Very nice video, diolch yn fawr as they say in Wales. I would love to be back in North Wales visiting the lakes and doing some fishing but I am now in North Carolina which is quite OK. I have access to the sea and the Inter Coastal Waterway. I am just getting back into fishing and I am looking to buy a Hobie Outback. I have a Revolution 13 but I think the Outback will be a better fishing platform. Your fish finder install was very detailed which I found very helpful. I have bookmarked it. Thanks again.

Hi John, thanks for the comment. I was in North Carolina just a few days ago at Outer Banks, Hatteras Island! It was a flying visit of just one day as part of a holiday in Virginia. I would love to return for a longer trip sometime. I managed some Bluefish and Flounder from the surf after a charter trip was cancelled due to the wind. North Carolina looks to have a great variety of fish! The Outback is a very versatile craft and I’m sure it would do you well over there. It’s hard to beat a Revo if you want speed though, but the extra space and stability found on the Outback makes it the better all-rounder for sure.

Great video mate very helpful as always, what do you think of the outback? I’m looking to order either the latest outback or revolution 13 can’t make my mind up!

Hi John, thanks for the comment! That is a very tough question to ask me. I have the Outback and Revolution 16 and I keep switching between which one is my favourite. I really like the Revolution for fishing the stronger tidal waters here in Cornwall and for fishing marks that involve longer journeys to get too (those days when you put in 10+ miles on the water). The Outback is by far the better all-rounder in terms of comfort and usability. Loads of deck space, room in the footwell, better storage for stuff, easier to accessorise etc. Perfectly fine for general coastal conditions. Not much slower than a Revolution 13 at all to be honest, only in choppier conditions that a Revo will start to peg ahead. If you are someone covering distance or fishing more exposed / challenging waters then go for a Revo. If not then Outback. That’s about the most concise way I can put it from my experience with both over the last few years. Whichever you go for, be sure to get in touch with Cornwall Canoes - we can sort you out with either 😀 hope this helps!

I ended up going with the same fish finder, installing on my Hobie Compass this week. Have you flipped the kyak yet with the fish finder on? Interesting to see how it would hold up.

sorry off topic slightly but have been following your great videos, because of your reviews I am looking at getting either perception triumph 13 or a tarpon 120 you liked both on your reviews but which do you think is the better buy ? I am not an angler at the moment but want to sea kayak , any thoughts would be great !

Hi Vince, thanks for the comment. If you are wanting to primarily paddle let’s say 10-20 mile day trips, I would go for the Perception Triumph 13 with a rudder kit fitted. Or better still a RTM Tempo (video review coming soon for that one). If it’s mainly day trips up to 10 miles or so and you want a bit of comfort then the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120 all day long! It’ll still do longer trips, just a touch more effort. You wouldn’t be disappointed with either but the Triumph with rudder fitted makes an excellent touring sit on top. Hope this helps!

Ow much money do you want to spend, that will determine which models you can buy from. They are all about the same the only difference is when you go up in prices you get more features. I am satisfied with my Lowrance 5 Revel for the money but I would buy a Humminbird if I bought another one. I continue to have problems with my Lowrance that I don’t remember having with my last Humminbird.

@@60watergr I would look at the different reviews on KZread for Garman and Lowrance Fish Finders in the price range you are going to spend. For that much money you could buy some very nice Fish Finders. I definitely would look at Side-scan imagery and what ever else you want. Good luck and if you decide on the model you want please let me know. I have the Top Water 106 PDL and it is great but I would buy the Top Water 120 Predator if I bought another one. I have never owned a Hobie Kayak before and my 106 PDL is very easy to reverse and pedal forward.

Thanks! There’s not too much between the two brands to be honest. Both constantly trying to outdo each other in terms of features, build, reliability, warranty offered etc. I filmed this video several months ago and have been using the fish finder regularly since. Coming from a Raymarine fish finder I was a bit unsure how I would find the Lowrance but so far no quibbles and it’s all running as expected. I am yet to own and use a Garmin unit myself but have many friends who do and get on well with them. To be honest, Lowrance, Garmin, Raymarine and Humminbird all have their loyal fans and militant haters! I see good reviews and bad experiences with all of the brands. I wouldn’t have an issue going with any of them to be honest but all I can say is I was happy with my Raymarine Dragonfly 5 Pro and now I’m happier with the Lowrance Elite FS 7 (only because it has better features!). Hopefully that hasn’t confused you further 🤣

does anyone know the estimated cost for this unit....great video guys. Ive been out in my new outback but fishing without electonics could be better. By the wau love these new hobie outbacks

Hi James, in the UK this fish finder unit retails around £900-1000. I’m not sure on the pricing in other countries though. Just check it out on Google and buy from a reputable retailer.

Side scan doesn't work with the way you have the transducer rigged right? It needs to extend below the hull to shoot to the sides.

Yeah a side scan transducer needs to sit proud of the hull to shoot to the sides. I show the installation of a sidescan transducer for this fish finder in the following video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e3-MlZp8aZzYlqw.html

I am curious if your power line also had a yellow wire as well. I only heard you address the red and black.

Hmmm I can’t remember now. If it did, it trimmed it back to the black sheath. Red and black are the only ones needed for a straight 12V supply. Some power cables have a drain wire incorporated so your yellow wire may be that.

Lowrance 9 Pin HDI Skimmer Transducer do you know if this works on this system ?

Hi David, The transducer I show in the video is the 9-pin HDI Skimmer Med/High CHIRP/DownScan transducer supplied with the Elite FS if choosing the HDI transducer option. Hope this helps!

Would nocqua batteries (10 ah) work on these?

You could, but at max current draw of 2A, you would only see approx 5 hours use when using a 10Ah battery. You may get a little more time if you dim the screen to save power but it would probably be best to go for a larger capacity battery to see you through a full day session. You could link up two Nocqua Lithium kits to gain more capacity and run time.

I've been told that my Elite FS 7 is not compatible with Navionics Relief Shading.

It should be compatible with all Navionics Platinum+ charts, which you need to run the relief shading. Can’t think of a reason why one wouldn’t be compatible.
