It's based on the quote. "A dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing this is the most painful death" by Martha Graham. This is about fear of losing one's ability to write lyric's, to dance, sing, rap, compose to lose that first love. It's part of the Map of the Soul album were they look at Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst theories of the Persona, Shadow and Ego. (He was as contemporary of Sigmund Freud). Notice the shadow first dancing while Suga is Rapping on the Theatre stage then at the end while Jungkook is standing in the balancy seating the black shadow is huge but it shrinks quickly falling down to nothing. This is the 'Shadow' the dark part of ourselves, where we hid the things and thoughts we don't want others to see. As it disappears Jungkook gives a little grin as an acknowledgement that part of him he's over come and he can carry on he's not lost his love of what he does.

Honestly I think it's incredibly hard for new reactors coming to BTS - it's almost impossible to get it right. And when we hear something new we all seek a frame of reference so comparisons are tempting - but they are always invidious. ARMYs will try to show you any errors, but don't take it too hard. We all start off knowing nothing and we actually love to watch new people learn about BTS, so we will often give information and lead you - but find your own path, It is incredibly rewarding. Not counting their solo work, they have more than 300 tracks. Of course, BTS have their own influences, and have said many times who they are, but the real frame of reference for BTS is, strange as it may seem, BTS. They are an intensely creative group with songs from so many different genres, and they are constantly changing. Even though they are new to you, and to many, they ahve been working together now for 10 years, so there is a LOT to catch p on. You did well to hone in on the underlying meaning of this song, and to grasp some elements of the style. There is a lot of traditional Korean music influence on how the instruments sound, but I don;t think they used any actual traditional instruments. They have, in the past (especially when they began to explode in the west) had criticism for becoming too westernised (though they never were - it was just that the west were learning to hear). In fact most of their songs are very Korean - in the use of Korean language, metaphor and references, that's inevitable. BTS like to play with many things, and as Suga once said when interviewed - ‘I’m a little bit wary of that but I think rather than approach Kpop as a genre, a better approach would be “integrated content”.’ … ‘Kpop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach Kpop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.’ Naturally that makes the work incredibly layered, detailed and rich. I hope you enjoy your continued exploration.

Dope MV was shown to me next and I found my bias Suga which surprised my granddaughters because he is a rapper. There is so much to say about this group of talented men. There music touches so much and they bring comfort when you need it. I discovered them through the Love Myself era and I haven’t looked back. They even have a album that brought comfort during the pandemic called BE with the title track Life goes on. New subscriber here looking forward to seeing more of BTS reactions 💜

This isn't to correct you or anything like mean, but for us old people there were the Jackson Five, NKOTB, New Edition, even Boys to Men were a boy band. There was a lot between Beatles and Backstreet Boys! 😊 Talent-wise, they sadly can't compete just because BTS is ridiculous. Every member is ridiculously talented. And BTS is like a force for good. It's a global transformation movement. Whether they meant to be all that or not. Enjoy their work! It's all one giant masterpiece!

Thank you! You guys grasped the concept pretty well and believe me, it doesn't happen often, I'm impressed 😂 Next you can react to: "On Kinetic Manifesto Film"- one of their most massive projects ever and it's from the same album as Black Swan, they complement each other. "Boy with Luv" - one of their most "boyband" songs ever, a bop "Spring day" - kind of a ballad with a story in the MV. That song is superior, it's the longest charting song in South Korea ever (5 years and still counting) "Fire" - edm song that kind of shook the industry at the time 😅 It's really fun, has a superior choreo but (cuz it's BTS we're talking about) is actually meaningful. I'll definitely be keeping up with your videos!

