I left for a day... AND CAME HOME TO THIS! Vlog 221

FIXING STUFF IN THE SHEEP BARN.
I finally got a day off the farm, to attend a board meeting. Mark was left in charge, and apparently, he had a day similar to one of mine.
Meaning, something broke.
Unfortunately, it was due to me.
Just when I thought that was the only issue, I was quickly proved wrong when I went to open our overhead door.
Let's just say, I'm glad I'm not scared of heights...
#sheep #sheepbarn #fixingequipment
THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!!
I FINALLY HAVE MERCH!

    I’d let it go, because he was taking on your chores along with his own regular responsibilities. And no one will ever do it the way you would. If everyone survived and he took care of all the major issues, that’s a win-win.

    Look up bird spikes, you can mount them on ledges and it prevents the birds from landing and creating nests, Saves you from having to keep checking up on it as well :)

    Treasure Trovel 2 days ago (edited) I would get a number of rubber snakes to put on all the ledges to scare the birds. You will have to move them around periodically to keep the birds spooked. There is also a gadget called a Rid a Rat that is a small strobe light that operates for about 6 months on 2 AA batteries. It has two strong magnets for mounting inside the hood of the car to deter rodents from nesting. The strobe light is small enough that I think it would just perturb the local area up at the top of the door (and would not spook the sheep). It would freak the birds out. I purchased the device on Amazon

    Been married 50 years.....I always ask myself, “” Is this the mountain I want to die on?” It almost never is. Kinda puts things into perspective. Hang in there. There will be many other mountains, but it’s hard to remember them for long, because in the total picture, they’re only little hills.

    I have a work-around for the insulation on the milk lines. When we need long, temporary insulation we use pool noodles. They come in a wide range of thicknesses and length. They work great and are relatively cheap this time of year. Even during the summer they are still relatively cheap and a colorful option for decorating as well.

    Sandi when I was first married and was having twins went into pre term labor and was on bed rest, I learned he was a child about his priorities. I had friends from church and they made food and brought it to me. I came after baseball. He was never going to change that part of priorities. He did amazing things after they were born, he helped feed them in the middle of the night, and got up and worked the next day. ( premise, had to be fed every 2 hours for like a month. I just had to learn to appreciate what he did do and let grace cover it 😁... 39 years later that still works, and he has had a lot to cope with. Last year I had a massive heart attack with no symptoms and 6 months later I slipped on tile in the bathroom and broke a leg. I had 5 pins and was in a wheelchair for 4 weeks after I came home... He did an ok job taking care of me. If it was perfect I would have taken a lot longer to be functional. ;)

So after destroying three nests we decided to just build them a house, they actually sat on the telephone lines and watched us build their house, the moment it was up and we stepped away they came to check it out and started gathering nesting material right away. Never had a problem with them since. Pretty smart animals, they pretty much MADE us build a house for them.

    @Martin van der Merwe Thank God. I’m pretty new to the vlog so watching older ones. I just said the same thing about a safety harness and thought I was being way to bossy. Was thinking of deleting it though I realize being a year old vlog Sandi probably would never see it. I will leave it seeing your comment. I hope Sandi read your comment. I was a manager at a mechanic shop with doors like that. If someone did that climb, they would have gotten written up, seriously chewed out, and have to go through safety training again. A second offense would have gotten them fired. I was serious about Safety Protocols as I didn’t want any of my guys hurt. They were my responsibility. Plus the company could have gotten big fines from OSHA. You never want OSHA to show up at your business after an employee has been injured in an accident.

    2020 passive aggressive Sandi would burn Mark on YT since he didn’t do or half-ass’d his barn chores while you were gone, but give him the opportunity to make up for it by building you a enclosure/cover for the barn door mechanism bird nesting issue. You both get content for you channels, fix a recurring bird issue and save a marriage.

    Sandi as to the things on the "To Do List" not getting done. Live in the solution. Focus on fixing the situation then possibly who did or didn't do what. It is so easy and common for us as humans to get caught up in the blame game. Sticking to "I statement" when trying to communicate stuff like "I feel such-and-such when this and that chore isn't done, it really holds up the whole process of what we need to get done around here". You are doing really well. Keep being awesome!

  • @wolfco47

    @wolfco47

    I shall reply in the hopes that makes your comment more noticeable. Although, I do think the type of bird she has the barn would require the spikes that are closer & more dense than traditional pigeon spikes. They work by preventing birds from landing & walking about. If the species in her barn are too small, the normal ones won't work.

  • @jshanline

    @jshanline

    Agreed, sparrow and chickadee sized birds would love pigeon sized spikes cuz they do 1/3 the work for the birds upfront. They just set up shop between the spikes since they don’t generally need to land when they are building nests.

    HAINT BLUE Here in the South we paint our porch ceilings Haint Blue. It keeps evil spirits, BIRDS and bugs away. Scientists believe the color blue matches the sky. This discourages birds from building because they want to be somewhere protected. You have many surfaces up there but it may be a solution. The view from the top of the door is AWESOME. Thank you.

We all do jobs differently......and no-no-no to passive-aggressive.f I find that worse than just outright saying what is on your mind...LOL Sorry....but I'm in the just appreciate-and-thank camp! As far as your bird and nesting problem with the garage door, could you hang something up there that moved...like a mobile or windchime....to discourage the birds, or, do you think they would get used to something moving and go back to their nesting? You and Mark are very inspiring with all your hard work and great attitude!
