Weightlifting wrist straps - Learn how to properly use lifting straps from Kevin Weiss of Body Performance personal training.
Hi there, Kevin Weiss from Body Performance personal training and in the last thirty years of being a competitive bodybuilder both on the national and world stage as well as being a competitive powerlifter I've learned a thing or two about what works and what doesn't.
The last thing you want when you're handling a heavy weight whether it be with deadlifts, rows, pull ups, pull downs anything like that where your grip becomes a factor is your grip to slip on you so today I want to show you something I've used over the years and a great product that I have come across that really is going to help you out with that.
So the product that I want to share with you today is the Rip Toned weight lifting strap and I just want to give you a real brief description of how to properly use these.
1. The first thing that you're going to do is you're going to find the loop..
2. Slide the one end through
3. Then slide it onto your hand so that the strap is down your palm you don't want it this way over top... down on your palm and down on your hand like this you don't want it up on your wrist cause that's not going to support it all down onto your hand
4. Cinch it up like this...and that's ready to go
5. Now I'll show you how to wrap it around the barbell to get your best grip possible
6. So your starting position for this is close to the bar with the strap going underneath, do not go over top like this you'll still be able to wrap it around like that but you're not going to get a tight grip.
7. Put it underneath the same way your thumb would go underneath, you can push the strap underneath and then grab it on the other side with your fingers like this and pull it until it is taught.
8. Now that you have it like this it's a simple matter of just flipping it over flipping it over each time you flip it over if you really want to keep it tight which works good is that is you do similar to a motorcycle grip or a motorcycle throttle twist it... bring it around so real simple bring it... pull it... twist it... you're good to go
9. Then you just simply repeat that with the other hand
Simple as that... now I got a good grip that's not going to slip out of my hands at any point in time.
All right so that's all there is to it... real simple product and it's going to make a big difference in any exercises where grip is going to be a factor.
I'm Kevin Weiss from Body Performance personal training have a great day.

Thanks bro. Now those cheeky 12.5kg dumbbells will stop slipping out of my hands when I squat. Subbed!

how will you throw them on the floor after your set?

yeah i've been doing pretty heavy weights, but i've always been skeptical about using straps, but i think it's time to stop caring what others think and just do me, cuz in the end, it's only hindering my progress. I just gotta be careful to not be dependent on it.

Me too, after 4 years of lifting finally have a reason to use one. Last week I just started deadlifting and couldn't lift for the rest of the week because my palms were destroyed.

Thanks for this explanation! I bought a Pair of straps 2 years ago and they sat on a shelf till 5 minutes ago What a difference they make to deadlifts when I made that twist to lock. At my age 77 I want to pay attention to safety while still upping weights.

Great to hear!
Do not forget, when you pull the strap through the loop: do that mirror-inverted for the second hand...in the video theres is one hand wrapped the wrong way around...but the "long part" should always exit between the thump and the index finger

Short, effective, instructional. Bought my first pair today, will be putting it to good use. Thanks
Thanks for the simple and straight forward tutorial! Very helpful
good vid, straight to the point, and importantly works. thx
@RipToned great video, i been working out for a long time without the straps but after watching your video i bought these straps and they work awesome, thanks for the video
Hi Mel, see my reply to Jess below as he asked a similar question. Basically I recommend only using straps when they limit you from using more weight in a set/exercise than you could otherwise if your grip limits it. You will get better muscle targeting effectiveness if you can maximize the amount of weight the target muscle can handle instead of being limited to the amount of weight your grip can handle. Hope this helps clear things up.
I’m new To lifting, I always sort of had an idea about how to use straps but this Video confirmed it! Thanks
Man U made that 100% easier then all the other videos I looked at thank u
gonna help my grip, wasnt utilizing right before, thank you
Straight to the point, no nonsense good advice. Thanks Kevin.
Quick and simple, I’ve never used straps and just starting using my friends and wow what big difference it makes 😅
I never realised the value of using wrist straps before. Many thanks for the information. Must get some when I get back into training.
Thanks I couldn’t figure out how to use these (thinking they were like regular wrist straps) but can’t wait to try them at the gym next time!
Very helpful video on how to use these Wrist Straps. Thanks.
Nice quick and easy great vid bro
Finally a video that is detailed enough! Thanks so much
I was literally looking at your product on Amazon, only fair that I buy those ones now thanks to this great video lol
I'll pass this onto Kevin... glad you found it helpful
thanks for that, quick and brief. I'm just getting started should I be using straps
Just got a pair of these today and was going along with the video. I feel like it'll take a few tries to get the second hand down smoothly, but seems simple enough. I only intend to use them in case my grip has a failure during a set, or seems like it'll fail the next set, but it's better to have that insurance than not. I've definitely had sets fail due to grip, even when using something otherwise very secure like the hookgrip.
Awesome video, I can clearly see the benefits of using wrist straps now.
Just purchased the same exact straps, can't wait for them to come in.
Cool. Thanks. I just bought some straps for the first time. Can't wait for deadlifts tonight. Thanks again for the video tutorial.

Thank you very much for this explanation video! Now I know how to use it properly and execute my rumanian deadlifts the right way :)
Great video! Very informative and concise
This might sound stupid but I bought some straps almost two years ago and had no idea how to use them, for a long time even thought they weren't weight lifting straps and I bought the wrong items, this video made everything clear, thanks bro.
Very helpful. He does show how to put them on both hands at the end.
Simple and informative without ten minutes of bullshit, good job.
Thank you! Using wriststraps have been a big mystery to me
Best video on this subject. Thank you.
Very clear and concise. I never see one before.
Thanks, just did 435 deadlifts thanks to your video. Subbed and liked 💪🏼!
Thanks mate, well help on pulls ups busting out those 3x10 sets
Good info on how to use these. Thanks.
Got these today in the grey camo and the colour already grew on me. Just in time right before I head out to the gym, and it so happens to be Deadlift day as well. Gonna see how these compare to my old straps of similar build and material

Simple and well presented... thank you
Thank you!!! Very well explained 👍🏽
Thank you. Very helpful. Will give it a go!
Thanks for the great instructions coach weiss
Thank you Sir. Simple instructions
Very useful. Thank you!
Great video. The part where you said to have the strap around the part of your hand, rather than wrist, is important. I've used these before, (years ago) but had them around my wrists, where they actually caused strain. I've just ordered a new pair. Hopefully they'll help me with dumbell squats, one arm dumbell rows and, possibly, lat pull-downs. :-)
Good video, straight and to the point, beautiful
Great video for a novice like me. Good explanation and demonstration.
thanks man i had no idea how to use these

Very helpful video thanks for sharing
Thanks this helped big time! MY grip sucks as i age my hand wants to open so i had to try something. ill be trying this tomorrow in the gym for traps {Shrugs}
Wow magical... At the gym and it helped me repped out some more
Thanks for the video! I couldn't figure out how these were supposed to be used and my grip/calluses are definitely what's stopping me from upping the weights
I would like to know if this method is allowed say for instance when I want to do a world record deadlift?I like your explanation simple and to the point.
Thanks for the vid!
Thanks. Needed this video
thanks great video. I knew exactly what to do after watching and i already love the straps.

I have a bad grip from nerve damage in my forearm. I hope these will help because my grip if starting give give out now after 335 deadlift.
I started getting wrist ligament strains from ya inch the straps all the way down to m hands, the ligament at the base of the thumb, so I either put it just above my wrists (which works) or do mix grip
Helpful! Thanks!
Great video
Thanks Kevin
