@growlingbehemoth - Marriage is so disposable these days it seems.. yes i dont understand why people do it again , and again , and again..maybe it'll work out but most of the time it wont.. its like these people that meet..in the first 6 months of the lust (lots of sex phase of the relationship) they want kids/marriage together/girl usually gets knocked up.. as they never lived with each other yet as both have different living arrangements, once people move in thats when they start seeing the bad side of each other + the bad habits ..such and such.. Woman has kid..Then either they crumble due to not getting on together or do really well and live happy ever after ..as i have seen tho thats not what happens..most break up. Usually woman keeps kid (Custody) He goes it alone.. Both meet new partner.. Repeat As we see on this show..they get married..everythings peaches n cream during the honeymoon..most times for em..but once they live together..thats when the cracks start.. This show should be a reflection in real life for people.. but such is life..world keeps spinning

Pretending to be nice is the key to bigger payoffs. People who act good, even believe they are good, and get into positions of power, they can really wreck society.

That's exactly right, though there are people who really were born bad, they're the exception not the rule. These people tend to come in a spectrum and on the higher end they could be very tough opponents in business and to top it off, they have a tendecy to accumulate up higher in the hierarchies of society. you'll eventually have to inoculate yourself to their ways and strategies to counter their insidious scheming much in the same way you handled the contractor. but the harder part is not becoming like them. "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you."

It's quite similar when it comes to knowing things, if we assume we know the truth we tend to bloat our ego and make excuses for our ignorance, but if we assume we're ignorant from the get go, we will always strive to get closer to the truth and our ego won't cause as much havoc.

Came' here after the Purism phone video. Self-checking is a pretty good way to put it because everyone gets carried away or impulsive at times. Like, it's always hard to say that any good deed isn't for some sort of selfish reason even if it's mere personal satisfaction. But from what it seems like, most people do that automatically. Like, maybe they'll slip up every so often, but try to correct it. Never self-correcting is more of a trait of some narcissistic personality disorder or something where they are so full of themselves that they believe they can do no wrong. So what happens is those sorts of people never really have any growth. But people who are into self-improvement, which is the majority to different levels, are also more likely to self-reflect in general. But there is a problem with self-reflection too: It can turn into a unhealthy perfectionism. People can become so anxious about messing up that it messes with them. Thus a balance of sorts needs to be struck so they don't drive themselves crazy. It's a pretty complex topic overall.

I’ve had similar thoughts for a long time. You’ll see people justify what they do coming from a place of “I’m not the bad guy here!”, which is why in general I don’t consider people to be “good” people (or “bad” ones for that matter). It also helps to not vilify “the other side” too and treat them as irredeemable, if you want to convince them that there’s a better way(!)

While I am not Louis, I was abused as a child by an alcoholic father, and had a very manipulative mother. My mother is possibly a narcissist, but I don't claim to be able to determine that to be the case. I have just seen & experienced very similar experiences to the descriptions of a narcissist. So there was a lot of emotional abuse as well. For me, one of the biggest things that assited in my recovery & ability to be successful professionally & personally was, the people outside of my family that I interacted with along the way. There were a handful of individuals over the years that have had a tremendous impact upon me at different points when I was growing up. So inspite of my home life, I was able to learn what it meant to grow in to be a good man. My experiences with them were each unique, but all incredibly invaluable to the man I grew up to be. Remove just one of them, and I would be a much different person then I am today. Only some of them knew about my abuse, and home life. So most of them had a very valuable impact without knowing it. So keep that in mind as you interact with children. Your example can be highly impactful on someone who desperately needs it, and you may not even know it. Sometimes you can have this impact on other adults as well. As I never consider it to late to make a positive & healthy change in life. We just need to remain open to the possibility of the need for personal growth. That to me had to be the #1 thing that had the biggest impact upon my development. Not that I didn't struggle, or at times wander down the wrong path. But the examples they set forth for me always guided me back on course. I will always be grateful for having met them, and love each one of them deeply.

