Hollywood is dead and the directors are basically low grade trash that wouldn't cut it a single second in front of a competent director from 50 years ago. They'd be like in that scene with Donald Duck throwing a quarter to the lady to go get herself something nice.

AI will break the neck of Hollywood. You can't create something original/totally new with AI, but using existing movies to train AI and then produce copies (aka sequels, requels, prequels,...) will be possible sooner than later.

I find the Quiet Ones confusing. The aliens hunt by sound, being deaf doesn't mean she's silent, she just can't hear sounds she makes or is in the vicinity of, which would seem to be a weakness, but they treat it like a super ability. Sure it later turns out they can weaponise sound against the aliens and deaf can help find the right frequency but even that isn't all that helpful. It's just a weird premise.

If your talking about the original movies. It's less that her being deaf gives her super powers and more that in order to take care of her pre-end of the world her family became very comfortable using sign language and other methods of communication that didn't create sound. Add to that her inability to hear the sound she made meant her family had to devise methods to prevent noise from being made as she would likely be unaware of the danger she was in. Examples include the soft sand they placed out to walk on and the adjustments they made to their packs to reduce sound. Lots of other families would have tried to reduce the noise they made but wouldn't have ventured so fair into a life lived in silence because of how unfamiliar it was but her family already had one foot into that life so when time came to make changes they were better equipped. At the end of the day it works on movie logic. What's the likelihood the US military wouldn't have employed every method they could think of to kill the things. fire, kinetic, radiation, chemical, sound would have all been on the table and they would have found the sound option eventually. But it makes for a better movie if the little girl is able to turn her weakness in to a strength to protect the family that protected her. More inspirational.

It would make more sense if they had to live in a house with a tyrannical father who lashed out if they ever woke him from his naps. That makes more sense. But because she can't hear sound, they know how to make less sound? no. that doesn't fly. Perhaps discovery of the lack of speaking (using sign language) might save them the first time the beasties are hunting them, but their sign language doesn't make them better at hiding clanking can sounds, or foot steps. And if the beasties are so good at hearing, why don't they hear our breathing and heart-beats? can't hide that. And there's also the effect of occlusion (sound passing between objects or moving objects) ... the beasties would hear changes in ambient sound from someone silently moving through a room or such. It is a silly premise.

I couldn't even watch the entire trailers for most of these.

@@DngnRdr I suppose like any genre, as long as the production company can make it at a reasonable cost, and people continue to pay to watch it, either on DVD or PPV or bundled as part of a package to TV worldwide, Domestically and Overseas, and lastly, the distributor and producers can turn a profit, then these types of movies will keep getting made. The Shallows at $119M actually did VERY well, and was probably a strong reason why other producers (albeit low budget) felt they could duplicate it's success, or at least try.

Bad Boys 7, when they're in their 70s. With great, original jokes like, "I'm getting too old for this." And jokes about Skittles. Yes, a Lethal Weapon joke might be appropriate if they flog the Bad Boys dead horse long enough. I'm not saying they won't be entertaining, people do like reliving their "good old days" and youths but this is not original.
