I love when you geek out on the tech stuff, because I do too having 20 years in IT as well. Not that I will ever have an Internet set up like you have but you never know. Just a hint on thread locker. I have used silicone sealant for thread locker in the past and have had great luck with it. I kept a 1972 Triumph Bonneville from rattling bolts loose for 20 or so years so I think I can recommend it with confidence. One nice things about using it for that purpose is that the bolt will come off with regular tools and with the silicone in the threads it will work for a few times. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

I'll tell you what... you always nail it when you cover this subject. Loved it.

Wow, just wow! That was a great explanation, Chad, and it looks like a fantastic setup. SD-WAN was relatively in its infancy when I retired at the end of 2017, and that combination of Starlink and the Peplink router looks amazing. I do love how, after all that high tech in the WAN, you connect it to a NetGear switch for the wired network inside your RV. Go NetGear!

Mobile Must Have is great. I have Starlink Gen 3, Peplink MAX Transit Duo Pro with AT&T, T-Mobile, and FusionSIM. I was using Pepwave MAX BR1 Pro 5G x62 but wanted to try FusionSIM. The BR2 wasn’t in my budget so I went with the Transit.

Chad, we’ve had the HP dish and M Plan from Mobile Must Have for about 6 weeks and love it. We are on the road full time and my wife is software application instructor for a DC law firm. So we need a very solid internet connection. The campground we at now is very heavily wooded and was kind of tricky to get into our spot because the many trees here. Our RV is totally covered. My wife is giving a class via zoom and I’m watching KZread video on my iPad while raining very heavily. Our cell phones have no service, which is through AT&T. There is only one tower about 10 miles away as crow flies and it is a T Mobile tower. All I know is this is a total game changer for us. Keep up the good work! I really enjoy your videos!

My Starlink Gen 3 is mounted to my articulated antennae mount on my RV, I used/have my crank handle to rotate my satellite from inside.

We like the ability to move the Antenna. We stay where trees can be an issue with no cell service. With a 150' cable we can most of the time find a location for antenna where as if it was on top of home (RV) no satelite reception might be available.

I just purchased a refurbished gen 2 online @ starlink for use in the Philippines and it delivered in a week. So easy my girlfriend set it up. $244 usd delivered $49 usd per month. Shout out to starlink for understanding economic situations in countries like the Philippines still high for the average Filipino but anything helps

I run multiple cables and 210 power into my RV though Slide-out Gaskets!

We go full time in a few weeks. I just picked up a Peplink Max BR2 Pro 5G because it will use the MMH M-Series FusionSIM. I’m adding to that my Gen2 Starlink and a Project Genesis hotspot for redundancy and resiliency. We’re hoping those options will keep us well connected on the road.

That in motion use for atleast gen3 standard is actually available, though you need to turn it on in your account and will take 15mins to take affect and $2 per GB and you will be continuously billed liked that until your deactivate it which again will take 15mins to take affect fyi.

We use gen 2 in motion. Mounted to ladder, but we have a sloped roof fifth wheel so it's never higher then anything else in roof. Problem with High performance is locked with too expensive of a monthly subscription. Very comprehensive review. Thank you.

Currently my Starlink is converted to 12VDC and connected to a Unifi Dream Machine router with an additional access point in the front compartment so we can use while driving. Our trip from east coast to Yellowstone and back, it was very helpful to have reliable service both in the truck as well as the RV. I converted it to 12 volt because I wanted to run as few things through our Victron 3000 Multiplus II as possible for keeping batteries topped off during remote storage. There's a great kit online for those interested in using a 12 volt POE injector kit.

The black piece is a cord relief - they are meant to take the strain and keep a cord from pulling through (look at older power tools and you'll see they used to be super common).

No. We only use plans that we can put in our peplink. That one appears to lock you to their hardware.

