Hey -- you forgot to mention that Hyudai just recalled more than 390,000 vehicles for problems that cause ENGINE FIRES! Owners are being asked to park outdoors until repairs are made! Your puff piece forgot to mention this! Also -- They must recall nearly 187,000 2019 and 2020 Elantras, and 2019 through 2021 Konas and Velosters. The piston rings may not have been properly heat-treated, which can cause engine damage, oil leaks and possible FIRES. Dealers will inspect and replace the engine if necessary. They'll also install piston noise sensing software. Engine failure -- engines made here in the good old USofA, and fire problems at Hyundai and affiliated Korean automaker Kia have plagued the companies for more than five years, affecting the owners of more than 8 million vehicles.

10:01 Optimas have been around before 2011. My gf back then had an 09 Optima with the 4 cylinder. Great car, had 160k trouble free miles on it before trading up. Only issue was the interior door handles were plastic and broke around 130k miles. Interesting enough I was at a junk yard pulling parts for my 4th gen Maxima at the time, and saw another 09 Optima with a broken interior door handle. Must have been common in them. Would be nice if Hyundai/Kia took a page out of Toyota's playbook and switched to dual fuel injection. Doing only GDI engines without port injection is a recipe for dirty valves.

It frustrates me why American Car manufacturers refuse to make their cars better than foreign competition. Like many American's there was a time when I (60 years old now) only drove Domestic cars but now I drive anything but domestic and you would think that these guys would care but honestly they don't!!!! They are a bunch of fat arrogant cats. The motor city used to be such a great place to hang out with incredible history. The post WW2 crowd cared about quality control and building good products. The generations to follow however rather than keeping their eye on the ball laughed at the Japanese and thought their small cars would never be able to make a dent into the car world. Look at us now!!!!!!! The financial bail out post 2008 did some good but nothing like it should have. The USA has the ability to build the best cars in the world but arrogance and stupidity seem to be the "DRIVING FORCES" moving them backward instead of forward. I still have hope that one day true lovers of the automobile will once again step into the roles of CEO of each of the USA automobile companies and we will see their genius hard at work. Until that day, Japan and Germany will be the ones seeing my hard earned money. Scotty, you have a wonderful channel here and you do great work. Thank you very much for sharing.

I can’t say anything bad about Hyundai. I bought new, a 2001 Elantra GT with manual 5 sod and literally drove the crap out of it. I taught my two teenage sons to drive with this car and they drove the crap out of it as well. Other than tires, brakes and a water pump failure at 100k miles it served us well. I ended up selling it to my mechanics son in 2011 who continued the tradition of driving the crap out of it.

Guess which one is still driving, and which one was traded in as a lemon? That's right, the Odyssey is still running, even the 2002 with the 'faulty' transmission out-performed the 5 year newer KIA. The steering did get a little stiff towards the end and it was leaking/burning oil but would still be enough for 5k miles. Bought a 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz and for the price of what it included it’s great. Great warranty, basically every feature I would want (my trim doesn’t have adaptive cruise control) and it’s running great. I do scheduled oil changes, etc. the only thing I remembered was like 2 years ago the battery died but that’s obviously an easy fix. I love my car! I almost cried when my wife came home with Hyundai Elantra 5 years ago but 90,000 miles later I couldn’t be happier. I honestly thought the thing was going to disintegrate quickly but man was I wrong. The only thing that has gone wrong is the keyless rear hatch lock. Other than that, it’s been great. Doors all close nicely, air conditioning works great, handles like a champ, even the brake pads are somehow still original with life left. Unlike my GMC Savanah van with 50,000 miles on it that sounds like baby rattler and you have to wind up like Nolan Ryan to get the doors to close on the first try and the air condition system does not instill confidence. I’m not scared of Hyundai. I’d buy another one.

Through some research and a quick call, told it could be under a recall for that issue and took it to the dealership. After a few back and forth calls, got the car back ( thank God). Word of advice, KEEP records of the service done to your car, like everything, especially the oil change even if you do it yourself. Had to send them one record that was done at a Jiffy Lube and all the times I've done it myself, which helped being I changed it every 7,000 to 7,500 miles....car runs great again so worth it!!

@@ko-Daegu I've been in the automotive industry since 2007, first in manufacturing, now as a certified master technician for Foreign and domestic vehicles. I can assure you that initial quality for Kia and Hyundai is a level above other manufacturers. Their JD Power awards speak for themselves, I don't have bias because I don't work for them anymore, I just work on just about every make and model on the road today. Yes Kia and Hyundai have had their fair share of recalls, most of which have been for 1 or 2 certain engines that have premature bearing failure in which they stand behind their warranty (best warranty in the industry), "some" other makes are following the same warranty, but they stand behind it without question. That's how I've determined what I stated before.

I have a 2016 Tucson with 94,000 miles on it and it is falling apart. It was fine up to about 80,000 miles after that forget it. Maintenance costs are the worst I have ever had and I am 70 years old who drives very gently and have performed prescribed maintenance without fail. Amongst the problems (over and above recalls) have been: 1) Cruise control module replaced 2) Traction control module replace, 3) Rear hatch latch control replaced. 4) Left side rear door latch replaced. 5) Two spark plug ignition coils replaced. 6) Brake fluid sensor and reservoir replaced. 7) Entire exhaust replaced due to catalytic converter failure (ridiculous expense). 8) Paint peeling off rear hatch. 9) Thermostat replaced. 10) Advised dealer heater doesn’t work properly three times and they haven’t been able to fix it. I live in northern Ontario, Canada and need a heater that works properly. 11) Last but not least the engine burns two quarts of oil every 3000 miles. The cost for non-wear related maintenance 2020 through 2023 comes out to $4,130 which is more than my previous Honda FIT and Toyota Corolla combined. The Honda FIT and Toyota Corolla where incomparably reliable and durable compared to the Tucson. The Tucson is my first and last Hyundai and I will be replacing the Hyundai with a Toyota.

