Iron Man Hulkbuster Cosplay #7 | Hands | James Bruton
Ғылым және технология
This is part 7 of my Iron Man Hulkbuster inspired giant stilt suit, this week I'm working on starting the mechantronic hands for the suit, then working my way up the arms.
In this series, I build a complete Iron Man Hulkbuster cosplay with animatronics and mechatronics with a step-by-step guide to cover everything you’ll need to build your very own suit. From 3D printing the parts to installing the mechanics that make this whole suit wearable and actually able to walk around.

Former toy designer, current KZread maker and general robotics, electrical and mechanical engineer, I’m a fan of doing it yourself and innovation by trial and error. My channel is where I share some of my useful and not-so-useful inventions, designs and maker advice. Iron Man is my go-to cosplay, and 3D printing can solve most issues - broken bolts, missing parts, world hunger, you name it.

This is going to be brilliant!
Im blown away by the amount of work they must go into each one of these videos. You must be working in this stuff non stop.

***** awesome. I also wanna say that I'm impressed with how quickly these videos come out, considering what they are. When I subbed I assumed they would be much less frequent. You're probably my favorite KZread channel right now.
It honestly stuns me at how creative he can get with these projects
when you first said you were doing a hulkbuster I was doubtful but now I'm watching in awe... the hands are looking really cool already! so is the rest of the suit!
James you are doing really some amazing work. Big Like for you!! Keep it up, I love to see your vids
I didn't really like the concept of this at first, I thought it was going to be clunky and clumsy, but it's looking awesome and I've completely changed my mind about it! Great work James!
2020! Wow look how far James has come in 5 yrs!

Awesome, really like where you're going with this :D
That hand looks pretty awesome already. I originally thought you were going to try actuate each finger individually but I see you circumvented that mess of a problem.

This is an awesome channel keep up the good work :D
You should focus all your activites on this! You should upload just videos about ths build, leavng the others till you finish this! I can't wait to see it moving! Thumbs up if you agreee
hulkbuster awesome
This is awesome. You're awesome. :)
very interesting. im intrigued to see what you do for the hand guard bit.
nice job dude!
Nice finger mechanism.
ur work is amazing! keep it up! its great :)
Sweg dude... Awesome
awesome!!!!!!
Cheap Nylon filament can be found in the form of Strimmer line(aka String Trimmer, Whipper Snipper). Much cheaper than buying filament from a 3D printer reseller.
so cool
I wish you had considered the idea I shared with you about making the hands capable of gestures. But whatever, it's your project not mine, I'm still excited about seeing how it turns out.
Sick
amazing
Awesome man.. keep it up :)
Finally
:D very cool ... i want see then complete :D
Cool
Are you considering putting a large repulser in the arm? Maybe like the size of the arc reactor in the normal suit. You could program it to the other trigger button on the joy stick.
Great videos. Have you thought of using cables for greater finger mobility in the hand similar to your alien xenomorph hand rather than the joystick and then using finger switch combinations for your hand to provide the special effect/weapon capabilities. The cables would mimic more of the muscle/tendon function of the human hand.
Oh my, Grandma, what big hands you have!! All the better for punching you in your face..., dear!! :D Have you thought of adding some wire down the length of the fingers to add some extra rigidity and extend their life? Also, if you wanted to go smaller and lighter with the pull wires, check out fishing line, that stuff is supposed to be pretty strong. If you don't need it to push the fingers back out to fully extended length, you could then add springs or encased ones (to look like gas struts) to the back of each finger for a more mechanical look, therefore returning them to their normal position. Everything is looking good so far, keep up the great work. :)
Maybe you could cut a groove into the palms just under each finger so they can close easier
Imagine high fiving hulk buster, ouch, it would be cool to be able to wear the iron man suit , the iron suit climbs into the hulk buster and can conrol the hulk buster through the ironman suit both mechanicaly and wireless, but its about whats possible and what should stay in your head
Wow those hands look amazing. Nice idea using th foam to save weight. My only concern is that the fingers are too close together, when you add the extra layers over the fingers it might look a bit off since the sides of the fingers arnt covered and im guessing will not be covered judging by the amount of space in between them. Otherwise that looks fantastic
Wow
That nice i lovet
Wow iv recently subscribed cause u and ur creations are amazing how would some 1 start 2 make a suit though ? Measure ments , design ? But still can't wait for more
High five!
Hay, james! Just letting you know, if you use spray paint on that black foam, it's not going to cover very well at all. The holes in the foam won't get covered and it will look like a mixture of dark gray and whatever color paint you were using, i tried painting a 3x4x6 piece for a project i was working on and it still looked bad after 5 coats! Just a heads up
It's really shaping up now, but i would have loved it if the main colour was not red. It would look so cool all black with green and lime green touches and lights . . . But it's only my tastes ^^'
James had you thought of simply running the nylon cord up to rings in which you attach to your fingers? then using ninja flex along the back side of the fingers to provide the tension to keep the fingers open? this would allow the fingers to open and close either one by one with your actual fingers or link them together to work as one with out the added complexity of motors and controllers and another failure point.

