    Fair to say but not as surprising to me for a few reasons. Sure he may be 100% right about Lim and Zendaya, but one is an almost, and the other almost feels like a "duh" - it would almost be bigger news to hear she's not returning for SM4. So, as far as movie stories go it may not have seemed so big a headline, especially for a film they know if going to get made, and that's if the assumptions dropped in time to be researched and make it into the show.

  • @bajansamurai

    The intended point was that to call a film a film about women, the comparisons had to be based on who the leads are, not the whole cast. The leads of the first Avengers film are the titular Avengers - who are the 6 that are White, and of the 6 leads, 4 had their solo films to lead up to it, and those 4 are White (and male). The point remains that for the guy to complain about having to see Black or women films, he'd have to be focused on the leads, and to do so is to recognize that those amount to 5 out of 33. So, yes, there is no all-White cast or all-men cast, but it is just like there is no all-Black or all-women one - which is the point. To humor the point, they highlighted the folly of complaining about the few times the later two have been the sole lead demographic.

    I'm no fan of Kevin feige, but his track record speaks louder than words. I don't care for the agendas that Marvel and Disney are pushing because I can't relate with some of the stories. And I don't agree with how he's been handling things, including his other fellow minions. But honestly, without Feige. Peltz would probably be suffering the same fate as DC and warner bros. And also, why shouldn't we focus more on women. I'm not saying overdo it. Although let's not forget about Steven Seagal and Arnold era of fictional movies. But as a guy, I always wanted to share something that is super geeky to share with my girlfriend like Spiderman and Deadpool. And now she wants to see more superhero films with me. It also beats watching something like the notebook during the weekend, although it's a very good movie and a must-see. And I feel bad for John. By each insult, you can tell the man is slowly losing it. While he does his best to comprehend Peltz's idiocracy.

Or was that some intended joke that we're missing? If anything I'd think the straighter line means, lower salary means less disposable income with which to spend on the likes of films in their own demographic (if that's the skewing of who would attend) which would make it only fair to hold it to a lower threshold of performance.

    Good point about Black Panther pretty much qualifying as a woman-led film, and like in another comment, I can see the argument for Eternals being a woman-led film with Sersi featured ahead of the rest of the titular cast. We can't lump in Madame Web or anything else outside of Marvel/Disney though. MW is Sony-made and not in the actual MCU. It is firmly established now that Venom had to portal over, even if we wanted to look at it from a point of view of sharing the universe. Those are tangential connections that do not fall under Feige's creative purview.

    I think the point he is awkwardly making is that Marvel no longer appeals to its target audience. Compare Captain Marvels box office to The Marvels. Now, would Captain Marvel have made $1.13 Billion if it wasn't sandwiched between Infinity War and End Game? I think not. Now I liked Black Widow but if you add that to The Marvels they averaged just under $290m. Not that different to DC whose version of their universe was winding down.

    BW - $379.8M (in pandemic & simultaneous streaming release) and with 8 films between them why look to average it with TM's - $206.1M just to compare with DCEU average? If we're caveating the DCEU winding down a lot of caveats pretty much start to apply all around.

    Ай бұрын

    @@deannorman1349 I get that, but it makes odd data comparables with just 2 in a data set to think them "not that different to DC" - if anything, you'd have to factor in all of the MCU's female-led films to reflect on their performance, and I was recently reminded that BP2:WF would qualify (Shuri being the lead and titular BP) even if we stop short of including CM. I can see an argument that BP2 rides on the BP name similarly to your arguable but somewhat valid point that IW factors into CM's success, but truthfully, that makes it about the same for several films benefiting from being connected to the I Stones saga. Either way, if you're not comparing within direct sequels, it is best to not read too much into anything less than 3 alike data points (better yet, 5, but that starts to need to include CM, and argue for Sersi as the lead of Eternals.) So, what seems the minimum to compare for female led MCU films is (BW+BP2+TM)/3 = $477.8M (and with Eternals making 401.73M, if included, that's still $458.8M average) to the DCEU's average of films within the same time span ($253.2M).

