Christian(DPR IAN) is VERY intelligent and talented. Not only is he a co-founder of dpr (an artist collective) he actually served/continues to serves as their creative director. He also directed and edited a verity of music videos for other artists as well as the other dpr members. On top of being a talented editor and video producer, he also produces and composes most of his own music! He also writes his own lyrics. AND on top of that he’s a great vocalist and dancer! So he’s a creative director, music video director, music video editor, music producer and composer, a singer, lyricist AND a dancer. And he’s very good at all of these things as well! All his music videos look like mini movies! It’s almost unfair that he’s also so handsome lol 😅

From DPR Ian's (real name, Christian Yu) Wikipedia page........ "DPR Ian was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was a teenager, then later in his twenties with D.I.D aka Dissociative identity disorder.[20][10] He later created an alter ego, Mito, to reflect the low episodes of his mental disorder. " He has talked about his mental health very publicly, and I have no doubt he has helped many people without even knowing it. I admire the way he deals with his own issues and still maintains a strong creative force. He's pretty much a genius, in many ways, possibly (probably) due in part to his manic episodes and D.I.D., which cause him to imagine things we probably can't even understand.

I'm so glad you decided to check him out!! Ian is insanely talented in what he does. He ofc sings but also writes his lyrics, directs and edits his mvs himself. He is very open about his mental health, you should check out his lives as he speaks more in detail there. I became a fan like two months ago and I'm so glad I found him. Also, him and mito are different people it seems because he mentioned DID in a recent live, so when he posts on insta and its mito, there is a black moon in the caption.

What a lot of people dont know is that bipolar disorder is actually a physical illness and the mania and depression are the symptoms. Bipolar disorder is genetic and it is activated by puberty. Physically it is a deterioration of the impulse control and emotional response parts of your brain. That is why a lot of the common "mood stabilizer" meds given for Bipolar disorder (such as Lamictal or Valium) are not geared towards treating chemical imbalances like depression medications are. For example I take Lamictal and its traditionally an anti-seizure medication but it works for a mood stabilizer because what it does is create this type of protective barrier around the brain that helps to keep those damaged parts of your brain from deteriorating further, and in some cases help heal a tiny bit. Symptoms are also much more complex than mania = on top of the world and then the depression. For example when I am manic my main symptom is what they call bipolar anger (but also the stereotypical not sleeping..which makes it worse). The cycles can also greatly vary. You have some people that have prolonged cycles or you have someone like me who rapid cycles several times throughout the day. Off medication, when I get angry I become the most hurtful spiteful person and I say the most awful things to people because I feel like the anger is going to explode out of my skin and somewhere Im just desperate to get that out because I just literally feel like Ill explode The messed up thing is that I realize when Im spiraling, Im fully cognizant of it - but its like Im a third person standing in my brain watching this other part of me just lose their shit and I cant do anything to stop it.. like.. a helpless bystander... idk if that makes sense anyway.. I hope this provided some insight and education sorry for the ramble.. bipolar disorder is completely complex, even more so than Ive said here

Thank you so much for your comment! I have Bipolar 2 and I hate when the symptoms are so simplified as well. It’s a spectrum and I think it’s important for people to remember when consuming Christian’s work. (On top of his DID.) I’m on Lithium and Lamictal, after trying 2.5 years of pretty much everything. I know what I feel like unmedicated and that’s enough of an incentive to adhere to my regimen. Also, my hypomania presents strangely and is mainly internalized and comes out in extreme irritability and feeling like I need to peel off my own skin. I’ve had one manic episode in which I spent $6k on sewing supplies though…I’m glad that’s not a normal occurrence in my life!

@@thespianoge its such a huge relief when you finally find the right treatment isnt it? ofc symptoms dont disappear but its a world of difference. I was misdiagnosed for much of my life, depression meds for years that just made me so much worse nd a danger to myself, then several years of no meds. I finally worked up nerve to see a psychiatrist again and was properly diagnosed and medicated within that one appointment. The psychiatrist was blown away at how many incorrect diagnoses I'd had to go through. I completely empathize with the $6k spending.. I have an incredibly hard time with money, my impulse control is very minimal and coupled with my constant (subconscious) search for something to make me happy...well... yeah.. But you know.. we do the best we can and there's always tomorrow to start over again

When zach said cclown, I was stunned for a second simply because it's a name I don't often hear out loud. It's like an unspoken rule where you just know his kpop era was a thing but you don't actually mention it (simply because he mentioned that it was pretty traumatic) so hearing it in an interview kinda threw me off a little. It reminded me of how the character Tori reacted to a question that her friend, Michael asks her in a part of the audiobook version of Solitaire by Alice Oseman that blew up tiktok. "And the question sounds so unreal...because you never hear anyone ever asking that question in real life." That's the best way I could explain it.

Cclown wasn't very big. They did basically everything they could to promote the group but it only got so far and they disbanded after 3 years. They weren't exactly "nobodies" though. The public knew that they existed, part of that stemmed from the fact that the kpop scene was (as Christian said) much more like a kpop group debuting a week, maybeee two. now there could be several debuts in a day. Buttttt they weren't exactly IN the spotlight enough for the public to do a full double-take, just a glance, and then they'd turn their attention back to the big groups. Another difference between then and now is that, unlike now where any random group could become the next big thing, back then general public didn't really pay attention to underrated groups and they often disbanded whether or not the music was good or similar to the big groups. Cclown's music was actually really good for that time period and in my opinion is STILL good because I still listen to their music to this day. There's a sense of nostalgia that comes with their music and there's no reason why they shouldn't have been as popular as EXO and B.A.P. They were the epitome of underrated.
