Iron Man Hulkbuster Cosplay #10 | Shoulder & Upper Arms | James Bruton

Part 10 of my Giant Hulkbuster Suit - working my way up to the shoulders and upper arm mechanism, and some thoughts on the elbow drive.
In this series, I build a complete Iron Man Hulkbuster cosplay with animatronics and mechatronics with a step-by-step guide to cover everything you’ll need to build your very own suit. From 3D printing the parts to installing the mechanics that make this whole suit wearable and actually able to walk around.

Put the joysticks on sliders sort of like a cabinet drawer slider mechanism so that you can get more movement when moving the arms around.

Not sure if if you have thought of this, but since you want your arms to be easily removable from the suit to use a central control panel, you are going to need something solid to hold on to in order to move the arms around. My suggestion is mounting a piece of 1 inch wood dowling with a four or eight way switch mounted on the top to activate with your thumb, and a trigger switch or two. Much like the eight way hat on top of joysticks or a D-Pad found on almost all controllers.

What I think would be a great idea would be to make a sliding mechanism for the joysticks so that they can slide with the hands a you move the arms, making it is to have straight arms at all times, rather than having your arms uncomfortably bent. Jst a thought.

it's alway a good idea, if you cut a screw or a threaded rod, to screw a nut on first and then cut behind it. this will save the thread and if you rasp against the nut it will be nice and clean.

You should put your arms around the back of the wooden pieces like your cradling them in the crook of your elbow. It would be more ergonomic and would help support the upper arms better.

***** What camera do you use? You should be able to just take stills each 10 seconds or so, then compile the footage in any video-editing program really. And you could sore the footage directly to a computer and power the camera vis DC, completely doable. However, you should know your stuff =) Keep up the good work!

At one point it looked like you were making Iron Ape what with those long drooping arms. :D You should try to make a lifesized version of yourself complete with your measurements and moving joints in the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees to help with positioning parts of these large [suit] projects. Those mannequins are only good for putting stuff on, they're pretty useless for anything else. At least you'll have a willing helper on hand for when you decide to make another suit. ;)

the adjustable arm was a good idea. bending your arms inside the hulkbuster arm is however a horrible idea. dont FIX your joystick to the frame of the hulkbuster armor. put it on a rail much like a drawer is on rails. then irrespective of where you rotate or lift your arm you would always be in reach of your joystick.
