I’m not a psychologist, but I was raised by one. My dad passed before I discovered BTS, so I never got to hear his perspective. It’s wonderful hearing your uncle confirm my feelings on the boys: they are genuine, and they really love their fans. I’m 53 years old, and your uncle is old enough to point out another important aspect: instead of hiding from or avoiding fans, BTS seeks them out, and wants to communicate. Never in my life have I seen any celebrity reach out to their fans the way BTS does. I would love to hear your uncle’s observations when all 7 are together, like the 2022 FESTA.

Exactly!!! BTS are genuine guys, and the fact they are open to the small details, like when they make mistakes, is such an important thing for me, that's why I'm here since the start and will keep going with them until the end

It is a "running joke" that the guys are already tired of reading on their lives. Also, "I am the wife of..." Toxic ARMY needs to read a bit more so they can make intelligent and interesting questions to the guys before the mute comments during lives.

8:24 I think most Army can't imagine being called anything else, and the name is actually really fitting. BTS in Korean stands for Bulletproof Boy Scouts and when they first formed in 2013 and earlier they were all under 20 years old. They wanted to write about topics that were important to them, and didn't shy away from being critical of the education system and society in general that places immense pressure on teens to achieve (suicide rates for teens is really high). They wanted to be the voice for their generation and act as a shield and protection (check out the lyrics of their early work No More Dream and N.O) ...and you need an army to do that. Also, the group themselves, when you get into their backstory, needed their fans to be as protective and loyal as they are to get any headway in the industry. Army is the perfect name.

☝☝This is what I was coming to say... Let's be clear, it's attached to the group name somehow or fan directed just like any other Kpop group. BTS is a 3rd generation Kpop boy group, so, naming their fandom in this similar fashion was not new. When they debuted they had to work under the template & schematic set out by the Big 3 record labels--SME, JYP, & YGE. But, BTS's fandom name is extremely meaningful to them...as well as the merch... like the light stick they refer to as a BOMB. Maybe to someone who doesn't know how precious these boys are might read this stuff first and think they're militant..they are, just not in the derogatory fashion. They're militant about addressing societal issues that no one their age was willing to address in a way that touched the populace, and Army protect them from any blow back they get for being the voice for them and raising awareness.

Agreed. I can see how someone without context could see it how he has here, but with the history and knowing the band, I think the fans take pride in being their ARMY. We're very protective and defensive of our bulletproof boys. 💜

But does Taylor Swift call her fans Swifties? I know the fans made that name and everyone uses it but I keep seeing Taylor call them fans. I might be wrong and haven’t seen enough content of her but I remember thinking this when I saw an interview with her and the interviewer kept saying Swifties while Taylor would use Fans throughout the conversation. Although I do believe Swifties is copyrighted by her.

BTS is actually an acronym for Bangtan Sonyandan, which is roughly translated as Bullet proof Boy Scouts. That make the acronym ARMY make more sense. Also, V is not tuned out. I originally thought so too, but the more you watch him you’ll see that he is hearing every word. He absorbs and processes before he speaks. Thanks for you thoughts. Fun

Hobi sitting on the floor and the maknae line is on the top. For a first glance they are dominating him, but actually he is the best in technology, and he decides about the camera angle, the beginning, the end, and moderates the chat with the fans.

Hobi sat at the front so that he could easily read the messages of the armys. He likes to interact with them and share his tmi. Armys who have been to the bts concert once said that Hobi often goes to the corner where the camera can't catch, in order to interact with them. When it is necessary to be funny regardless of the image to activate the atmosphere, he will always stand up. but he's a quiet guy irl. He's not the type to put himself at the forefront in order to show off; instead, he always gives others the opportunity to show their strengths.

Yeah Hobi always handles the technology when it’s the group like this. He’s great and he reads comments. He’s just lovely. I’m going to miss him while he’s in the military 😭 he enlists tomorrow it seems.

According to the old armys... the stage names and personas of the seven members were all given by the company, some baby armys think Hobi is too loud and even dislike him, but few people would think about how much pressure he was under for this image. After Hobi's military service announcement came out, he comforted armys on Instagram or live several times in a timely manner. He's the one who's going to do military service, but he never mention his worries about the unknown life in the military...when I saw the news that Hobi, who was noisy in the eyes of others, entered the military so quietly, my emotions suddenly collapsed, he has been a person who has nothing to do with show off and selfishness.