***** you could also link the finger pull cords together so pulling one piece with say your first finger will open and close the fingers leaving the others to operate the aux switches. Just a thought you got my mind going with this build :)
Great work as always, ***** ! My wife says "he must have a very patient family." I've got an endless list of projects and rarely any time to work on them. Your videos keep me motivated and moving forward a bit at a time. By the way - my kids love you and your work as well. We all watch your videos on the TV via XBox One. Keep it up!
very interesting. .....second
Woops i completely forgot it was Tuesday. I liked your mention of the Amiga, that was my fave computer growing up and my dad had thousands of games so I was always trying something new, ah fond memories. Did you play either of those computers you mentioned years ago? Anyway the hands look pretty cool and theirs no need for over complicated mechanics when you have such a simple solution. I'm guessing that once you stick the rest of the decorative pieces on that the foam will be hard to see? I was thinking maybe you could coat the foam with latex or something else smooth and flexible but then again the decorative pieces probably wouldn't have a good surface to stick on. hmm it probably wont matter. Great vid anyway and thanks.
That kokos great! 15th comment :)
Damn they look really cool, just a bit oversized though

Lol yea I guess ur right can't wait to see how it turns out!
How much does all that filament you use for all those parts cost? Thats got to be adding up, right?
Are you going to do a video of making a mini-mecha?
I think it will be more rigid with three fingers and a thumb
I'm curious as to what colour the foam will be at the end?
just wondering James. If you are really good with eletronics. Why not use the keyboard that uses two hand all you is flick your fingers to get a letter. It is hard to discribe this keyboad. If you look it up you will what I mean. I know you dont want finger control. This will just give you loads future add ons. And great show and job on the project.
i lovve this so much but can you make it fast plz
Why did you decide to use a joystick to control the entire hand instead of tethering the individual lines to each of your fingers on a glove? I get that you want to have switches for other systems and stuff, but it would be interesting to see a 1:1 feedback of your hand as you are inside the amour.
You must spend a fortune on 3D printing!!
mind telling me what exactlythe black tubes on top of the fingers are called?
did you purposely made all the fingers in the same length?
You've used a really impressive mechanism James...!!! You've gotta make the grip a little bit tighter as the foam will not be very much powerful the hold and lift heavy objects... But I am sure that you are going to come up with a great idea as you always have.... Is there any idea in your mind right now ?? If yes, then reply please.. Your super-fan ~kushal9336
What design of the Hulkbuster are you basing this on?
do u have a masters dagree in electronics?
I see your replying to a lot of people, and I'm a big fan of you and I want your to reply to me as we'll, but the only problem is I don't know what to say, sooo... HI JAMES!!

#THUMBSAREFINGERS
this is... well bad, not to be crude but you take some foam and just slap some 3d printed parts on. Why not actually design something in 3d to take the entire mechanical aspect that you need and print that? I mean I'm working on a mk42 and even I do that, so using substanderd (aka foam) and just glueing 3d stuff on it just seems like bad designing. Plus it doesnt look like anything close to the hulkbusters actual design (movie or comic wise)

Ryan Everson, go fanboy somewere else. *****, it wasnt meant as a bad thing but you're known with 3d modeling and developing, granted you most likely dont use professional 3d modeling tools but still that shouldn't limit you to making second grade stuff like this. You could easily develop a better pair of hands in 3d with the same or even better functionality. Because this comes down to making small plastic strips and glueing them on foam. While you could be making the entire thing out of 3d printed stuff, be it pla or be it abs. for example I made this with only 3dsmax and a makerbot replicator 2 : scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/t31.0-8/1523874_10152690975582502_6016426859996521481_o.jpg So I don't see the entire weight thing seeing that thing weighs about 400 grams.
Isn't all this 3D printing ridiculously expensive?
Make more
can i pl get your 3d printer settings
How much is one pound in American dollars
inpossible
The finger grips look like licrish bites
I like what the arms look like but the shoulder bells look way to big🍑
Haha nooby xelurby
Awesome!
