamas. We have had great coverage during storms. Yet we lose power regularly during these events so its not a huge problem. Starlink is really the most reliable. Also I sent a message via the app about speeds and attached a screen shot. Ironically within an hour(maybe less) the problem was resolved and I never made a call.

After Lahaina fire in maui, we lost power, cellular, and of course land based internet. Just like with 9/11 iridium satellites saved the day, Starlink saved the day for Lahaina with satellite based internet. People without satellite based internet had no internet for a month. Lahaina had no power for a week. Luckily I had solar and powerwall battery but you can power starlink with your car 12 volt plug with a $20 inverter.

All great points we have an off grid place on the Big Island, same type of deal, very thankful for Starling, by the way very glad you are ok after the fires..... Huge waves today by the way, Hilo Bay has close to 14' swells coming right to the Bay reef..... Banyans getting a wild north east swell about 11'......... What's funny to me, is for YEARS satellite internet has basically been god awful in the industry. it was basically thought it couldn't get good, and "beaming" the signal into space is why it's such dog water. it was basically the option you'd choose if you literally couldn't get internet any other way to you house. Then Elon comes along and just proves everybody wrong. I don't doubt these types of technology are costly to setup and maintain...i'm just sayin it's more likely companies are more interested in just taking your money knowing you don't "have a choice" so they don't care to offer a good product. $5 says in the next few years other satellite companies are going to be on the same level. it's not the first time a company "set the standard" and forced others to follow in order to stay competitive, and it certainly won't be the last.

Because you have one more reason why you should buy it, I will give one more reason not to buy... More speed for us that we have Starlink.😂😂😂😂😂😂