We understand the huge impact of western boyband had for the music industry back then. Even I grew up listening to some of them like backstreet boys and west life. Props to them honestly! ARMYS just didn't like it when people compared them to other boybands is because in the past, ill-intended people have used the same comparison to discredit what BTS is doing. Saying how they're just "another" boyband but with rapping and dancing. I'm sure other armys have pointed out that bts' and western boybands have different roots. They have different mission while doing music. Not saying that what western boyband did was bad per se, but to me it just didn't hold the same value to what bts' has going on :D BTS' music is way beyond "fun" they have actual messages that changed people's lives

BTS transcended the ‘boy band’ mentality a LONG time ago! In fact, they were never in that same wheels house! For the most part, they have written, composed and produced their own music since day 1! There is ZERO (never any) comparison to ANY boy band in history! These 7 are successful because of their OWN (original) hard work …period!!!

Hit the nail on the head with the "Black Swan" meaning. We say the same thing in mortgaging (our 'Black Swan' is usually a Friday at the end of the month). As for BTS, it was the only song/music video that they released unannounced, completely unexpected in the middle of the night. Same meaning 🤘💜

Thanks for your reaction, enjoyed it. Please don't worry about A.R.M.Y.'s sensitivity, it just stems from having to fight off the misconceptions/hatred and deliberate disrespect that BTS (and Army's) have faced over the years. We tend to get antsy about the 'boy band' label because in most cases it's used to disrespect the boys. And of course in a 90 mil + fandom you will get some crazies! So all is good, you don't come across as those type of reactors who pretend interest just to get their numbers up. As a 54 yr old Army I was never into fangirling over anyone, but these young men I can happily do so as they are such amazing, humble and genuine people that are worth supporting, it's a wonderful ride down this rabbit hole and will never regret it! You have lots of recommendations, so adding another which is their anthology album 'PROOF' live and an amazing vocal & rap performance. Has Anderson .Paak as guest drummer. I think you'll like this, it is 25 mins long but don't worry on our account, we watch 4 hours plus of content at a go if we have to! Filmed in LA I think.... This song says, “The dancer dies twice. The first death is when the dancer stops dancing. And this death is much more painful,” the legendary contemporary dancer Martha Graham made its motif. Just as a dancer faces his first death when he quits dancing, it contains the fear of the moment when he will no longer be able to stand on the stage as an artist. "The more I do music, the more I fear that music will no longer give me a lot of emotion or trembling, but the moment I face my inner 'Black Swan' from the depths of my heart, I paradoxically realize that there is only music." Suga also said that if he is flying now with the wings that ARMY gave him, he wants to land slowly rather than fall. [Suga] Ayy, they say my heart is not beating no more listening to music Tryna pull up Time seems to have stopped Oh that would be my first death I been always afraid of [RM] If this makes me cry no more If you can't make my heart tremble more How could I ever die like this But what if that moment’s right now right now Ps:Black Swan is my favorite song. When I had to end my 25-year career as a contemporary dancer, I felt the same way, and this song comforted me.

This is my take on this performance.... it seems to me to be a fusion of Modern Dance and Ballet mixed with several other elements. The camera work and the choreography is simply superb. I'll need to go back and read the lyrics because there was so much going on visually that I couldn't take my eyes off the actual performance.

