The part that hurts me is that superman is a journalist and makes money similar to Peter from Spider-Man. They say Batman is more relatable because he's human, but he's also a billionaire, while superman and Spider-Man are poor middle class workers.

Superman himself doesn't make money cause he doesn't need it, making Superman's disguise more relatable than Batman's identity.

I was not prepared for that superman speech. Your take on GvS2 is the most unique I've ever seen, everyone who talks about that episode only ever talks about the vs debating stuff, you're the only one I've seen go into character stuff. I already disliked GvS2 before I watched this vid, but seeing just how much it bastardized Superman in the analysis, it honestly comes across as a two sided spite fight with Goku getting jobbed so hard as to have his final attack be the most no sold thing in the series, and Superman getting disrespected hard in the analysis.

I know right I hated it when people keep saying Superman is a boring character with nothing to back up their claims. Superman is more than just super power guy who weak to a green rock he’s a symbol of hope someone you can have a shoulder to cry on a man who despite many many failures and has the choice to stop and give up being superhero continues to get up the next day to do the job people focus way too much on the super part they forgot about the man part if they ever do third one I hope they do justice Superman’s character

People we’re still complaining saying that they were bias against goku just because he lost. I guess their biased against Charizard since he lost. People will just attack db for not having the so called unbeatable goku lose and I’m a dbz fan but not a fan of the majority of the community but still a fan of the series but am able to know goku isn’t even in the top 10 strongest of his universe

God that Superman talk at the beginning. I always love your Superman talks lol. Its awesome to listen to fans of Clark praise him. Cuz at least in my environment a lotta people just see him as a big boring meat shield. Hes a lot more human than people give him credit for. A lot more relatable as well, in his own way of course. And I wouldnt mind a Joker return but MAN his good opponent pool is quite shallow

@Garry Snail It's not that nobody wants to see Batman vs Spiderman matches, they just need to have enough that can stand out about them to not just make them feel like "just another bat vs spider stomp that nobody cares about". This is why Batgirl vs Spider-Gwen got so much hate the moment it was announced, because it's basically just Batman vs Spiderman again with the characters having practically nothing off their own that could make the match stand out on it's own even if the episode itself wouldn't have been as bad as it was. By comparison, matches like Scarecrow vs Mysterio or Sandman vs Clayface have far more animation potential because the abilities that those characters have are far more unique and allow for more creativity if used right. I find Joker vs Green Goblin kinda meh, i wouldn't be too upset if it happened but at the same time i also wouldn't mind if they could find a better opponent for Goblin.

The speech about superman made me think about One Punch Man’s true overarching story. A story of a hero, who despite the fact that he never loses, every win for him is a loss. He wants to get a challenge, he wants to not be the strongest, but every single new villain can’t even hold a candle to him. And it just is destroying him from the inside. I just love the emotion he throws into his analysis. It’s perfect.

Saitama's arc is all about him finding meaning in his life; Even if that meaning doesn't come from what he worked so hard on. He complains about losing his emotions, and so he gains those feelings again through meeting other people and doing other things outside of the Hero hobby; As the story progresses more and more people start hanging out with Saitama he lives with and trains Genos, goes out to eat with Bang or play videogames with King. Not to mention much like Superman Saitama's most integral points are points where he acts as a "hero"; Helping a police station, taking blame off the other heroes for failing, stopping someone from committing suicide, sitting down and talking with Garou etc.

I must say Nemesis, your whole explanation on how Superman is a great character was beautiful and inspiring.

The shit you said about superman is exactly why I never want Simon or any gurren lagann character on death battle, like not even because of the possibility of them losing just because they much more meaningful to me and others than that

@@nettune9980X I have too. They usually get characters right. Sure it sucks when they don't but it just depends on the writers. Ryuko vs Shadow is one of my least favorite episodes because of the way both characters were portrayed. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't want a character on the small off chance they aren't portrayed correctly.

