Hobie Passport 12.0 Fish Finder Installation - Lowrance Hook Reveal 5 - Detailed Fitting Guide

Спорт

In this video i show a detailed step-by-step installation of a Lowrance Hook Reveal 5 fish finder to a Hobie Passport 12.0 kayak. I show how to fit the transducer to the Passport 12 transducer scupper mounting plate and then how to run the wiring through the kayak by using the Hobie Fish Finder Fit Kit for the Passport 12.0. I show you how to fit the Hobie Thru Hull Plug kits for waterproof wire routing through the hull that are included with the fit kit.
I mount the screen display using the Railblaza R-Lock Hook 2 Mount and fit this to the H-Track on the Passport 12.0 using a StarPort HD and TracMount Kit. Finally i wire in a 12V battery with an in-line fuse.
The same process can be used to fit many of the popular fish finders to a Passport 12, providing the transducer will fit in the transducer recess.

I m amazed! Very nice videos and explanation. So the black plate doesn’t block transducers sound waves? Doesn’t have to be directly into the water in order to work properly? I just bought a gobo gb25 that has something like that at the bottom and I m wondering about how to install the transducer

Nice video, im actually looking at getting the hobie passport 12 for my channel (the occasional angler). Few questions. Regarding weight of the kayak how easy is it to get on and off the roof of your car. Now you have had it a while what are your thoughts? And unknown surprises? All my fishing is done in 1-3 hour sessions so I just want something quick easy to get on and off the car and straight into the water

I won’t lie, it’s a bit of a lump to car top solo but it depends on your upper body strength! I use a side load bar to make it easier to load onto a roof rack. The smaller Passport 10.5 is noticeably lighter if you do want something easier to handle off the water. I don’t actually have a Passport 12 myself. My cousin has one and comes out regularly with me. We have had the rudder thumb screw loosen off a couple of times causing the rudder / steering to be ‘off-centre’. We solved this by just wrapping some insulating tape around the position on the push-pull rod where the rudder needed to set. This stops it slipping back or forwards if the screw loosens in use. Other than that all is good 😎

Interested in hearing your thoughts on the kozkazi dorado 2? Might end up picking one up second hand as a first kayak 👍

Hi Rhys, they are a well respected kayak and we’re popular many years ago before the uprising of pedal power. Kaskazi are no longer in production but plenty of good second hand boats out there. Known for their sea handling capabilities so very at home in open coastal conditions even if it gets rough. A few owners complain of the seat being uncomfortable so you may need a decent backrest. As a first kayak you may find it a bit tippy initially as they have quite a narrow beam but they have a low seating position which helps provide good stability in rougher conditions. It won’t take long to find your legs with it and then you’ll realise how stable they can be! Hope this helps 😊

@@CornishKayakAngler I went with the purchase in the end and I can see where the lack of back support may be a niggle for the angler. I won’t put it on the water until June but Could you recommend any good back rests that would suit this style of kayak? Thanks again 👍

I work at a Kayak Store so get to play and rig lots of kayaks for my friends 😎 the Passport 12 is a similar size to the Outback and performs similar on the water in terms of speed and stability, the Outback is just rigged up with lots more features!

fish finder installation for passport 10.5?

This will need a different approach as there is no transducer cavity on the Passport 10.5. You will either need to use a transducer arm over the side of the kayak, or bond the transducer to the inside of the kayak so it ca shoot through the plastic - I have covered this in a previous video if you wanted more info on this.