I used mobile must have for AT&T data a few years ago and they ended up getting caught selling plans they weren’t suppose to sell. My $500 modem got blacklisted from AT&T and they left me hanging with the paperweight. So I just can’t bring myself to pay Mobile Must Have for anything. Perhaps you could offer some alternative options for purchasing this stuff.

Sometimes when you coil a wire it becomes an AM-style radio receiver and picks up interference, radio signals, and private communication devices. Have you had any interference issues with that big coil of wire particularly in cables with less insulation and no ground? Sometimes the way around the coil issues is to wrap it elbow to hand and with variations in the loop length of each wrap, then strap it in the middle so that you don't have a round looping coil.

No issues that I'm aware of. It was only about 9 loops and all shielded twisted pairs.

Chad if you had to choose would you install the dish in the front, rear or center of the roof knowing what you know about the possible tree coverage. For pull thru sites. Having the dish at the end, it might help to be able to position RV so the dish could be on the clear side of the tree coverage.

Do you use or see the need of using some kind of VPN for security reasons and if so, do you have a particular preference or recommendation? Is it always necessary to set up the Starlink if you have Internet via cell phone providers? For instance, if you get to a campground and you have trees over your rig, don’t bother setting up the Starlink just utilize the cell phone Internet? Here in the next year I’m also looking at such redundancy so this video comes in handy. Thank you for the content! BTW nice Indian, getting a Challenger next month! 👍🏻

I feel I’d be internet rich and wallet poor if we bought all that. Starlink Gen 2 flat mounted on our Sprinter Van and TMo tethering as a back up. But we spend most of our time out west. Thanks for the video. 😊 What’s the power consumption difference between the two?

Can you link a version 2 or 3 to a High performance? What I mean is, if you have the new mobile antenna and it is tree covered, can you use a gen 2 or 3 dish on the ground?

Re: Obstruction, how about hooking up the portable antenna through an AB switch so you could set it out on the ground while in obstructed sites?

The trouble is, you can't swap equipment on a single plan. Each device needs its own plan, which is a bummer. Because what you described would be great!

Ouch on the window, that's a bummer. My setup is very similar to yours. I'm running a Max transit pro right now with one e-sim, one regular sim and starlink. Like you im also running a netgear switch not sure which one you have but mine is a managed switch, the systems enginenerd in me wont let me run a passive switch and not have subnets for devices, computers etc. Performance wise it it looks like the "high performance dish" is not really any different from the gen2 with the standard roam plan. For us in motion is not that important so for me its not at all worth the cost. My better half does sometimes work while we travel on her laptop but its rare and the hot spot built into our GMC gets the job done there. I am considering upgrading to the Max BR2 at some point, looks like the cost has come down enough to make it a viable option. For Starlink I hacked the cable and installed a weatherproof Neutrik "ethercon" ethernet port on the wall under where my equipment is so i can set mine up 100% from ground level. Not sure this is possible or how difficult it might be on a Grand Design based on how the walls are built but on my DRV (built like a sticks and bricks on the walls) I was able to snake a cable thru the wall from the router to the jack pretty easy. Setup is as simple as place the dish where i want it either on the ground with the ground mount or i mount mine on a flagpole buddy off the ladder and plug in the matching weatherproof connector i have on the dish side into the jack and im done. I never have to hop on the roof to do anything unless i want to put the dish up at the front of the RV on on the roof which i have done at smaller sites to get into clearer sky.

I just completed a trip to Smokemont campground in the national park that is just above Cherokee NC. Near your home base, I think. There is no cellular signal that I know of up there. I took my StarLink gen 2 antenna off my house and tried it out in the NP, with poor results. There was only a north-south band of open sky at my location and it was marginal at best. There is an area at one end of Loop F in the campground that may work better. My experience is that is that if anything more than the southern horizon is obscured by trees, you're out of luck. If you get a chance, go up there if your RV length allows. I would be interested in your results. I was not impressed with your obstruction map under the small tree.

