Episode 36 - The History and Watches of Audemars Piguet
In this episode, Cameron and Matt look at what makes Audemars Piguet one of the most important watch manufacturers in history. From their early complicated pocket watches to the iconic Royal Oak and the extraordinary Grand Complication, AP has always pushed the limits of watchmaking and provided a lasting iconic style. Cameron has a unique perspective on AP, as he was employed there for several years before starting Weiss Watch Company.

loved this one!! Thank you guys!
Great podcast really informative.
Great content. Great collection of watches
Great show!
You should do a history and watches of Gerald Genta. Designer and had a watch company.
another great show, Matt & Cameron! Royal Oak > Nautilus and you guys should do an entire show about Gerald Genta ✌️
By far, the best watch videos on KZread, period.
Audemars on the left. Piguet on the right on that picture. great show. thank you both.
Liked within the first minute 👍🏽
Btw, Cameron said that modern day movements have size limits that impact the power on the mainspring - not just thickness but also diameter of the movement. I'm thinking - in modern watches, (40+mm dials), in most scenarios the movements are still much smaller (hence you need to use plastic or metal spacer rings). Feels like that extra space could be expanded into & have a bigger barrel/mainspring.

And I would imagine a lot of your haute horology stuff does that but when you have to also account for mass production in a lot of these watches it becomes hard to tailor stuff like that to case size
much better production!
Shame this doesn't get more views
Wow Good
I'd love to see a history of Ball Watch Company
Good🌸
yeaaa
You have to try the Rolex rivet stretch bracelet if you want your arms hairs pulled out. And Seiko jubilee bracelets. So loose they can almost turn inside out.
Is valley de Joux the naming reason behind the "Valjoux" movements?

From wiki: "Valjoux (for Vallée de Joux, "Joux Valley") - yep!

At 1:03:00 how could you tell the difference of the module vs no module from just looking at the face of the watch?
My dream watch is a Royal Oak. Thanks for this episode!
It's said "sigh deer ear E al" time. It's used for focusing the direction & time of telescopes on the ground. In order for everyone to be able to look at the same portion of the sky it is divided up into degrees min's & sec's just as the earth is & the day. On a telescope it's in relation to north so you know how & where to point your telescope to see a comet or thee ISS ETC.
👏 super
Hell yeah! exactly what the doctor ordered

Thanks for the apology on the video errors, Matt. Keep up the great work!
Kept the rolex explorer I see
Mat, I think Everest band was there years before Rolex came up with the Oysterflex. I would even say that Rolex was probably inspired by them. You have to give them credit back and not calling them fakes 😉
single origin blend from all over south america?
0:15:56 that is some WILD hair, on the left.
Did I miss something or did you guys not skip fifty years of AP history? What happened from the early twentieth century to the Royal Oak?

One of those grand complications if you wanted to save some money on the service. You could just pop the back off and give it a squirt of wd40. Your good to go!

I started wearing it on my right hand when I was very young, and I used to write in spiral notebooks in school. The watch links would always get caught up in the spiral wire of the notebooks. So I started wearing it on my right hand, and never went back. My fiancee is also left handed and wears her watch on her right hand.

WatchAndListenPodcast Now that you mention it, the times I used a spiral style notebook I only had "rubber strap" based in my watches in my collection haha. I guess by the time I started using "bracelet style" watches, the spiral notebook and links never crossed paths. Who knows if my wearing style would be totally different now if they had haha. Keep up the great podcasts, Cheers from Puerto Rico!
Always interesting podcasts. Unfortunately there's always cursing and I can't share them with the younger people I know who also like watches.

Seth Jaeger Yeah, a bit more proffesionalism would be nice.
but is jomashop legit
Love the show but don’t get the love for those royal oaks. Just ugly!
"unless its a Rolex" This is total BS!! Only select Rolex models can make it past a 25% trade in loss. Most rolex takes 50% loss one year after purchase for a trade....just the way ANY OTHER WATCH does. BS alert
