MARKETING LAMBS... how many lambs do we sell over an entire year and at what price? Vlog 223
Just another manic Monday, where things don't always go according to plan on a sheep farm...
Weighing market lambs, and calculating just HOW MANY lambs we sold in 2019, how we market lambs, how many we keep back as replacements, and the high and low prices we got for those lambs this year.
#lambs #sheep #economics
THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!!

I Totally agree that LEDs are the way to go. Most are low profile so you can mount them above the garage door track on a 2x4s screwed to the rafters. Suggest extension cords until you dial-in your permanent locations, then wire them correctly with MC back to a switch.

Hard YES! ON LAMB STAMPEDE VIDEO'S.I make mental notes on which episodes have the most entertaining lamb stampedes so I can rewatch them when I need a pick me up, or I'm bored by anything else, or just plain crankypated. Thank you Sandi for sharing pure joy! 💖. Just one more reason why we love you.
So when you are fattening lambs or steers it takes a portion of the daily feed ration to keep the animal alive. Therefore if you can get the animal to market sooner you save money to get it to market.. You are managing the herd well as well as teaching non farm folks farm life. Huge thank you!!

Hi again SANDI A day at a time! One task at a time too. From start to finish so you don't forget and learn the hard way as you say! Really helps to do it that way and adjust time if you have a couple things going on to finish. Don't be so hard on yourself either Sandi! You work hard and do a great job. Even make a list or two and check each task off as you finish. Then overlook your day and list to see if all is good. Another great day with the sheep you love and the business meant for you. I find the economics fascinating personally. I have limited agriculture understanding (grew up just outside a city) and personally enjoy finance (my college major) so I really appreciate you talking numbers in your videos. I think its useful data for viewers who want to try and see the bigger operation picture!

One thing that might help with lighting are those shop lights that are tall and stand on a tripod. You could have them handy for when and where you needed them. Easy to move and adjust to the task.

Freeze your nostril-hair cold. Yup, that’s cold. Have never been a fan of squeaky snow, that means it’s cold. Get 48” LED overhead (shop) lights above your handling system, they really put out a lot of light, with very small voltage requirements.
I like your honest review
These details are really good to hear. This is obviously very involved and an around the clock operation seven (7) days a week. Thanks for sharing! 👍
A video about the genetics would be awesome! The pros and cons of different breeds, their temperaments, ect.
Haha! Mark would hate me then. 🤣 I do all my numbers and paper work in 3 places. I have an app on my phone, a folder with info and individual cards for each sheep. 🤣
Thanks for showing the way to weight them. 15 will be ready. Please don’t feel embarrassed in revealing costs, we so appreciate you being up front.

To be honest in Missouri (mid USA) we're really cold. We were like -17 c or 1.4 f. We're going to have a couple days of snow but I don't know the estimated amount. I hope you stay warm!
I agree with sunny, cold but not windy. I'd much rather be a little cold than having worry about rain and wind. Just a reminder that if it's below freezing, the mud is also frozen, and your boots stay clean and (generally) dry.
That was interesting, thanks for sharing it. I lovem to watch the little ones running around and jumping. God Bless.

In 2019 the roof came off. That was right before lambing. A few ewes had miscarriages/ still born lambs. When evaluating ewes to keep and your overall numbers, do you consider the roof/ act of god? That would seem to be a stressful time that was out of your control and the ewes. That’s not something that would normally happen. I’m guessing you shipped 15 lambs to market.
