That reminds me of the jar analogy, basically: "Imagine you're holding a jar. In it, you put all your life experiences regardless of them being good or bad. The main issue arrives when you start thinking that you are the contents of the jar, when in fact, you are still holding the jar."

Louis, you should start another channel for vids like this: How To Adult 101. Thank you for teaching other people the simple lesson of how to be kind and simply be a good person. We could use a lot more people with this understanding. In regards to providing value, it's a lesson touched on in Sir Jackie Stewart's (3-time Formula 1 World Champion) autobiography. If you ever get the opportunity, I'm sure you'd love the other insights about life he shares. Things like this and the Right To Repair fight prove that you're no longer a schmuck.

Sure, but the people I know (mostly working class) have to constantly watch out for violent junkies and robbers. Consider today's wages pinned against the cost of living. A lot of us are desperate for money, and the ones at the bottom of the barrel are growing their numbers. Crabs in a bucket. You're lucky if you got a leg up from a decent upbringing that taught you patience, tact, finance.

Bingo. Louis, you've figured out at a relatively young age what many people never get right: Fulfillment comes from helping others, rather than yourself. Making more money is so that you can do more good with it. Being able to live in a secure place, drive a reliable vehicle, is so that you don't have worry about those elements, and so can turn your focus outward to others who need YOU. Self-centered is another way of saying "miserable." Outwardly focused is another way of saying "in balance". "Happiness" is a decision you make to accept what you can't change and keep working on what you can. Being needed, and being ABLE to be of service to those you need you, is the absolute best.

That's when you go 'Hollywood' and try to let your friend see the light. Find him and make it your mission to convert this guy so that he, too, can achieve pure confidence and security. If you want my advice, I would start off by making it clear that you don't care about the business anymore. Sure, there's evil in the world -- too many (your friend likely included) default to narrow-mindedness and hostility to adapt to this evil -- but we can't give up on our friends because they haven't yet made the realization: true good lies in kindness. The human race SURVIVES on COLLABORATION, and it THRIVES on COMPASSION. Gandhi once said "we but mirror the world." If you don't want egocentricity to prevail, don't try to fight apathy with apathy -- fight it with action.

I grew up in and out of foster homes. Both of my parents were poly addicts. Both of which, I haven't seen over a decade - I'm 27. This is a really interesting point. Up until now, my mindset, on confidence and security, has always been about myself, overcoming my challenges in life - powered by my own steam. I was independent at 16. Went to school full time + worked 30+ hours a week, saved for 2 years, paid my way through college with $0 debt (And chose a program that was within my means). Now am working in field that pays well, and I can "say" I'm secure. However, confidence? A constant struggle. Thanks for sharing this video. It's given me a whole new perspective, to think about.

Wooh! That night and day difference when you hear someone say some real-world sensible advice; I'd almost forgotten what it sounded like. More in life has to do with the journey you take, than the destination you're heading to. And so often people don't truly grasp the meaning of that till it's too late. Solid job in getting the point across with a way that's relatable to people, some of the most important lessons in life also happen to be the most difficult to express in a meaningful way.

I enjoy your tech videos. But I have to say I enjoy these videos more. You have the skill of taking a complex personal issue and shinning light on it in a meaningful, relatable and unique way. I find your reflections on such issues to be closer to the truth than most self help gurus. Thank you.

Confidence. Is believing in your self, and being sure of your self. To have value and character as a human being. To walk with purpose. To be secure with your own personality. And to have Respect for yourself. And to be yourself. Unconditionally.

And they all will turn their backs on u when u need help the most. Try try again. Never give up! Maybe some fkn day a person will lend a hand to u. This is hell... This is so hard to feel left out every time. Your whole life u're being left out by everyone.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic, Louis - very good insights. I am tempted to believe, having spent a good deal of time helping others in my life that that is ultimately the point of life: providing value to and helping other people when they are in need.

My friend works 2 jobs and loves to spend time with me but I feel guilty taking her away from her family so instead I go over let her clean while I cook for her and her family and make food for the whole week as we chit chat , cooking is nothing to me but she can't cook and her and the family love my cooking so it works and in return she has always helped me out with life stuff.