    Feige used to report to the committee about content. To be fair, ever since that change was made and Feige no longer he had to get approval, his track record has been pretty bad both critically and box office wise. Ай бұрын

    @@ca_quixoteagreed. A lot of people tend to have a non sequitur argument. If one takes the original post as fact it would seem like not having committee content oversight is what made Feige's content dip (and that all dipped); however, that is a very limited and convenient assumption about cause and effect. It is more fair to consider that every creative team is different and some things are going to be better than others. There have always been subpar Marvel films among the good ones, but they were also propped up by the overarching thread of the cinematic universe project, and the excitement surrounding the huge box office. Were people blaming the committee then? No. What happened was, there was less content, it was easier for Feige to make real-time creative adjustments, and a banger usually followed the less favorable films. That got harder when the edict for more content production from Marvel kicked in. That's the biggest factor. It was simply too much to keep the quality control as high. Yet, within that, there were still high grossing films with fair to good reviews, and a lower percentage are globally panned by a majority of audiences (on the movie side, that would be Thor:L&D, Ant-Man:Q and The Marvels), the rest, despite not being as great, aren't as ridiculed. So I see that more for what it is, they were producing too much and quality control slipped. You made the correct point that we will see if Feige has "it" when productions made in a more tempered pace environment start to actually come on screen. None have yet.

    @joelgreen1802 Costs aren't completely ignored, but they're hard to always factor into a discussion of averages, and sometimes unnecessary to the greater point. The Captain Marvel film joined an exclusive club of box office earnings. Even if it had a bigger budget and even lost money, there is a separate point about that. In the main case, $1B+ means that so many people saw it and so many tickets were sold. On the other hand, overspending to get there is a matter of fiscal irresponsibility, and questioning if that was indeed necessary to get the earnings it did (all moot points because who's actually calling it being profitable into doubt with actual facts?). And with the law of comparisons, what films are standing opposite it as comic book films that had comparatively low costs to high earnings where anyone knew they'd get such big profits back?

  • @themarvel6633

    @themarvel6633

    The Kid quote- Honestly, I don't think you can downplay what Feige has meant for the MCU. He's basically a movie guy with experience going back a decade producing movies who also happens to have a very deep, wide knowledge of comic books. That is probably the best way to adapt comics to the big screen. A movie guy who's a fan as opposed to the other way around. For the most part, Disney has pretty much let him operate how he wants. I think the one exception is when they fired Gunn which he was reportedly very angry about. Hell, it's even more impressive when you consider that the MCU movies were being handicapped by Ike Perlmutter and the Marvel committee who kept making creative changes up to 2015. Since Disney granted Feige independence from them in 2015, the MCU has been even more succesful critically and commercially. In the end, I think the bulk of the credit goes to him All-New-Course-Corrected-DC-Films-Worlds-of-DC-(No-Spoilers)/page425

    I don't mind having black leads or female leads. But what I can't handle is having to push anti white or anti male messages across movies, shows, or whatever. People want to enjoy things that they want to love, not want to be disgusted by it.

    If anything black panther was black vs black. It was the community analysis of itself. Cousin vs Cousin. It was not an attack on another community. It was only two movies, why is that so intimidating.

    You’re being a bit disingenuous in this John and crew. He stated it horribly, but what he meant to say is that you don’t have to make films just for SJWs. Obviously, Black Panther was cast with ALL black people, but the majority of it was, and that made sense given the premise of the movie. For the Marvels, again, obviously not all women, but could you possibly have fit more men into it? Possibly. Although, even canonically speaking, all 3 of the main characters are female. That aside, and here’s where you’re being disingenuous, don’t act like they haven’t race-swapped or gender-swapped characters. Heck, Steven Yeun was about to be The Sentry, and not only is he not white, but he clearly doesn’t not have the physique for it either. You can have your opinions, but don’t summarily just dismiss others’s.

    U hit it on the nose bro. Marvel started sucking by pandering to SJW's instead of making good movies for the true fans that loved these properties before they ever hit the silver screen. John is just liberal bro. It's ok to have an opinion but be is so condescending. He'd never act like this to someone's face....I'm about to unsubscribe.
