Another good one! FYI to those searching; I was able to source the 4 disc FTD "Elvis is Back" and the FTD "Jailhouse Rock" Book at their OG prices, via Elvis Mansion shop and the Elvis Presley shop (fan club VIP. I have the FTD Vinyl of "Viva Las Vegas" and it's beautiful. Keep on rocking boys! Great videos! Everyone should pitch in at least $5 if possible so we can get this channel out there. I think Jamie and John do a pro job at showing us Elvis history.

Over here in the UK, the excellent music site Now Dig This, was selling this for just £75 upon release. I missed out on this, but have bought the Jailhouse Rock and Blue Hawaii sets. Still trying to get a copy 😢

Guys very nice and a marvellous box and presentation. Would have it too, no big deal. But not possible. I like the glossy, miss it in so much albums. Except of the FTD‘s another 2 came out. I’m looking forward.

Have you guys laid eyes on a book on his movies Elvis The Movies Erik Lorentzen I hear it is outstanding just missed out on a copy on eBay once cheers and thank you Carl Australia

Thanks, Stephen! I found that watch in Japan back in 2008 or so - it's not a Hamilton, but certainly looks like one! Hamilton thought so, too, because these were totally gone when I was back the following year! 🤣

I almost did ine time, Hamilton was going to use my voice for an ad, but it fell through (I was pretty sad about that, as I said I'd do it for two watches!) This one says "Good Rockin" as the company label, if that helps any. And these were dirt cheap, and honestly looks it when you get close to it. We actually had to paint silver back on to cover where it flaked off, lol - but it looks ok on camera! 😂

I always thought it was such a lost opportunity that there was never an official Viva Las Vegas LP at the time. There certainly was enough material recorded for it. Only a single and EP (with the rest of the tracks to be used as fillers on budget releases years later) were available. The duets were not released I believe due to the political reasons. The soundtrack contained some of Elvis’s strongest 60’s movie performances yet wasn’t recorded as well as some previous soundtracks. The way they were recorded seem to favour a movie mix over a future stereo record release. Perhaps this was another reason why RCA choose to release the best of the tracks in MONO on the single/EP releases. I presume the movie studios actually paid for soundtrack recordings so RCA (being the only company who could release the material on records) had to no control on how they were recorded.

I agree - and iirc, you're right about the studio paying for the recordings so RCA didn't have to, and that would explain how they were recorded, but I also think part of the problem may have been the number of musicians at that session; a lot more than usual. So what seemed fine for recording the Kid Galahad soundtrack showed it's limitations when it came to Viva.

Did you get elvis that the way it is FTD box set and what did you think of it I love it great set Elvis in 1970

That set is on eBay for crazy money £1,400?!! Elvis products are being marketed to wealthy collectors rather than real fans in recent years. How many collectors will keep everything sealed just to sell on for a profit at a later date ? A book and CD that is unread and unplayed has no human worth. Elvis kept his concert ticket prices affordable because he knew most of his fans were blue collar or working class. My days of collecting are almost over but I do buy the odd FTD and all DVD/Blu ray releases of the films the making of VIVA LAS VEGAS should be a DVD/4K Extra. I have other interests and the collectors prices makes me focus on other interests. They are pricing real fans out of the best releases including books. I refuse to pay any more than £30 for a book or cd set.

Yeah, it's very rare, and VERY expensive now. They can still be had for close to retail price once in a while, but that's still $500 USD or so. I will say, a set like this couldn't be made for $30 as it *is* higher quality grade materials, but I think even $500 is too much - $200 sounds expensive, but would be more in-line with the value, imo. But that's why, when we can get our hands on these things, we like to show what's inside, so fans can see them in at least some fashion, or decide if it's really something they want.

but this book is so expensive it doesn't have gold pages crazy stuff are we freaking out?

this is only one book with a very expensive and exaggerated price elvis on tour by erik lorentzen which are 3 books in all i had paid 295 euros the difference being 3 books each of these have 400 pages each book has 1,500 photos and elvis the making of las vegas has 300 or 400 pages only has 250 photos with a high price tag it's super expensive

It's definitely more expensive than it should have been. If it had been about the price that "The Making of Jailhouse Rock" was, that would be more reasonable (having the Viva sessions in order on the CDs would have upped my interest considerably, too). It's still a great book, and the CDs are nice to have, but it's definitely pricey. But that's one reason we show these things when we can, so other fans who couldn't get them get to see them in some form. 😁

I’m looking at a sealed set, but have yet to pull the trigger. Was your “reasonable” purchase price less than $1000?

@sturmgewehr70 They tend to be rare at that price anymore, but we'll keep an eye out! Best places to check would be a standing saved ebay search (because you never know) and sometimes the Elvis trading forums have reasonable prices, too.

but please this book costs between 800 and 1000 euros crazy absurd this is a scam this book is worth nothing I have that of joseph tunzi that in only 120 pages there are 250 photos and that i had paid 40 euros the price of this book is just right a fraud

You're talking about the secondary market, though (like eBay) - the book originally cost $500 (USD), which I also think is too expensive (I could see $200); in fact I said so in the video, but FTD never charged 800-1000 for it. The price of the book *now* is certainly nuts, but it's still a beautiful book.