I love the message BTS use their songs for .. Black swan (losing passion)wrote by RM also we 😮have topics like : 1- Loving yourself like : Jin -epiphany(live version is amazing) , bts -idol , fake love , untold truth ) 2- Their relation with the fan ( house of cards , bts louder than bombs , let go, jimin lie , v singularity, pied piper ) 3- Their love to their fans (army) (( jk -euphoria, Jin -moon,bts boy with love ,butter , dynamite) 4- losing someone (sprig day) they used a lot of hidden messages in the music video to refer to an accident that 300 student die in it because of bad authorities arrangement ..such a sad song .. 4 -teens and youth problems (boy in love (how to deal with a girl ! , war of hormone , N.O (about kids who killed them selves because of community requirements of high grades , no more dreams about youth dream ,baepsae about this generation struggling because of the old generation , go go about money and spending every things without thinking of future , Jin -awake about struggling to compete with others even if u don’t have that talent , blood sweat and tears about temptation ) fire about living ur live freely , dope :about working hard , depression: never mind 5- the haters ( mic drop , Suga daechtwa , cypher 1,2,3,4 , ugh (about waste anger from haters) , etc 6- even a goodbye songs for being apart with army ( film out , life goes on , the astronaut, on street ..) They also use to be fought by the big companies and tv stations so they didn’t let them showed in entertainment shows to promote their albums so they create their own entertainment shows on KZread where they share all their backstage stories and create a fun content to their fans .. Everyone say their fans are crazy and toxic ..we are not ..but these seven boys used to be bullied by the entertainment industry because they are from small company and they are country boys not a city boys ! They work hard in every genre ..army defending them hard because they show us that they love us in every way and they opend to us and we know what everyone of them like and what he hate ..there are a lot of story but if u fell in this rabbit hole u will be thankful for knowing them as a person and as an artist ..they wrote their own songs and composed it ..they have RM ,Suga and jhope songs writers and composers ..

If you prefer more R&B-style instead of hip-hop, there's a few I'd recommend: "Singularity" - a solo track by V, which is about him struggling with silencing his voice in order to please someone else in a relationship "House of Cards" - features only the four BTS vocalists and only exists as a live performance video; it compares a dying relationship to a house of cards, fragile and about to collapse. "For Youth" - features all seven members and is a love letter to ARMY about how grateful they are to have had us on their journey for the past 9 years. Only live performance video exists, but was professionally shot by their company while on location in Las Vegas for their 4-day concert in 2022

BTS has 350+ discography with massive number of credits, so much that one of the members is the highest credited artist in Korea (and youngest) with currently 212 credits and the rest of the members are not far behind. They have an insanely diverse discography with easily above 10 genres. Their core is hiphop and its essence lingers in a lot of the varied genres they do. Thereby creating a unique 'bts genre'. Particularly due to the importance of they give to lyrics and their writing styles can often of bases of old school hiphop which thereby infuses into the various genres they do like r&b, Pop, Funk, electro Funk, edm, soul music, rock and emo, Latin Pop, Ballad, Trap, Urban, Alternative Rap, Boom Bap. Interestingly this is vague naming cause the number of subgenres of Pop and hiphop the include is wild. But bts also doesn't stop experimenting. They began in 2013 and after 10 years they are now in a hiatus to serve in the mandatory military in Korea. They are taking turns in enlisting before which the members are doing their first official solo albums (before which the rappers have made numerous solo mixtapes over those 10 years and bts albums tend to have solo songs and unit songs along side tracks with all 7 members. Most of vocal lines previous solo experience comes from solos in bts albums and osts or collabs they did individually). Each members music is so vastly different and also expressing newer sides of them which quite often can be a transition from past lighter lyrics and sounds to darker themes and some the other way round. Speaking of lyrics, bts's main reason of popularity is their thorough introspection and capability to articulate it poetically. Their discography can roughly divided as revolting young boys in '2 cool 4 school' to adulting, youth life and struggles in 'The Most Beautiful Moment in Life' to Hermmen Hesse inspired 'Wings' to 'love yourself' series of albums, to 'map of the soul' inspired from Carl jung, to self reflection and mental stance during pandemic in 'BE' album. Their music speaks of all the raw human emotions, struggles, essence, morality and social standards, taboos and sociopolitical aspects. So much that they have taken risks like calling out political happenings at a time in Korea when things were pretty vile such that you could be get blacklisted for speaking against mismanagement.