This is a great point and it reminds me of the BTS logo, which is an opening door they're coming through, and the ARMY logo which is the same door on the other side, being opened towards us.

I count myself as part of their Army (Adult Role Models of Youth). As a 68 year old Grandmother, the boys give me hope for the future generations and as role models. I love them so much. Remember, these boys have been together since they were kids and even lived together. V is my bias due to his personality, how he thinks and feels, so much like me. Thank you for sharing your uncle with us.

V was the one I first heard on a YT short singing a Christmas song while holding his little dog. 2022. I did connect with his farm background and I think that hard life can mature a person beyond their years. Also his Grandmother passing so soon as he debuted and she raised him while his Mother was working in another country. That is what I read. Trying to keep truth in knowledge. Love what they represent!!

I think it would be cool for him to watch something that shows the members showing their own feelings and emotional struggles as well, like one of the multiple times they open up about how they feel or go into philosophical talks about happiness and stuff, cuz I personally think that is when they show the most when it comes to emotional maturity, especially namjoon and yoongi maybe festa 2018? or 2022, tho we're still traumatized from that one lol

Your uncle seems real cool haha. @ 4:22 it was kinda funny asking if V talked. I think V can be introverted at times and a bit aloof. If you watch his solo livestreams, it can seem very calm like he's always thinking about something, and he takes his time to say what he's thinking. But that's just one side of him depending on his mood or the topic.

V is so different and charm 💜

Only V has great taste / knownledge abt world of music old n new various music genre singers among the other bts boys has esp vocal line (even in old n new korean singers music / lyrics) He won't just sing /listen only JB ,Ari , Harry, charly puth hit songs to get a collab w them or litterally just knows abt some k pop singers only like BANGBANG etc like some other bts members....😒

There is also one thing that I think ur uncle might find interesting. V used to present himself, at the beginning of BTS, very differently than he does now. He would be very bright, random, and active, kind of like J-Hope. He was known to be very eccentric and bubbly. What turned him into someone calm and collected is actually subject to quite a lot of theorizing! Quoting the ones off the top of my head there is the fact that people used to bully him for how unique and random he was, the fact that the change happened right after he lost a very dear family member, or simply the fact that he’s grown and people change. This subject is actually a sensitive topic in fandom, causing a lot of discourse. I personally am against theorizing too much about people’s private lives, but what ur uncle pointed out about him made me think of this. He still is as eccentric, unique and bubbly as he used to be! He just has a very selective way of showing this side of himself now, and appears to be more on the reserved side as time passes

Did not think this would happen today but I love you and your uncle - WOW!! I am 56 (American born & raised) ** ARMY ** since 2020 - BTS helped me through cancer during COVID with all the love & support they show each other AND ARMY. I live in a happy, happy BTS world and WILL meet them someday. My daughter (20 now) loved BTS for YEARS and I was concerned because of different cultures (ignorant, I know - they are more polite than we are) and ended up discovering BTS on my own through Target's commercials using Dynamite. I absolutely LOVE that song and found out months later that it was BTS when I recorded MTV's BTS Unplugged for my daughter. I FELL IN LOVE and am happily STAYING THERE. We need more people like BTS. Max, tell your uncle I am OT7 (but was hooked originally by the one & only JIMIN). Oh, and did I mention that BTS has an ENDLESS list of AWESOME SONGS???? Glad you popped up on my KZread. I don't normally watch this type of video. But I must say I really enjoyed it and I will definitely watch more videos. Being a person from the backstreet boys generation, I always think how lucky this generation is to be able to have this contact in real time with their idols. I think Bts are really genuine. Like your uncle, V is my bias. His personality is very interesting. I feel he has an old soul, not in a perjurative way but as a very special person.

Not sure if anyone answered it yet, but your uncle asked who V was representing on his t-shirt. That would be Gavin Rossdale. He's been in a couple groups, as well as had a solo career. Bush and The Institute are 2 of the groups he's been a lead singer for, and his genre is difficult for me to figure out. It's got elements of Rock and Grunge, but other as well. I'm surprised your uncle caught onto that. (He's more late 90's/early 2000's, I think, and has delved into acting a little, as well.) So I can see how V might find him inspirational.

