Iron Man Hulkbuster Cosplay #7 | Hands | James Bruton

Ғылым және технология

This is part 7 of my Iron Man Hulkbuster inspired giant stilt suit, this week I'm working on starting the mechantronic hands for the suit, then working my way up the arms.
In this series, I build a complete Iron Man Hulkbuster cosplay with animatronics and mechatronics with a step-by-step guide to cover everything you’ll need to build your very own suit. From 3D printing the parts to installing the mechanics that make this whole suit wearable and actually able to walk around.

    Are you considering putting a large repulser in the arm? Maybe like the size of the arc reactor in the normal suit. You could program it to the other trigger button on the joy stick.

    Great videos. Have you thought of using cables for greater finger mobility in the hand similar to your alien xenomorph hand rather than the joystick and then using finger switch combinations for your hand to provide the special effect/weapon capabilities. The cables would mimic more of the muscle/tendon function of the human hand.

    Oh my, Grandma, what big hands you have!! All the better for punching you in your face..., dear!! :D Have you thought of adding some wire down the length of the fingers to add some extra rigidity and extend their life? Also, if you wanted to go smaller and lighter with the pull wires, check out fishing line, that stuff is supposed to be pretty strong. If you don't need it to push the fingers back out to fully extended length, you could then add springs or encased ones (to look like gas struts) to the back of each finger for a more mechanical look, therefore returning them to their normal position. Everything is looking good so far, keep up the great work. :)

  • @EnglishBacon96

    Wow those hands look amazing. Nice idea using th foam to save weight. My only concern is that the fingers are too close together, when you add the extra layers over the fingers it might look a bit off since the sides of the fingers arnt covered and im guessing will not be covered judging by the amount of space in between them. Otherwise that looks fantastic

    Hay, james! Just letting you know, if you use spray paint on that black foam, it's not going to cover very well at all. The holes in the foam won't get covered and it will look like a mixture of dark gray and whatever color paint you were using, i tried painting a 3x4x6 piece for a project i was working on and it still looked bad after 5 coats! Just a heads up

    James had you thought of simply running the nylon cord up to rings in which you attach to your fingers? then using ninja flex along the back side of the fingers to provide the tension to keep the fingers open? this would allow the fingers to open and close either one by one with your actual fingers or link them together to work as one with out the added complexity of motors and controllers and another failure point.

  • @StageZeroMedia

    @StageZeroMedia

    ***** you could also link the finger pull cords together so pulling one piece with say your first finger will open and close the fingers leaving the others to operate the aux switches. Just a thought you got my mind going with this build :)

    Woops i completely forgot it was Tuesday. I liked your mention of the Amiga, that was my fave computer growing up and my dad had thousands of games so I was always trying something new, ah fond memories. Did you play either of those computers you mentioned years ago? Anyway the hands look pretty cool and theirs no need for over complicated mechanics when you have such a simple solution. I'm guessing that once you stick the rest of the decorative pieces on that the foam will be hard to see? I was thinking maybe you could coat the foam with latex or something else smooth and flexible but then again the decorative pieces probably wouldn't have a good surface to stick on. hmm it probably wont matter. Great vid anyway and thanks.

    just wondering James. If you are really good with eletronics. Why not use the keyboard that uses two hand all you is flick your fingers to get a letter. It is hard to discribe this keyboad. If you look it up you will what I mean. I know you dont want finger control. This will just give you loads future add ons. And great show and job on the project.

    Why did you decide to use a joystick to control the entire hand instead of tethering the individual lines to each of your fingers on a glove? I get that you want to have switches for other systems and stuff, but it would be interesting to see a 1:1 feedback of your hand as you are inside the amour.

    this is... well bad, not to be crude but you take some foam and just slap some 3d printed parts on. Why not actually design something in 3d to take the entire mechanical aspect that you need and print that? I mean I'm working on a mk42 and even I do that, so using substanderd (aka foam) and just glueing 3d stuff on it just seems like bad designing. Plus it doesnt look like anything close to the hulkbusters actual design (movie or comic wise)

    Ryan Everson, go fanboy somewere else. *****, it wasnt meant as a bad thing but you're known with 3d modeling and developing, granted you most likely dont use professional 3d modeling tools but still that shouldn't limit you to making second grade stuff like this. You could easily develop a better pair of hands in 3d with the same or even better functionality. Because this comes down to making small plastic strips and glueing them on foam. While you could be making the entire thing out of 3d printed stuff, be it pla or be it abs. for example I made this with only 3dsmax and a makerbot replicator 2 : scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/t31.0-8/1523874_10152690975582502_6016426859996521481_o.jpg So I don't see the entire weight thing seeing that thing weighs about 400 grams.