As a massive Superman fan, I've got to say that the Superman speech you gave was amazing and I wish that more people could understand Superman the way you did. Your feelings for Goku vs Superman 2 are exactly the same as mine for Rewind Rumble's Superman vs Jiren. SSUltimateGoku spends the entire analysis talking about how much he doesn't like Superman, about how he finds him boring, about how he will do "mUcH bEtTeR tHaN Death Battle", he keeps describing Jiren as "BeTtEr ChArAcTeR ThAn SuPeRmAn In EvErY wAy", at one point he stops to scream about how much he doesn't like DC. For whatever reason he decides to stop half-way in the analysis just to call every single DC character ever "OvErRatEd" as if we should apologise for liking those characters! Heck, in the fight animation itself Superman is portrayed as the antagonist! Superman, a character who symbolises hope and all the good parts of humanity, is portrayed as the antagonist! You know, at this point, the fact that I believe Superman should have beaten Jiren research-wise doesn't even matter, because a) Animation Rewind feels like he legitimately tries to be fair to both combatants and, as a fan of Animation Rewind, I appreciate that and b) after all the mockery Superman, DC and Death Battle received during the episode, I knew before the fight even started that Jiren wouldn't lose that fight, so I didn't even care about whether or not I agreed with the outcome, because the whole episode just feels so mean-spirited, because SSUltimateGoku couldn't even try to hide his bias. SSUltimateGoku took what could have been an episode of Rewind Rumble that, although it had a questionable outcome, could have been fun and well-made and turned it into a mean-spirited mess...with a questionable outcome! Superman vs Jiren ends up having the same issue that Goku vs Superman 2, the Goku vs Superman debate and many more matchups (like Korra vs Rey) have; an absolute bias against one of the combatants, in this case against Superman.

@Kanye Young didnt they also slither goku to be slower than superman too though post analysis. It was great, also their screw up on durability since base goku by start of android is stronger than mecha frieza, frieza being shown as planet level in durability while injured and cut in half, and having no energy left to protect himself. Or how base kid goku is like ssj3 buu saga goku in terms of strength as well, making their actual calcs like around 400+ times off the actual calcs.

@Garry Snail he means that they high balled super man by “calculating” his abilities as infinite, for example the book of infinite pages, Superman saw an end to the book and needed help from Shazam so no his strength or at least the strength of that Superman isn’t infinite, he described this as a no limits fallacy, it’s hard to describe what it means when someone states that something has no limit because something has not demonstrated any limits

I honestly never thought about GvS2 in the way you elaborated it... huh. I guess it's because I'm pretty neutral on both Goku _and_ Superman (though I prefer shonen manga to superhero comics), but you know what? You're absolutely spot-on with your analysis of how that episode's analysis disrespected Superman by essentially saying "he's unstoppable and therefore he's boring." That sucks. I can easily imagine a big Superman fan being irritated by that. I suppose the reason they did it is to appease the Goku/Dragon Ball fanboys who were literally sending them *death threats* at the time (since the first episode broke the internet), hence the heavy Goku bias... but on the other hand, maybe that's why they shouldn't've ever made a sequel to the original GvS. They should never address fan reception, at least in actual Death Battle episodes; there's no issue if they bring stuff like that up in a Cast episode, like what they did in the wake of GL vs. B10. I won't be surprised if that was the reason why Death Battle decided to bad-mouth Superman just to appease the Goku fans who thought sending death threats was a "normal" reaction to a fiction fight. People really need to stop taking fiction fights so seriously

Jesus…I never ever cry, but that Superman quote literally makes me cry every time I watch this video, funny how a fictional character can make us feel better

I'm not really into comics that much, but man...I would be lying if if said your speech about Superman didn't cause me to tear up. I can also relate to selling myself short in..a lot of ways. Seeing how even someone with that much power can struggle in the same ways feels somewhat comforting. And considering I'm about to enter college soon and how I'm always afraid that things might not work out, that little comic excerpt you read really touched me.