Was going to comment but I was so late to the video there are hundreds of comments already. Loved meeting Uncle Harley, thought he was very astute and your relationship seems lovely. Max, you really have not come across the Korean heart yet? Really surprised but now you know you will spot it in more videos. The Yet to Come concert in Busan was lit. I watched it on the live stream and was blown away in the first few seconds. The audience sang Happy Birthday to Jimin and it was a real treat for JK and Jimin to perform in their home town. Would love for you to show your uncle more of BTS 💜

Actually, the Busan concert was highly important for BTS: 1. It was their last concert as a group (because they have to enlist to do the mandatory military service), they will comeback up until 2025, meanwhile they are focusing in their solos work and eventually they will enlist one by one. 2. The concert and the attendance concert was huge, basically the entire city of Busan became BTS city, everything and everywhere was BTS tematic. This concert helped to raise the economics of the city and increase tourism. 3. The concert was free because it was meant to help the Korean goverment. The goverment wanted to promote Busan to be elegible to the "World Expo", and BTS, being the pride of Korea, was chosen for their massive popularity and influence. 4. Busan is Jimin's and Jungkook's hometown, so being welcomed as superstars was very meaningful for them. edit: Also 5. It was their first post-pandemic concert, and they were hella excited to finally perform infront of a live audience everything they had been preparing for years but couldn't show us because their World Tour was cancelled due to the lockdown 😢 Basically, BTS put their blood, sweat and tears for this concert and they said that it brougth them lots of joy and happiness 🥺, so as you can see, they can't stop talking about it. (Sorry for my english, I'm not a native speaker)

JHope is very emotive and very reactive. Watch when he gets scared or happy ... JHope shows his emotions with his entire body. I attribute it to his dancing and spatial awareness of his body.

Such a pleasure to see your uncle and to hear his thoughts. You both do look like family. 💜 Jimin was running in and out because he was getting the ramyeon for them. JHope was sitting near the computer because he was monitoring the live on the screen.

As a silver army Psychotherapist, I agree! Uncle saw and heard and commented accurately. The overlapped finger position creates a heart shape. That was immediately after their final concert, they knew it, but we didn't yet... That was possibly the last post concert followup...😢 Did you tell him how they are all Jungian educated and their songs and videos have Jungian hero themes, or ego and shadow conflicts? But...that leads to the BTS rabbit hole! I found BTS through my therapy clients across ages, who claim BTS helped them learn to love themselves. I had to check them out after

Silver Army here myself. 64 yo f. I first randomly ran across the guys when they released the official MV “Life Goes On”. It was dead pandemic time where we were locked down due to Covid. Just before this I had been diagnosed with Lymphoma Stage IV. I felt hopeless and then I saw the video w CC. It gave me hope and helped me be motivated to get to chemo. The more I watched their previous videos the more I connected w their message and kindness. BTW my Cancer isn’t curable the treatments will help prolong my life. Well the Drs said I had 3-9 years. Well they’ve gotten me through a lot of sleepless night w their positive vibes. I’ve made my 3 year mark on Jan 2, 2023 and I’m shooting for another 3. I’ll shoot for another 3 over and over. I have 3 children, 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and I fight for them. BTS really pulled me out of my stupor and I’ll be Silver Army until I die (God willing I’ll outlive my expiration date) Thanks Matt! This was interesting.

Great to have your uncle with this analysis… I believe he’ll be army soon :) Just couple comments for your uncle. Jhope is the oldest of the four in this group. I think he wasn’t being a show off but rather he’s humble enough to let the 3 younger members be on major part of screen, and him sitting on the floor instead; also having done this live sessions for the past 10 years, they’re all very comfortable with army and him sitting right by the monitor just shows his comfort level On jimin, he does have funny and mischievous moments and his own members have said that he’s been the funniest these days, although in this particular live session, he wasn’t pranking and having a side show; instead he’s being his usual self making ramen for them to snack on, knowing they’re probably hungry having just finished two hour concert and not having eaten dinner yet. So it’s always him being caring for his members, he likes taking care of the 2 younger ones v and jk and his bff jhope of course.

