WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

He was fairly respectful and a lot less condescending than many religious people. I think he is a great example though of the low intelligence level of the bulk of humanity. I like that he thinks he has cracked some secret code regarding what a bunch of names REALLY mean, AND how this proves it's all true. To that I say, if you are telling me that I just need to read the bible to know the truth, but I'm not really going to know it because it's in code, then I think that makes your god an asshole, because shouldn't he just make it easy to understand without combing through a bunch of other ancient documents that are not readily available to know the truth ??

Cognitive dissonance and compartmentalization, mostly. Many religious people have been so deeply indoctrinated into accepting their religion as true with the same level of confidence as that the world is round (most of them agree that the world is round, at least), that it's difficult to step outside of that perspective, and that's also actively discouraged in organized religion. They've just never been taught the skills to critically analyze their own views the way they'd analyze any other views. That's also why you so often hear Christians refute the Quran with reasons that are _just_ as true for the Bible (and vice versa, Muslims do that to the Bible too) without realizing it. The whole thing is built on a foundation of bulletproofing the religious ideas, because without that bulletproofing there'd be no religious people left. Only those religious ideas that indoctrinate that kind of compartmentalization and special pleading have survived. It's basically evolution, in a weird sense! :')

The biggest problem with the bible is that people who believe it don't actually deconstruct it. They don't look at it from an outside perspective. Case in point being this book is a compilation of stories written and told thousands of years ago. Exactly how intelligent were those people at that time. Did those people even know a place like Austrailia even existed let alone the other planets in our solar system or viruses, bacteria, allergic reactions, tectonic plates etc. So how would a group of people describe what they were seeing without the knowledge we have today.

One should open the bible and read the living word of God because when one does so with the right motive (seeking the truth) they will come to know the one and only true living God/Jesus Christ/Holy Spirit. One must be born again to know Jesus Christ (the Living Word). Those who reject the truth (Jesus Christ) have a proud and arrogant mind set to disbelieve the fact that they are a sinner in need of God's Grace and mercy. If a man says he has never done wrong/sinned he is a liar, and the truth is not in him. There is only one who walk the face of the earth and never sinned; God/Jesus Christ himself, the God/man, the Son of God, the Lamb of God, the Prince of Peace, the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings, the Redeemer, Savior of souls.