In regards to Superman vs Goku 2, I didn't pick up on all the anti-Superman bias myself but thinking back, it makes sense due to the fact that the whole episode is "Superman is too op and never loses so Goku loses". Also, given the fact that there are tons of examples of Superman losing and struggling, the fact that they think he's never challenged or loses is so fucking stupid. So...did he not lose in Death of Superman? He beat Doomsday but 'died' in the process (unsure if he did actually die with what is said in Blackest Night), so that seems like a loss or at least not a victory. He gets mind controlled by Maxwell Lord, nearly kills Batman and Wonder Woman has to slit his throat just to break him out of it...is that a win? Getting mind controlled, forced to fight your best friends and almost getting killed? Hell, in Infinite Crisis, the DC Trinity distrusts each other greatly and the whole comic goes on and on about how Superman isn't doing enough, Batman even gets a huge burn of saying "The last time you inspired someone is when you died". Would that be said to a character who always wins, succeeds, and is never challenged? Ignore the fact that he DIED (actually, don't ignore that, he died, he lost a fight there Death Battle), he also got destroyed by Batman verbally. Anyone who thinks Superman never loses, doesn't have limits and is too op do not read comics, especially Superman comics or comics heavily featuring him. But this makes things worse because Death Battle had to look into Superman comics to research him so they must have ignored all his losses and struggles just to look at his power set, not caring about the character at all. That's really disrespectful, like all it did was piss off everyone. Superman is boring and too op, Goku gets stomped and admits he will never win...what do you expect to happen besides everyone hating you for this, Death Battle? Also like how you bring up Superman's speed feat being underwhelming by now in Death Battle, that really shows how stupid their arguments are. Superman is bullshit op and yet future Death Battles have characters with far larger feats than him...okay then. Almost as if you have a bias... As for Joker vs Sweet Tooth, I can accept the result, Joker would likely manipulate him to his death instead of just beat him to death but I really hate the 'Joker Mobile' because not only is that not canon...wasn't that whole segment just in Batman's head? I haven't watched a full playthrough of Arkham Knight but wasn't that whole thing with Joker having the Bat-Mobile in Batman's head as Joker started taking over...meaning that vehicle literally doesn't fucking exist yet they added it to his arsenal? Correct me if I am wrong, but if I am not then that has to be some of the POOREST research I have ever seen, giving Joker a figment of his imagination as a part of his arsenal. It makes me think of a video I watched going over every Thor vs Hulk fight to determine who won the most (Thor according to the video, by a big margin). In that video, there were moments where he'd talk about Hulk winning, only to mention that this was just a dream or an illusion, explaining that this fight didn't actually happen. If this was Death Battle however, they'd take those fights that were just illusions or dreams of the Hulk and treat it as canon...I am not even joking, I believe if they were doing a Thor vs Hulk for some reason, they'd mention these fights as if they actually exist. I would love to see the actual Joke Mobile, a comic/cartoon accurate version that has Joker gadgets, not just Batman's tech with a new paint job. Fight was alright but man does that first half annoy me, even more if I am correct that it doesn't even fucking exist. Finally for Twilight vs Raven, I liked it though I have seen videos that debunk the result though I could imagine Raven still has stuff that could win against Twilight. I recall most things being like, Raven only took those blasts because her Soul Self is a portal so she absorbed the blast, not tanked it and Twilight can still use magic even when drained of emotion so she could have killed plant Raven in that moment. Either way, its fine, I don't really mind it too much. I instead hate this weird hatred they have for My Little Pony. Out of all the kid friendly things they have used in Death Battle, this seems to get the most hate from them. A goofy plumber jumping on turtles and mushrooms, that's fine, a pink puffball who eats his enemies and his plots usually revolve around a villain stealing candy, that's fine, cute little creatures helping a 10 year old fight other 10 year olds, fine...but multi colored horses that are girls!? Eww...gross, cooties, why did we add this to the show!? Like...fuck off, its just a cartoon show like all the others you have shown. Maybe a bit more girly but it still has cool moments and cool action and powers, it really isn't any different from some of the other shit they've had. And if its the 'cringy' fan base of MLP...well that is even worse because every fandom has bad apples, they have used Sonic multiple times and that fandom is infamous for being weird as fuck. They used Steven Universe and that fandom tried to get someone to kill themselves. If its because its kid friendly and childish, that is hypocritical because all the cartoons and kid friendly video games are the exact same thing and if its because of the fandom then that is hypocritical considering all the shit other fandoms have done. I really don't get this hate for it, its a cartoon, calm the fuck down people, especially Death Battle. You still have some good matchups from the series, don't just not use it because for some reason this ONE kid friendly series is too much for you.