This video makes me happy especially at the end when your uncle hugged you ❤️💜BTS is the most humble group of people out there. They love each other and they love ARMYS genuinely 💜💜

As a fan, I personally feel much more connected to them when they refer to us as army rather than the fans/viewers! It feels like just something between us (despite a lot of ppl knowing our fan base name haha). I think it’s partially because they use the fan base name when referring to us much more than most western artists do. Also because they tend to say “our army” quite often too, which is more endearing, and more so in the Korean language as well.

They also use "fans" to make subtly clear that they didn't like something. I don't remember anymore what was done by ARMY but it was one of the dumb actions and they after referred in one BigHit note to us as fan not as ARMY, felt like being scolded

@@anjalirawat5177 it only happened a couple of times, for example some years ago (I think around 2018) armys were passing around paid content illegally too often and bighit came out with an statement that included bts "FANS" in it instead of ARMY and it really felt like being scolded, like losing ur name and everything, very traumatic honestly LMAO, it just doesn't feel right

if army didn't have a military meaning, on a sonic level, it's actually kind of a cute word, like Ernie, and we don't even think of it in a military way when we say it

19:01 This was filmed in October, but in June they formally announced their hiatus as a band while the members fulfill their mandatory military obligation, so in a sense the Busan concert is their last scheduled concert until at least 2025 and maybe even beyond that consider the time it will take them to come back together, create new concepts, prepare, etc. Besides that, when it went public that they would be focused on solo work for the time being the news outlets all exaggerated and created panic by saying the band was breaking up to the point that Hybe corp lost billions in stocks. Also, as of the filming of this live, J-Hope had already released his solo album and headlined Lalapalooza.

At least he wasn’t straight up hating the fandom name but give him some time, and when he finds out what it actually means his opinion will probably change..

about them turning off the live and what they might think or say to each other: Jimin these days was live on his way home by car and he hasn't done more laid back spontaneous livestreams like that in a long while, it's always kind of scheduled unless he's with other members, but this time he did a spontaneous live and nearing the end of the live he said something like "it's really fun to do lives like this" and his manager thought the live was over and Jimin was talking to him and not with ARMY. That led us to think that Jimin saying sweet things like that is really common if the manager thought the live was over.

It was interesting how your uncle picked up on Taehyung. He’s such an interesting character, sometimes quiet and detached and sometimes really into what’s going on. The others thought he was an alien when they first lived together because he’d burst into activity out of the blue but also sit and talk to himself in TaeTae. SUGA thought he was putting it on but once he realised that that was the real Taehyung he accepted him and supported him rather like a father and son relationship or certainly a real older brother. Now he’s matured he’s quietened down a lot but he’s a divergent thinker so he’s still a bit off the wall. They were making the Korean heart with their fingers.

He’s just really calm in nature and keeps to himself at times but can be super goofy when he wants to be. Him being cold hearted is just a early stereotype and many army’s should know by now he is not like that. He’s like the type of person that never raises his voice even when he’s angry.

It looks like Gavin Rossdale, the lead singer of Bush on V's tee.

I became the army because of V. I was mesmerized by his looks.

If you're an ARMY you'd probably know each members characteristics. And you'll always find their behavior normal to their personalities. His uncle is not ARMY and one video is not enough to characterize each member,I hope he can see more of BTS videos so he'll get to know them more.💜

I don't think attention-seeking is inherently negative. It's just certain stereotypes put on celebrities, especially Kpop idols, make that term seem negative. Jhope acts a certain way for ARMY and that in itself is attention-seeking. Jin, admittedly, does similar things. He's not saying there's anything wrong, just he's a more in-your-energy/space type of charisma, whereas V is a more subdued charisma. That is part of their appeal though, how different they all are and how well they work together. I love their differences like most of ARMY does :) I hope that helps to appease any fears you might have about what he said!

