A year ago we bought and installed a Starlink “In Motion” version setup on our motorhome. We traveled from SoCal to Illinois to SD to CO to Az and back to SoCal and never lost signal. We’re very pleased. For those not familiar with the “In Motion” version, this antenna is mounted flat (with slight tilt to let water (snow) run off), stationary on the motorhome roof with no motor. It has a 170 degree horizon. All I needed do was to avoid trees. I’m sold!

Like a previous post elsewhere in this video comment section, we use Starlink on our RV. We are heading down to the Keys this weekend for a week and will be working out of our rig. We have the Gen 2 and I recently bought a Flagpole Buddy to mount it on our Class A rear ladder. I would LOVE to upgrade to the Gen 4, but it would require a new Flagpole mount and that's not something I would want to do right now. Love your videos on Starlink!

I live on top a mountain in Colorado with a very clear view of the sky and my speeds go up and down like a yo yo all the time. I will try in the future to factory reset my unit to see if it changes anything, (your suggestion some months ago). If it does speed things up I will report back in. My other question is if I went with the fixed address to keep the cost at $120/month can I pause or technically cancel during the winter months we are not using it at the rural cabin we would be using it at. If they're buying back units that aren't in use for $200 and selling them at a $200 discount, that means their effective cost for them is $400. The implication is that $400 is considerably less than their cost for a new unit. In the early days, it was rumored that cost for Gen 1 was several times the $500-600 they sold them for. I wonder what their cost on a Gen 4 is now? I have a Gen 2 at my cabin, where the only other option has been a 3 mbps (down) 500 kbps (up) DSL line from the local telco Co-op. Thankfully, they've run fiber now, and I just got word that it will only be a matter of weeks until they're ready to hook me up. Gigabit symmetrical for $90/month, vs Starlink for $120. Yep, my Starlink service will end up paused once the fiber is connected.

I would also like to see Starlink combine the Residential and Roam plans from 4 plans to 2, Basic at one price and Priority at a slightly higher price.

I have the gen 3, just bought it and dropped HughesNet. Before dropping, the speed test showed 3 mbps. Took it off and installed Starlink and got speeds averaging 300 Mbps. We are only paying $10 more a month than we were with HughesNet and with HughesNet we only got 40gb of data. It’s hard to complain when we don’t have options like fiber and we are in a very remote area and I don’t see fiber ever coming out here. I only waited so long to make the switch due to the price of the equipment, but I much prefer to purchase it than pay in installments. The price is a bit high, no one NEEDS internet. But the price is still very much affordable, especially considering who we had before with terrible speeds, only 40gb of data and the fact we paid for the equipment twice (only owning a single unit) and being threatened to be charged a third time if we didn’t ship the equipment back when I cancelled service.

Question on the Speeds. You said that with the Gen4 they are considerably faster but, are the speeds consistent? Is it reliable enough to stay at speeds and not drop to under lest say 100mbps (just a low number I am guessing)? Also how is the latency with the new Gen4? Can you game on it within reason? I am really thinking hard about buying one of the refurb systems at the discounted price but am concerned about consistency in the speeds & latency.

To consider returning I would need _consistent_ high speeds, lower cost for the equipment and $50 a month. Not sure I would give up my currently unused square automatic aligning dish for the newer generations. (I wonder if those new dishes even have the auto heating feature to melt away snow and ice.) It seems the higher speeds are based on which generation of satellite happens to be cruising by and not the generation of dish on your roof.

I have had Starlink for over 2 years. I'm not cancelling anytime soon but if there was a reason to cancel it would be consistency especially in latency. Playing games online especially shooters is fine for the most part and then there's the inconsistency at night time or at peak times during the weekend when most people are at home and playing where the ping drops out and is unplayable for shooters. It's improving and getting there but we aren't quite there yet where you don't have to worry about it. I have the original round dish and I was seeing speeds of 400 mbps + when I 1st got it but latency was worse then too. Just give me some consistency and I will be a customer for life.

If starlink can match or beat that then I'll be all in. If I can get a ping of sub 10 almost all the time then I'll sacrifice bandwith but I wont sacrifice ping for bandwidth.

I have a Gen 2 roaming/RV package. Currently monthly price is $150 with "best effort" service. They advertise it as 'unlimited' which conflicts with 'best effort'. For the extra $30 a month for roaming I would expect to get tier one service just like the residential units. Quite honestly I don't see or agree with their 'roaming' profile going forward as the impact to the network regardless of geographic region would not only negligible but temporary at best. Yeah, $150 a month I would consider considering my residential cable is $60 un-throttled with 200+ down / 20+ up and under 20ms ping. A price of $100 a month to me would be more reasonable.

I don't use the Starlink WiFi as I have my own router and mesh network. If the new antenna is good then why not make a retro kit? I think it’s a pretty great product. The install could be a little easier if they didn’t have those proprietary cable ends to go through the wall, but otherwise the dish aim’s itself. What could be easier? For me, 100 mbps would be more than enough. Speeds are going up, maybe I should share with the neighbors and have them split the bill with me because $120 a month is a bit much. Where I live the choices are Star Link, Hughes net (which might as well be dial up) and no internet at all. So again, the choices are internet or no internet, and internet = Starlink. Rather than talk to those neighbors or have anything to do with them I would rather have the price lowered. $80 would work well for me.