And regarding MLP, I think it's dumb how much people hate on it and Them's Fighting Herds, especially when the latter is just a cool Skullgirls-style fighting game that isn't actually an MLP product other then having a similar artstyle.

Death Battle tries to appease way too much. That's why we get spite death battles like Mario vs Sonic 2, Ryuko vs Shadow, Shadow vs Mewtwo....

Superman is one of the most human characters in fiction people get so caught up on his feats that they forget he’s just a farm boy who was raised by 2 wonderful parents.

Boomstick: *groans at MLP* Everyone else: *groans at Boomstick dad jokes*

A true hero understands the importance and values of life, while also fearing the potential of taking a life and succumbing to the temptation of evil. Superman embodies the symbol of hope because he values life and wants to protect everyone, as well as upholding a good moral compass by solving every problem without resorting to executing someone in cold blood. Goku's greatest challenge is fighting a stronger opponent and growing stronger to surpass them, which although it is inspiring to always better one's self through growth and hardship, that's basically it for Goku's character; hard work and determination, while always striving to be better than before and maintaining one's perseverance, integrity, honor, courage, and discipline. Superman's greatest challenge is doing what is morally the right thing to do and save as many lives as possible, while always fearing for the one day he may not be able to... when the unstoppable force finally meets the immovable object. Superman's character is a god living amongst men; who has incredible powers and gifts, but doesn't let those powers corrupt him and decides to use his powers to protect his loved ones, his friends, and the planet that he calls home. Goku is relatable for personal reasons because he embodies one's potential for growth, and how one should always strive to evolve and become better than before. While Superman is relatable for moral reasons because he embodies what is morally the right thing to do when faced with such life lessons and challenges.

Nemesis explained something far better than how DB would with any other character.

One thing that bothers me about Raven vs Twilight is that Twilight never lands a single damaging hit on Raven the entire fight. I understand that they can both one-shot each other, but I like to at least think that the matchup is close

Listening to you defend Superman was cathartic. The one good thing I can say about Superman’s portrayal in this episode is the moment where Superman carries Goku’s body down. That felt very accurate to his character.

that superman speech actually changed how I view superman as a character. I accepted DB's philosophy after this episode, in truth, because i thought that is what the character is... But.... After hearing and seeing the comics that supported more to him, it makes me worried about the Superman vs. Saitama death battle idea would be. If this were to happen, it has to be story driven in the fight itself, just to respect the characters in the right light. There really needs to be them talking off to each other before and during the fight. Otherwise, this could very likely be repeated like Goku vs. Superman 2. I think the important question to ask though is this: Have the creators opinion changed after this episode aired? This answered to this WILL affect what the idea is going to be.

The S on his chest and a worldwide symbol, Literally they took this symbol and threw it in the trash like it was nothing, like WHY?

I’m not a fan of Sups, but even I can say they always have some lousy cop out. They should understand that different writers of Sups have different limits or no limits at all, it depends on what the story needs him to do or overcome. I love Goku, but there are a lot of versions of Sups that would take a mean dukey on him, and some who would not be able to beat him. Sups is legit the symbol of “Hope” as in the embodiment of the concept of it. Sups was spawned from two men who had a noble vision of a man who overcame many struggles that he had no control over. Then had to deal with being feared just for his own abilities and never gives up. He is inspirational. Your content is always phenomenal.

Most versions of Supes actually lose at this point. There are still quite a few that batter Goku with varying degrees of ease, but there's not a lot of them.

Death Battle needs to hear that Superman speech. I personally love them both because of how they grow and who they are.

That was a wonderful discussion about Superman and I’m really glad you understand him as a character and that GvS2 really misunderstood and disrespected him so badly same with Goku as well to an extent. It was legitimately beautiful to watch and I’m really thankful for that for putting something that heartwarming together. And Joker vs Sweet Tooth was really great (Lucas Schuneman was phenomenal as Joker Mark Hamill would be proud) And Raven vs Twi is my least favorite episode but that’s largely for personal reasons you made a fair review of it.

Another big issue with Goku vs Superman 2 is the research. The 2 "Infinite Power" feats are complete bullshit and anyone would realize they're bullshit if you literally saw the next page for the book or literally the rest of the page for the lifting eternity thing. Not only did they insult Superman's character, they also insulted the intelligence of DC fans in Versus.

