Guitar arm rest & why you need one - unboxing an Albaguitarbeads guitar armrest.
This could be considered to be a review, but it's more of an introduction to guitar armrests. In this video I explain the type of guitar armrests I have used in the past and why you might want to use an armrest. I personally use guitar armrests all the time and I find them an easy way to make playing the guitar over long periods of time a far more pleasant experience.
In this video I take a look at the Albaguitarbeads guitar armrest because it is held on using rubber suction cups which don't damage the guitar and you can put this armrest on a guitar and take it off as many times as you like safely. It is particularly useful if you have several guitars. The Alba guitar Armrest Is the latest addition to the Alba guitar family of accessories for nylon string guitar players. The armrest is fabricated from exceptionally durable PC material, and its surface is decorated with an elaborated wood grain graphic.

    The white stickers are for guitars with ope pore guitar finish so the suction cups stick perfectly

    After hearing people say armrests are needed to help sustain, I did an A/B test recording where I can see the wav form size / length and tried with and without armrest. When without, I really put the weight of my forearm into the guitar. No difference. I use the John Pearce armrest rosewood model btw. Stuck on. The value in it for me is, not getting my sweat / skin cells on the guitar.

    Yes, for me the advantage is not getting a sore and bruised forearm after a week in the studio. 😊

    Worth noting that for most banjos, armrests are a standard pre-requisite for comfort and anti-damping.

    Is there any utility in having the arm rest when playing with a plectrum? Ive been doing some of the fingerstyle lessons but i will also be using a plec when playing in church etc

  • @guitar-academy

    @guitar-academy

    9 ай бұрын

    Good question. . . But sorry I can't answer that, only you know you would find it useful or not. If you find the side of your arm getting sore then you will find it useful. If you play stood up in church then I don't think you would find it useful for that. 😊

    @@guitar-academy thanks for the reply, I do both standing and sitting depending on the service. I'm hoping as my playing improves (just getting back into playing after a few years off) that I can include more fingerstyle so I might invest in an arm rest as I like new toys 🤣. Thanks for all your videos they really help!

    What are your thoughts about pickguards?

  • @guitar-academy

    @guitar-academy

    Ай бұрын

    That's a harder question to answer than you'd think. I guess It depends on how you play the guitar. they do a good job of protecting the guitar if you're a fast plectrum user, but if all you ever do is gently fingerpick the guitar then a pickguard wouldn't be needed. I don't think they effect the sound very much, or perhaps they do very slightly. 😊😀