Recommend: “So What” live performance, “Anpanman” live performance with Inflatable slide on stage, “Fake Love” music video, “Not Today” music video, “Make It Right” (written by Ed Sheeran) music video, “My Universe” music video and documentary collaboration with Cold Play, “Heartbeat” music video, “House of Cards” live performance from the Vocal Line, “Dimple”/“Piped Piper” combo live performance. They have a wide range of genres from group to solo music, their own variety show (Run BTS), vacations (Bon Voyage), and staycations (In The Soop season 1+2) since 2013 debut. Also recommend: 1) watch the English lyric video, to understand what they are saying. 2) watch the music video TO The End, if available, so you don’t miss anything. Some songs do not have a music video. 3) watch the “behind the scenes” video, if available. 4) watch the “dance practice” video. It’s a long, but memorable and entertaining journey. Hope you enjoy! 💜🫶🍀😎

If you're not into their hip hop beats and prefer softer more melodious music, please listen to Singularity by V, and Jimin's new album. You're in for a treat, that's for sure. Also, maybe you meant it as a compliment, but most people who compare BTS to Backstreet Boys are kind of writing them off as nothing more than light pop meant for little girls .... Whereas BTS is nothing like that. The reason I'm here is because I can see them and tell that they're the next step in the evolution of music. Very, very few artists are capable of their versatility and their skill.

My favourite song is Airplane part 2 Japanese version (of corse they are fluent in Japanese) so please check it out. Alternatively you could go back to their very first videos so you could see their growth and progression . They started as trainees at a very young age and were allowed to make mistakes while expressing themselves. Very unusual. Their producer is a genius and put a lot of thought into how they were guided.

I love seeing reactors fall into the BTS rabbit hole. It’s very entertaining to watch the boys journey from the bottom to the top, that includes mv’s, solo projects, reality shows, live performances, the list goes on. I’m a 16 yr old ARMY and my age isn’t a shocker for ppl who aren’t a fan of BTS since the stereotypical insults that come with boy bands is that their fans are all teenage girls. Don’t let that fool you, this fandom comes with a large scale of age range, nationalities, etc. What I would recommend for you to watch is Taylors BTS guide: “The Bangtan 7”, it gives a more insightful look on the boys background and personalities.

Here's a story: a few years ago, some haters/racists were bullying ARMY online and they tagged Donnie Walberg of NKOTB. Donnie Walberg told them to stop the hate and that he was a big FAN of BTS.

The traditional instrument you hear a lot in Black Swan is the twelve string Gayageum. There’s a fair bit of deliberate processing on the vocals to bring their distinct individual timbres together to make more of a single voice. They’re evoking a singular character, the artist grappling with their Jungian Shadow, the fear of losing their passion for their art. They’ve since revealed that fear was very real for them when they wrote it. The ‘sequel’ to Black Swan is ‘ON: Kinetic Manifesto’.

@@barsandbarbells2022 😆 I'm sorry if my comment made you uncomfortable. I wasn't trying to be mean. It's just that the late 80s and the entire 90s were FILLED with boy bands: New Edition, All-4-One, Boyz II Men, BBD, NKOTB, Jodeci, etc. And before that there was Menudo, The Jackson 5 and The Monkees. Before that there was The Four Seasons, The Tops, The Beach Boys, The Drifters. You're going to realize that a good chunck of ARMY are 40+ (over 20% of ticket sales for their last US concert). No offense intended. 😉

ARMY tends to get defensive when BTS is compared to other boy groups, because 99.9% of the time, when that happens, it's done in a very condescending way. They've gotten a lot of hate from people who have no idea who they are just because they've been compared to other groups like One Direction, BSB, etc. So, that's why. BTS jumps through all sorts of genres. They've done contemporary, full on hip hop, Latin pop, EDM, etc. They've also delved into things like Nietzsche, Dante's Inferno, social stigma, mental health, societal pressure, etc.

I grew up with BSB. Like for real. But when I found BTS, immediately BTS is different for me. I think its because you started with Mic Drop which is more mainstream fare. You will discover the difference once you get into more BTS. BTW BSB has a lot of respect for BTS and said specifically because of BTS they are upping their performances.

Everyone appreciates BTS in their own way. I like to see the videos without the lyrics first because a video is meant to be seen and heard - NOT read. I know there are other people who MUST know what the words are before they appreciate the song and dance and stage - not me.