NGL, ignoring the outlier-y bits, the "Book of Infinite Pages" feat is actually pretty legit. Mandrakk says that it "contains all existence" in one of the Final Crisis comics, because the Book of Infinite Pages is meant to be the neverending story of DC Comics in a single form. Ultraman saying he read to the end (where Mandrakk wins) is immediately contradicted by Mandrakk not winning. The "lifting Spectre's eternity" thing is...weird, and I wouldn't know how to meaningfully describe it anyway.

Lit. 2 videos in 1 day. Edit: I second your thoughts on Goku vs Superman 2. Research aside, they don’t truly understand both of the characters and the script comes off as disrespecting one characters in order to uphold another. Rather, it should focus on remaining respectful to both parties whilst determining who comes out victorious which is something I could say about a lot of episodes (lovely speech btw).

I think they were biased against Superman because they felt bad about upsetting the Dragon Ball fanbase. Ben use to dislike Superman but he had a newfound appreciation for the character after doing the research for the first Goku VS Superman. A character who has been around for so many decades with so many different writers is bound to have different interpretations. Some people loved how Man of Steel (2013) portrayed Superman while others hate it. I heard Ben dislikes that movie. Ben thinks that Superman is meant to be different from us because because he is an alien and his main conflict is home vs heritage and accepting who he is. He is inspirational because he is an immigrant who has to learn to live in a new place while also honoring his roots. On the other hand you think that that Superman is human at heart which is what makes him relatable. You can hear Ben's opinion on Superman in the Crimson Chin vs The Tick Death Battle Cast at 28:51 - 30:34. Sadly I think both Goku VS Superman videos did the opposite of what Ben wanted. I think it made more people dislike Superman. A lot of people wanted a rematch but Death Battle didn’t know how much stronger Goku got from the God forms. I wish they could’ve praised Goku's character without putting down Superman.

Your mention of returning characters around 19:06 makes me wonder: I know you did a whole video on new matches for every combatant, but which characters would you actually want to see come back with a new and/or better matchup? Personally, I'm all for a Vader comeback, cause even ignoring the fight you whipped up for him (which is now in my top 5 wanted episodes), he had so many better options than Doom, even at the time.

As a non Superman fan, I honestly never understood the "he is too op" as an argument as to why people don't like him. Like, yeah, he is op, but it isn't mainstream knowledge that he has constantly pull out solar system and universe busting feats and can fly trillions and trillions of times the speed of light. Most people just think he is a guy that can fly who is stronger than Spiderman but not much else.

The Superman sound hearing meme thing is on the same level as the large radish thing.Maybe you could make a video on the silliest things they have done with those two as subjects. another would be Toph being able to see Garra or something else.

The part where they straight up rip off parts of Man of Steel for the Goku v Superman fight really says it all - they've reduced Superman to a baseline powerset and then made Goku functionally equivalent to Zod, when the whole point of these battles is that you get to pull from all the very weird and wonderful source materials these very different characters are from and combine them in ways you wouldn't get in a more serious story.

You’re completely right about goku vs superman 2 but one thing you I feel also hurts the episode is how they just have goku getting shit on just to make superman look not relatable. I cannot accept how they talk so how and mighty about goku when their big reason for making this fight is out of spite from all the dragon ball fans mad about the first fight. Having goku get curb stomped and only telling us the reason he lost was because superman has no limits and isn’t as inspiring as goku is not satisfying at all. By their own logic superman doesn’t even seem limitless otherwise he would have made it back to Jimmy faster than just a couple minutes. This fight is insulting to goku, insulting to superman and insulting to fans of both.

I admit that I was apart of the crowd that called Superman boring. Oh, how wrong that is. He has a character and what Nemesis showed...just proved how great of a character Superman is. He isn't a blank slate character whose overpowered. And even with his power, he still acts human and holds himself back. He may not be human by blood or born on Earth, but he is human in the sense that he was raised and nurtured by humans.