That is VERY good advice that a lot of people forget. We all do small and seemingly insignificant bad things every day. Evil acts grow from doing so many small little things that a person become trapped into a pattern. Bad choices get justified as acceptable because they were so similar to yesterdays choices. The person doesn't notice the tread towards evil until they are trapped by their own rationalization into thinking it's ok.

AN IDEA - If you were to publish (on line) a list of hearings you either cannot attend or afford to go to AND solicit some calls from like-minded and qualified (in your opinion) repair shops in the state or area to go and testify and attend the hearings. IN ADDITION you may wish to document your talking points and ideas on this type of legislation and email it to those you feel fit the bill. Also, you may wish to get in touch with a good writer (and you probably know some) to craft those points and ideas into a form that could become a pamphlet or letter (snail mail and hand-out) that you can send to those volunteers and also give out copies to your and their customers in the shop or in returned shipments that are repaired. I wish more people would understand what restrictive legislation could do to their pocketbooks and choices. They also need to understand what their apathy and lack of active participation will cost them when they can write and call their legislators. From what I have seen since I started watching you materials my opinion is you are one of the few who know the subject well enough to explain how "Authorized. Service ONLY" will affect everyone if it is legislated into being. Compare REAL prices of parts and expertise in fixing stuff as opposed to only using the limited list of parts and services the corporations offer to the consumers; detriment. And if you can go this far, remind the reader to use their own words, not yours, to express their concerns.

Louis, I enjoyed this video. Here's what I think.... (I know you don't claim to be a Christian necessarily. Not trying to convert ya, but I wouldn't turn you down at least.... part of this is a personal rant of mine.) 1. *You are spot-on,* with knowing that we are all (me especially) of evil nature by default, and that we should consider checking ourselves. It's a sign of a person who is genuine.... and dare I say, you've got salvation step 1 and 3: that we're all evil, and that we have to fight our evil human nature/keep it in check. Some things are universal. What I want you to take away from this is... you're doing the right thing when you check yourself. Don't beat up on yourself or torture your own mind, at least. I know my own mind and self-doubt is my worst enemy, and squashed many of my own business ventures. I've become way more confident after watching your videos, excited, and inspired on what I believe I can do... and... I respect your skill, experiences, and you as a person. 2. Now my rant.... I totally understand why non-Christians/undecideds have formed their opinion, based on *people* or a-holes who are pretenders, who exude a false perfection every Sunday, but will berate their waitress who makes $3/hour at a fine dining restaurant, then not tip because "God told me to." (which.... is utter nonsense - we're called to be generous in our teachings). The problem is, Christians need to understand, a non-Christian is only able to see the world in front of them - and that isn't their fault either.... those who wear the Jesus t-shirt doesn't necessarily reflect the views and opinions of the deity.... and honestly they should... and that keeps people from being able to recognize the spiritual things that can't be seen by the human eye. I believe we're all born with physical eyes, and another set of eyes/senses that deal with spiritual things... The second eyes/sense over time becomes de-sensitized, when bad things are done to us/happen to us/witnessed by us.... That results in an inability to recognize spiritual things, or recognized people who are spiritually distraught/in a bad mental place... Those who have re-opened "eyes" might be more sensitive to recognize spiritual things, and are able to recognize enough to do something little for that distraught person, which makes their day perfect, right on time... sometimes saving a life. 3. *You are exactly right.* When one considers themselves infallible, they become capable of doing more evil things to others. Take it from someone that went to a Bible/seminary school for a year...and realized pastoral ministry wasn't for me (my heart couldn't take seeing the evils that happen in/to families - it's really gut wrenching to go to the homes of one's parishioners/flock, and see what people go through).... Metaphysically, a real pastor "called to service," has the same burden but shares it with the creator, so it's not unbearable. It is a position of power over people, mentally speaking, but at the same time, if the position is NOT a burden that causes one to soften up their responses/treatment of others, then IMHO, those who only hold the title and lack this experience.... are likely not for real....