Hi! I came across your channel, and I am hoping you can answer a question for me. We purchased a pre-owned Class A that came with a lot of upgrades, including antennas and Pepwave MAX router. The trouble is, neither my husband or I are super IT savvy. Do you know of a company (or person) that offers IT Support for Full Time RV owners? I would love to find someone who can help us go through all the pieces we have, and help us make the most of them. Right now, we're still using our MiFi Hotspots, and I know that the Pepwave can handle the Sim cards. Unfortunately, the videos on Peplink's support page are geared towards people who understand the equipment way better than I do. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

What are you finding for your typical upload speeds? I am a traveling drone pilot and I send about 100 gigs a day if not more.

2 sec and less dropouts won't effect zoom or streaming video or gaming. Our gen 2 drops out quite often for less then 2 sec and never issue with usage

Dude go buy a nonmetallic cord grip. HD has them for $3. That black ace is the place grip is 💯 going to fail and let water in. It’s also going to smash your internal wires in that cable. Not being able to move the dish is a killer unless you’re in the desert. Cheers

The trouble with a cord grip is the starlink end won't fit through it. I needed something to clamp the wire. I'm pretty sure it's just twisted pairs in there so I might cut the cable and use my RJ45 passthru from the old antenna.

@@ChangingLanes 💯 it’ll fit through a 3/4” grip and still seal the cable. Can also loosen should you need to pull your cable in and out as needed in a pinch. Eaton makes all kinds of sizes. Just thought. Nice seeing doing the “how I did it” videos again. Take care buddy

Yes, another cool video as others have said, and thorough at that. And wow, you are the RV gadget guy. But what is your monthly cost to stay connected - seriously? And your up-front equipment costs must be simply astounding. We are full time RVers traveling the US for the next 2 years, but cannot think of why we would need this reduntantly redundant system - unless I was working from the road full time - maybe. And we have a KZread channel to keep our friends and family up to date, but we wait till we get set up somewhere so we don't miss the scenery. We use Starlink and Verizon for $250 a month, and I think we might ditch the Verizon plan at $100 because we just don't use it much. Again, cool video, but the cash us mere mortals would have invested for this system and the ongoing monthly fees would be prohibitive. You should publish a video where y'all take a week off from tech and solar, and try disconnecting while old school camping (as much as can be done in a 40+ft 5th wheel). That might be interesting. Again, cool (interesting) video.

Its complicated but ill try to give you the cliff notes on how speedfusion works for resiliency. The peplink router in your RV is connecting to a peplink speedfusion server over a vpn tunnel. Communication between the speedfusion server and your router is being sent over multiple connections, basically redundant packets being sent across each of your wan connections between you and the speedfusion server ( in my case 1 starlink and 2 LTE). As far as teams or zoom are concerned your endpoint is the speedfusion server that peplink owns, what happens between your pc and peplink server is unknown to the apps and they don't care as long as the packets get there. I use this setup every day for teams calls, SSH, RDP and all kinds of other stuff while i'm working. My wife spends 70% of her workday on calls using a Cisco voip based phone system and we both have zero issues with dropped calls or broken up audio or video. If you need a hardened setup for work this system works very well and its really easy for anyone to setup. You just need diverse connections and be willing to pay for that.

Yes.. the router takes care of splitting the connection across multiple WAN links and putting them back together on the other end (peplink). To your computer, it just looks like a single connection.

Judging just by the thumbnail for your video, my Starlink got torn off the mask that was mounted to the roof of my trailer in a windstorm on the Oregon coast something that Starlink says is not possible and it wasn’t even that windy hit the ground and destroyed it although I’ve disassembled what was left of it and I believe the ad is still good, but it did damage the cord And system. So I’m curious as to see what happened to yours base purely on the thumbnail. I will tell you that that bonded together mast is not as strong as Starlink implies.

Ours was just sitting on the roof (on it's stand). I was able to set it right back on the roof and it worked fine. But I did move it to the ground the next day.

Any suggestions on a source to install the equipment ?
