Totally agreed on the book, and the EP is great! The CDs not so much, especially since we have the sessions more complete (plus time-corrected) elsewhere from FTD - but I will say, it's certainly nice to finally hear the takes of Elvis playing bass on "Baby I Don't Care!" It's a nice package set, all in all, and I'm glad to have it, too. 😁

Great video. Wanted to let everyone know, you can still buy this brand new, retail. I just received mine yesterday. Came packaged perfectly, sealed and perfect! One of the internet's best "easter eggs". I spoke to a nice lady on the phone, she took my CC info and shipped it right out, priority mail. Unlike our host, I bought this for the book. It is incredible. Cannot compliment the book enough. For me, the 45 and the CDs are bonus. The main book is 365 pages and the second book is 85 pages. The quality of this set cannot be overstated. However, even at retail, it is pricey. If this is something you've been thinking about, get one before they are gone and then all that is left are on third parties sites for much more!

@@EAPSociety Yes, Graceland still has some. They also have the making of Blue Hawaii. The FAQs on the website indicate you can purchase things that are not showing available on the website. We were at Graceland in the beginning of March and I saw the making of Jailhouse Rock in the Entertainer gift shop. Figured I would look into buying it when I got home, to find it's sold out. But I found that FAQ, called and sure enough, 5 days later it was in my hand. What an awesome package!

It really is - I think ShopElvis still has copies, but $250 is a lot, even though it's worth it (imo).

As a completionist, I have to agree - there's a difference between "technically complete" (as in having all of the takes) and *actually* complete (as in having every bit of the session).

Overall, it's honestly an amazing set (still available, too) - and if I didn't care about the edits made, I'd basically call it perfect.

@@EAPSociety I get why you're annoyed at the edits and agree they are quite pointless. The type of fan that would buy this set wants the unedited sessions! That being said, it doesn't sound like the edits aren't too tragic towards the overall presentation.

@@marcoesquandolez4737 Well, having the complete sessions was my original major buying point, so for me it's about truth in advertising as much as anything (they shouldn't say complete if it isn't, that kinda thing). Even if the edits aren't tragic at first glance, needing several releases to get an actual complete session in 2022 is not something fans should accept anymore, and there are times where context is lost by the edits (even it that context is small). That having been said, the book is absolutely essential and worth the purchase all by itself, and I'm so happy I have it. The wardrobe pictures alone are simply incredible!

A superb Box-Set i have this beauty in my Collection. Thanx for the nice Infos and thoughts. The old Problem...you must buy the same old stuff over and over again to get something a little bit complete. What's your opinion on the 2019 FTD Release "The Making Of Viva Las Vegas"?! It was the first"Making Of..." Book/CD in this style

The tapes running over 2% faster than they should be is the biggest flaw of this set. Just unforgivable, and sadly not an isolated incident when it comes to Elvis releases.

Not sure your opinion of the overseas MRS (Memphis Recording Service) label. Some Elvis forums will all but ban you if you even mention their existence. If you’re in that camp, I apologize, but I just wanted you to know that a few years ago MRS released a boxed set with the soundtracks to all the 50s movies and most of what’s in this FTD set is included. The sound is pretty decent and is a cheaper alternative for someone who would like the material but who cannot afford this set.

No apology necessary! We like MRS - and have a number of their releases. We do tend to prefer Sebastian's work from an audiophile perspective, but we'll be looking at some of those releases as well in the future. :)

This is a great set but I’m afraid you’ll have another stronger disappointment when you get to the second disk. There is a loud audible humming noise that can be heard on the disks. They must have used an inferior source for the takes. The sound is still great, just have to overlook the hum. I agree, giving the high price of this set, it could have been much better.

Yep! And funny enough, it's actually the same source as the binaural takes (folded into mono for this set) - they just didn't apply the same level of noise reduction that's found on the two Jailhouse "Classic Album" FTDs. I don't mind that *as* much personally as I have a music studio and can redo that if I need/want to, but the edits made are just maddening when it's listed as "complete". As it is, it takes 4 CD sets to properly complete the session (this, the two FTD set, and "Elvis By The Presleys") - that should not be the case for one of Elvis's most important 1950's sessions.

It’s absolutely lovely looking sad but with the information we were just given about the songs being 2% faster is such a travesty. How can you pay so much money for a product that has inferior quality control?

Hi, Francesco! I will say. The book is absolutely phenomenal - there's no quality control problem there, thankfully. But the cds... yeah, it's not great. Now, if this is the speed the reel plays at (ehich seems to be the case), that's an interesting bit of knowledge - and having a "raw reel transfer" is something I could see as a benefit. But then it's edited. So it's kinda baffling.

I did like this book!📔 FTD does an good job!