Kinda wondered why they even bothered with Twilight vs Raven. Like everyone, myself included, expected a major stomp. And that’s pretty much what it was. Not to discredit Twilight or anything (as someone who’s never watched FiM), but given that I have a general understanding of Raven’s character and what she’s been through, I felt terrible watching the episode. The song is cool though. Definitely better than “Unlocking Heaven.” Maybe it’s the melody that does it for me. But that’s about it.

Nemesis: Someone who has had their favorite character ruined on death battle, I hope can understand. Me: Yup...but here's the thing...I didn't just witness one of my favorite superheroes get ruined...I HAD TWO! BECAUSE THEY BUTCHERED BOTH SUPERMAN AND BATMAN.

I also think the 'walking through the kamehameha' scene isn't very technically impressive. Like, again, there's a similar scene in Man of Steel where Superman musters up the strength and force of will to push through an overwhelming force pressing down on him, and it looks, sounds and feels fantastic. This is just Superman...walking.

It's not uncommon for Deathbattle to reffrence or advertise other Roosterteeth shows, including some of the older ones with old Screwattack shows. I remember Metal Gear Ben being in the background of Snake vs Fisher in the scenes with Grim just to name an example.

Wow.... never thought I would find another reason to hate the Goku vs Superman sequel. I mostly rag on this episode for the more superficial stuff like how the analysis for both characters felt super rushed and how the research showed biased towards Superman from the start. But i never actually took the way they described the characters into account here. They've done so much damage to Superman by calling him a boring character. I mean moments like in the comic you're showing is proof he's not boring one bit and he's a good character. I can understand you being very neutral towards but for me I'm way more harsh on this one it's 2/10 for me. The only other non-DC fight i "hate" from this list is Raven vs Twilight Sparkle. While the voice-acting, animation, and fight itself are great, the research is once again what really kills it for me. They'll happily pull from multiple sources for Raven but yet they'll ignore the comics for Twilight Sparkle while pretending like they don't exists. I don't get why Death Battle puts an inconsistent amount of effort when it comes to research for one character but doesn't do the same for the other. I don't know if this would have changed the outcome or not for the actual battle but I would be accepting of Twilight losing if they fully did research on the character. This one is a 5/10 for me and that;s only because it was saved by the animation, fight, and voice-acting,

I dont like how you described Goku in this video either. Goku is not just about fighting either. He`s motives are very clear from the start of the series and he is pretty much mirror image of Superman the difference being how Goku achieved his insane power from a baby that landed in earth up to current day. Both characters have achieved same goal in different ways which the beauty of it.

I always wished they waited to do Twilight since now she can raise the sun with no issue and has way more feats. Also I hate that they mixed up Twilight shield with her levitating and then used that as her durability.

One thing not brought up for Joker/Sweet Tooth or Raven/Twilight was the vocal performances. Sweet Tooth sounded appropriate gruff, angry, & sadistic while Joker had a damn good impression of Mark Hamill's iconic Joker voice. Raven & Twilight both had solid VA performances but when it first released, I was genuinely hoping DB got Tara Strong to voice them both. They got Johnny Yong Bosch to voice Ichigo for his fight with Naruto so it wasn't outside the reason of possibility.

Wow, I didn't think there were only three DC vs Non-Marvel opponents that you haven't mentioned before. In any case, here my thoughts on them. Goku vs Superman 2: Animation's good, but nothing else is. Love your speech on Superman's character btw. Hopefully, Sonic doesn't get similar treatment when they inevitably pit him against Goku. Joker vs Sweet Tooth: Good. Raven vs Twilight: Booooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrring, though I do find it funny that this episode somehow has more magic usage than Strange vs Fate.

I think I finally understand what they were trying to say in Superman vs Goku 2, but they worded it so poorly that it just sounds like Death Battle made the "Saitama fan narrative" argument before OPM was even a thing. What they were saying was that Superman has a long history and will likely keep going long after all of us are gone, given that DC is passed along different writers all the time. Meanwhile Goku doesn't have that kind of privilege, Dragon Ball being written entirely by one guy who could, at any point, decide to stop the series or kick the bucket and the series just ends then and there. While other people can write Dragon Ball, it's all limited to what Akira Toriyama decides in the end, and he isn't gonna live forever so Goku will eventually plateau. But again, they worded it so poorly that it feels like they're just saying Superman fans don't matter or something.