@@ccgb92 I see life as a way for us spirit beings to be able to gain experience, and know what love is. So, that said... eh... Life is good. It depends a lot on your perspective. Life is good. Even though I had to see an EF-4 tornado destroy my home, and hometown - including seeing people hanging in trees dying afterwards, smelling the fires and death after.... then an EF-5 tornado the very next month. The bright part of that is my home stood, although destroyed. Every single other house on my block was flattened. I could/should be dead, by all accounts. My brother that morning decided he was no longer an atheist. Another win.

Exactly Louis. This is my jam! It's like the governments need to adhere to the "checks and balances" idea, that keep the government honest , in theory anyway lol. You literally check yourself all the time and you balance yourself out all the time. That is the idea. That is our lot in life,in the best case scenario. I've always lived in this way, recognizing the "evil", or the negative side in myself. Im fully aware that i need to check with myself all the time to make sure im actually doing things in a fair manner. It takes a LOT of work to really hold yourself accountable like that. But the upside is that you actually know yourself, you know who you are and why you react or think in a certain way. I would say, it makes you a fully developed person, warts and all. But remember, most of society around you will NOT think like this, so it will be a lonely existence in a way. Mostly you will find people who will just give in to every nasty impulse, they will gladly find the lowest point in the fence to jump over at ( a Finnish way of saying it). And yes,its easy to become the "bad guy", you just let go. Piece of shit, its easy to become that.Maybe i like the fight of becoming the " good " guy. You're a stand up guy,Louis. Notice ,i didn't say good :D See what i did there, haha Nice to see there are others out there. THIS gives me little hope when it comes to this ol' world. EDIT : Yeah man, treat that lady,Erica, well. Good women like that are getting thin on the ground. If a woman believes in what you do, you can not only move a mountain but change a society. Yeah,im an eternal optimist :D

"But remember, most of society around you will NOT think like this, so it will be a lonely existence in a way." It won't be a lonely existence. It will be a tortured existence. Those who do not agree will lash out at you for living a good life. Being forthright & honest creates a contrast that highlights the bad people for who they are. They do not like this, and will hate you for it. It prevents the wolves from being able to wear the sheep's clothing. I much prefer to live the tortured existence, than to selfishly prey on others.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate how you think and share your thoughts with us.. As Solzhenitsyn said: "If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?"

You know, I always hated a certain favorite question of job interviews/ psychology courses/ personal growth courses. That question is "who do you say you are?" sometimes it is a variation of that question, but it is always a self-assessed value judgement. The problem with Self-Assessed value judgments , is that the market for that judgement is 1. I can't tell you who I am, Only other people can tell you who I am to them. Self judgement is always flawed because it will simultaneously be too critical and not critical enough. We will downplay the flaws in ourselves that we hate most in others while also downplaying the virtues we like in other but feel we don't live up to. In contrast, we may also play up virtues we see in others that we know we lack. We will even Over-hype flaws that we may not even have in order to seem more humble, or do it for no other reason than to fit in. Many people that love their families will tell others their family sucks just so that they appear just as damaged as other people. The icing on this cake is that we often do not even realize we are doing it. Even those who think they are "realists" have a skewed vision of themselves. These people often refuse to think that a polarized position might be the correct one every so often. They think the center in where the truth is MOST of the time, but wind up acting like it is that way %100 of the time. Good, bad as long as it is where they see the center, it is correct or optimal. They see this as counter to those who try to be optimistic or pessimistic, but just being tied to the center. They think the moral center at the literal center of any argument or situation. Same highway, different gas station. don't assume that this means you can't know who you are. It is indeed a good thing to know what you want, the way you want to get it. But that can never be conveyed in words, only actions. Not assuming you are good is a positive start, but don't assume you are bad either, this can lead to undermining yourself. Just assume that you like the person you are doing business with, then, work your way to a conclusion where both of you win.

Personally, I'm self-aware enough, and also aware of society well enough in relation to good and evil etc. (have been intentionally observing human behavior since I was like 7) to know very clearly what's actually GOOD about me, and what's bad.
