“Optima” was the codename for the K5 in the US. K5 and Optima have always been the same car. In Korea has always been the K5.

That makes sense. The 2013 Ford Fusion was a very handsome car, but it's all over the road now and nobody is gonna turn their head towards a Fusion, unlike a Mustang. The K5 will be like that in a few years once it starts to sell.

At least, after 2010. There was the original Optima, then the Lotze, and then the K5 (along with, of course, the K3, K7, and K9).

They're finally bringing these over to the us. Seen this series many years ago in Korea. The Kia's over there are super nice.

If you have a passenger who needs to use the bathroom, make sure you play the Rainy Day sound of nature.

I have had this for a month now as a rental,all I can say is WOOOOW,this car is really amazing,absolutely!!!! Comfortable,great on gas,tons of leg room,1 cubic ft bigger trunk then Camry,and the handling around corners is shockingly great,grips around the corners near me alot better then I thought

Love the car! Just test drove it- The PULL is to remove the wireless charging station- It actually comes out completely! Just incase you don't have a wireless charging phone you can use it for extra storage space. Thank you for the awesome review!

The hate is because real car enthusiasts know what’s under all this cool aesthetics, cheap materials and quality. If you didn’t know a lot of Hyundai’s and kias don’t have reinforcement in the front and a lot of their transmission and engine layouts are outdated and don’t last, like the engine recalls and gdi carbon issue

Ljsw 2016 I was wrong, I didn’t mean layout I meant configuration. They’re using outdated transmission gearing and engine setups. Do some research on what kind of auto transmission and how their 4 cylinders are built and run. It’s all just old Asian car setups in a new body

Just bought a K5 Gt Line today....omg this car is hot!! For the price tag it cant be beat. I paid 29k out the door.

I love how the centre of the steering wheel is plastic with a "leather" texture, while the actual leather on the rim is completely smooth

Just make sure you avoid the feature that I didn't know I was getting with my Optima; a ton of recalls with the best being the one where the engine can literally blow itself apart at any time, possibly causing a fire. I took it to Kia and they told me "all good but here is a lifetime warranty on the engine, just in case it blows up while you are taking the kids to school."

Now it's usually after their 100k warranty although it happened to someone i know at 79k on a 2014 model without warranty. Props to kia though they did reply it for free.

@@marryellen7713 There's for sure a whole lot more SUVs on the road around me than typical cars, especially with the blurring of the lines with crossovers. But I guess it'll be different for everyone. I'm still surprised the F-150, and pick-ups in general, are the best selling vehicles in the U.S.

I got to test drive this car a few months back and man was it fun to drive one of my favorite cars that I’ve ever driven

If I recorded the Kia sounds of nature sound tracks in the open air cafe I’d record one where a waitress drops a tray of glasses, but it only plays every 300th time.

Yeah like literally put rain sounds on youtube and you'll get plenty of options if you want to listen to relaxing rain sounds. Even spotify has proper rain sounds.

@@joshua9073 Large sedans are dead (1% of the market) there is still healthy demand for small and medium cars which combined make for 25% of new car sales. Yes, CUVs are the craze right now, but such is the way of trends. Electrification will be a boon for the small and medium cars, where less weight just means more range

Doug has reviewed all Kias for the last 5 years, that and every car under the sun. Back in the day he mostly did high in luxury but now he does mostly cars the average person can afford.

The swooping turn signals actually remind of the other Kia logo, the stylized 'K' used in Korea.

The dougscore is relative to supercars/sportscars. Compared to a lamborghini this doesnt even get a 1, it makes total sense. The dougscore is very very very twisted in the direction of sports cars.

That makes sense. The 2013 Ford Fusion was a very handsome car, but it's all over the road now and nobody is gonna turn their head towards a Fusion, unlike a Mustang. The K5 will be like that in a few years once it starts to sell.

I just picked one up, I agree the grill should have been more like the forte or take after the Mazda 3. The wireless charger piece that says pull, is for two things. One to easily clean the area, and if your phone is larger than the slot. The 185 hp is way better on the AWD, on the FWD it’s sloppy and you notice the loss of traction. So for the 290 hp I imagine it’s gonna be even more noticeable on the FWD.

Test drove one of these yesterday. If he's calling this slow, I really hope he never drives any Subaru model like my current Impreza lmfao. Just waiting for the AWD model before I buy.

I bought a new GT line with premium package in May. Like it very much. 0 to 60 in around 7.5 seconds is not slow. Its not super fast either. But 0 to 50 comes quite fast. It's plenty fast for everyday situations. And loves to cruise at 80 all day

Doug the type of guy to have coffee in this Kia while listening to the open air cafe during the quarantine.