Had a 2012 and experienced spontaneous airbag deployment while it was empty, locked, and sitting still one afternoon. Opened the door to take my wife to dinner that evening and the interior was a mess. Stopped driving it after the 'fix' and traded it for a Town Car. The 2012 also REFUSED to hold a straight line on the highway. The steering boost had an overlap rather than a dead spot at centerline. It would either go left or right. Straight line was impossible and driver attention on the highway was MANDATORY. Taking a sip of coffee or yawning would find you in the midst of an inadvertent lane change. The engine/transmission combo was AWESOME in that car. It was always in the right gear, in the right rev range and responded quickly and smoothly to throttle input. The power band was perfectly smooth and the transmission GLORIOUS. Now own a 2018 Sonata and all those issues were indeed addressed. I opted for the SEL with the Tech package. Over 100k miles now and it has been flawless. The engine & transmission are also very nice in the 2018, but the throttle response and transmission shift strategy are not as perfectly matched as the 2012.

People go into autopilot and drive the same route - forgetting the child in the car. The best solutions are to always phone the new driver after they get to their destination to ensure the child is safe and to put your left shoe in the back seat with the child.

Given the choice, the Sonata design is more my style. It looks more luxurious while the K5 looks more sporty. Someone gave me a ride in a 2021 Sonata and I was very impressed. It was comfortable, roomy, solid, and super quiet. I honestly don't know why anyone would pay a huge premium to buy a luxury brand car instead of just getting a loaded Sonata or K5. I previously owned a 2018 Elantra SEL that I bought new. It too felt like a luxury car, but on a smaller scale. So solid. So smooth. So quiet. Great features. Far more engaging to drive than the 2020 Corolla rental car I had at one point, which felt like a cheap tin can in comparison. I did end up selling the Elantra though because it was giving me too many big problems and the dealerships around me weren't fixing it after multiple visits. I just gave up and moved on. Sad because it was a very nice car and I loved it.

It has all the hallmarks of what a classic car is & should be. When it finally is discontinued later this year as production is shifted to electric crossovers along with the K-5. People will be wishing they had one when the price doubles as I fully expect it will do. My K-5 was worth every penny of the 35K I spent on it. Best advise I can give is try for yourself s*** the naysayers. Kia keeps this up we may have to change the name to "Keep It Awesome!!" :b

I started with a 2013 sonata, loved the car . They replaced the catalytic converter at 138,000 under warranty. Totally shocked when dealer said it was covered under warranty. I then bought a 2019 sonata because it was a great deal. They gave me 3400$ on trade in and 6000$ in incentives, because the 2020 where coming out. Walked away paying 16000$ for it. Unfortunately I totaled it with only 22,000 miles. I now have had the K5. I love it. Had minor noise coming from engine compartment, dealer replaced motor. Said it was defective. It has the 1.6 turbocharged engine. I had the car back in two days with brand new motor. Service tech said this was rare for this motor. I love the way it handles and has plenty of power for everyday driving. I finally got my wife to test drive the palisade, we love it . Never got so many compliments on the palisade. I just switched from Hyundai to Mazda. I loved my first Elantra GT. Then, I got the Elantra GT-N. So many stupid little things broke on it in my three year lease. Within two months, my hood latch broke. My parking brake button broke. Now, my parking break is sticking. I moved from MA to FL. My Hyundai dealership in MA was AWESOME. They were on top of maintaining my car. They took VERY good care of me. The Hyundai dealership down here in FL is HORRIBLE. I can't get in without an appointment, which I have to book six months in advance. I'm a small business owner. I can't do that crap! So, I switched to Mazda. I got a 2022 CX-30 Premium Plus Turbo Edition. I LOVE it. It's an SUV with a 2.5 L turbo 4cyl. I get about 30 miles to the gallon in city on eco mode. In Sport mode, about 25 mpg in city. It's sexy, too. It has a very similar sexy front end look to my Elantra GTN (which I still have, and do enjoy as a six speed manual transmission). All in all, I miss driving a manual, but I love the luxury, and how the littles things aren't as flimsy. Edit: My Mazda has the phone connection too. He texts me as often as my hubbs does. Mr. Mazda notifies me about fuel levels, tire pressure, door lock status, and I can start and shut down my car via the app. It lets me know where it is, also.

I owned 2 different Hyundais, I had an accent and then an Elantra and both performed great. The Accent had 180k miles on it and only ended because the ex totaled it. My Elantra had 120k miles still running perfect but I traded it in a couple months ago. Now I have a Kia Sorento and I really love the Kia.

@@lowbou2368 both of mine were 2010, the accent I purchased as a rental car with 13k miles on it. The Elantra I purchased from an old couple who were about to retire and travel, it has 89k miles on it and they offered it to me for the payoff only which at the time was less than $1k. Best purchase hands down I have ever done and it ran great up to when I traded in for my Kia which was also a rental.