So cool! To add, BTS named us ARMY on July 9, 2013. In Korean, it's written more like "ami"....it sounds cute and sweet. I've seen breakdowns of the name itself! For example, ARMY also sounds like "areumi" which is Korean for beautiful...and ARMY technically stands for Adorable Representative MC's for Youth...tho we don't tell our government name to everyone on first meeting😅...having heard them call us ARMY for years and years. .its a term of endearment, a matter of pride almost. I love the name, love how strong and unapologetic it sounds....like it way more than "Swifties", "Lil Monsters" etc, even tho I like those artists and consider myself a casual fan..but I'm a proper fan of BTS, you know? We have a special bond. It may be be separated by kilometers and it may be parasocial, but we support each other in our own way and have shared thousands of memories with each other. It's a unique relationship

@@kamalhossan5694 I agree with you....the first BTS member I encounter is V. Because he is my sister's bias. Even tho he is extremely handsome and charming he wasn't my bias. I found Namjoon really attractive and talented and all I knew about V is that he looks good. Whenever I ask any Army friend about V, they said how good he is on stage how he looked so cold an extremely good looking and charming... This and that. I was going on in really bad situation and that made me emotionless and I stopped crying no matter what. When I first time hear "Winter bear" I cried after so many day. It's not about song it's something about his voice is so magical that brings back all my emotions which I felt I lost years ago. Before that I didn't gave him much importance. After that I tried to know him, started to give him my attention and eventually I came to understand how unique he is. How much pure and soft he is, How he is so deep like his voice. And I feel sad when no one appreciate his talent. I know that he feels insecure about his voice. In any reaction video in comment section every Army I was talking about how every member is talented. But no one talks about V's talent. Even his own Stans don't appreciate his talents and only talks about his looks. His own Stans don't encourage him to release his songs they don't give him confidence about his talent. That's how he's the most popular member of BTS and also the most underrated BTS member by talent.✌🏻 (And V is my bias now💜✌🏻)

Busan is Jimin and Jk's hometown. So before this concert I'm sure these two were having a meal with their families. This was their final concert before BTS members start their individual mandatory military 2 year enlistment. This concert was free and close to 100,000 ARMY attended. This was also Live streamed for millions of International ARMY as well! Jimin, J-hope, V and Jk started this livestream right after their concert ended. 💜😊🎉

Thanks you did a good judgement to them, and made us more open and understand the members situation. BTS is a therapeutic to most of their fans ,watching them naturally without any inhibition and most specially V who doesn't care about what he gonna be look on camera when he does some facial expressions,whether he gonna look ugly or whatever ,he's a real person whom doesn't need to look good but give he's self as a simple human in front of us. It's so interesting to see people outside the fandom notice what the genuine fans known best, like I'm an ARMY since the start and sincerely what's makes me still being dedicated to BTS is the fact that they are genuine, not only their talent or their looks are attractive, but them as persons truly makes me want give back the help and love they showed to us, their fans, and it's such an unique feeling

Re: offending army - they do keep it real with us too. Namjoon in his recent live said he was disappointed by the chat being really weird , and even said it might be better if he did a live with the chat turned off next time. Really hope that was a wake up call to people typing weird things in chat. In another live, Jungkook, in as sweet a way as possible, asked people to respect their boundaries and not find them outside of official scheduled events (some people found him at the gym because he did a live stream there)

Doubt that. Because they don't think it is weird or feel called out. I was emberassed when I saw their third UN speech and saw what some people commented. We have tried so often to stop some of the more idiotic comments. I hate the shippers in chat!

@@dan.dandan Don't think it would work: Too many comments to even see those that drop the most BS. Except if they copy&paste their comments too often. But one could wish (and it isn't only on weverse/Big Hit/HYBE etc. it is in every event BTS is part of and that has a livestrem with chat.) I wish those "Army" would be more respectful to also the other people be it in chat or in the livestream. They have more than once broke livestream especially for people with a not so good connection. But they won't listen/ignore the begging.

Everytime they do a group live and switch between talking amongst themselves then talking to the camera(us-ARMYs) makes us feel like we are in on the conversation… in some lives they even ask questions and we answer through text… that is what makes BTS and ARMYs close…

I love that right out of the gate he picked up on them not wanting to talk about the crazy marry me people. Lol. He seems like he's really cool. Lol the raising his hand to talk. I can see why you look up to him. You should show him in the soop.

The finger move, as you call it, is the symbol of a heart. The whole clenched fist represents the heart itself while the two fingers criss crossed are the arteris. The same 2 criss crossed fingers also resembles a tiny heart hence its called a "finger heart" so when they do that symbol with their hands, its basically them showing their love and affection and offering their own hearts to all of us ARMYs.
