Why do people complain about this? If you’re not caught up with a franchise that’s YOUR problem. Just watch the content you want to watch and accept you won’t understand everything if you don’t see everything.

When the whole premise of your movies is a shared cinematic universe (e.g. the MCU) it will inevitably reach a point where not every movie will be a ‘valid entry point’. That may have been possible after 5, 10 or even 15 movies but there are now over 30 movies in the MCU. That’s not to say that there will still be some movies that can be enjoyed without prior knowledge of previous movies or characters but that is likely to be rare now. And if you think watching movies or entertainment is ‘homework’ then maybe, just maybe a cinematic universe is just not for you.

I feel like the only thing newcomers might be a little lost with is the TVA, because with all the stuff we know is popping up in this movie I think that’s gonna be the only one where it is reliant on prior knowledge of other movies, but other appearances like Elektra or even Kassandra Nova I think people will understand them, because those 2 are essentially like brand new characters, yeah Jennifer Garner is back but that movie was a long long time ago and wasn’t part of a shared universe, and so her being in the role again is essentially just gonna be like a fun little Easter egg for people who have prior knowledge of her, same with how they’ll be making fun of the ending of Logan, and then Kassandra Nova will definitely mention that she’s Xavier’s sister and I think that’ll be all people will need to hear to understand, and so like I said I think the only one people might have a little trouble with is the TVA but other than that I think they’ll be perfectly fine

I disagree that needing to know things before you watch a movie is a "problem." The only reason you might see it as a problem is if you are primarily concerned with how much money you can make (which, of course, studios are). I am not. Why should movies be any different from other media? You don't start with the 5th book in a series. You don't start with the 7th season of a tv show. If you tried to do that and then complained, most people would look at you like you are stupid. Movies shouldn't be treated any differently. There are many, many stand-alone movies. But if they aren't made to be stand-alone, why is that a bad thing? Again, apart from the fact that some people might feel overwhelmed by "homework" and not want to get into it, which affects the bottom line. But that's okay! One Piece has over 1,000 episodes, so I might never watch it. But plenty of people still do! And they enjoy it! If I wanted to badly enough, I could - just like I read every X-Men comic from 1963 until today (well, almost, I'm a few months behind right now). That's an even bigger project than watching all of One Piece, but it's one I chose to take on. If i didn't want to do it, nobody would have made me. And that would have been okay. It's okay for a movie to just be part of a larger story. There's no need to criticize that unless you are profiting from the movie. If you don't want to do the homework, there are plenty of other movies to watch, shows to watch, books to read, etc.

Being apart of a bigger story is fine, but with the MCU, it’s not clear what you have watch to keep up to current. If Deadpool 3 doesn’t makes sense because you didn’t watch Hawkeye episode 4 then that’s bad storytelling.

  • @DanielChannel89

    @DanielChannel89

    16 күн бұрын

@Mrjonnyjonjon123 The only reason it's not clear is because the messaging has always been that you don't have to. And often, that is true, but not always. For example, claiming that you could go into Infinity War blind, or even without having watched several different franchises, and still feel like you got an adequate amount of the experience was ridiculous. To me, that's not indicative of bad movie-making though; it's more indicative of unclear and perhaps somewhat dishonest messaging about the movies being made.

You need to make these movies to appeal to everyone, not just fans. If you do that, you will continue to dwindle down the number of fans until these movies aren't profitable. The number of people that pass on it because they haven't seen the others will become too great. The movie needs to be great for everyone, not just the people that have seen the others. You get the benefit of fully enjoying the smaller parts of these movies, but to make it a crucial part is a mistake. The movie is less enjoyable for the average fan when they don't know what's going on because they didn't watch the Disney+ shows. The average fan is critical for the studios, not the hard-core fan. They're important, but most everyday fans need to enjoy the movie.

I've never understood the 'homework' problem. Like this isn't new, sequels have been a thing for a long time. Granted there's never been something as big as the MCU but still, tv has been doing this sort of long form story telling for decades. Books have been doing it even longer. If you're somebody who needs to know every character and backstory to enjoy something, either simply don't watch something that has previous entries or put the fucking work in. You wouldn't start a tv show on season 6 and moan that you don't know anyone so don't do it with movies. Plus, even without the MCU and X-Men tie ins, Deadpool & Wolverine is the 3rd in a trilogy, there would be work for you to do anyway. Also also, we say homework as if we're being made to write an essay or do calculus. Watching movies and TV is fun

  • @factoryofdivisiveopinions

I think the difference between Marvel and other series, other than the scale, is that other series are more clearly labeled. Every show has season 1,2,3 etc. Every book, episode, and even movie is properly and chronologically labeled. No one thought watching Harry Potter 1 before watching the 2nd was homework, but if they told you that you also needed to watch Fantastic beasts to understand it, it would feel like homework. Add to that the mediocre at best tv shows marvel has made all these years didnt help matters either. It can become too overwhelming at times, even as a fan. Deadpool x wolverine is the most exciting movie from them since no way home and maybe guardians.

Lots of people DIDN'T see Incredible Hulk as evidenced by the box office numbers BUT when we see Ruffalo as Banner those of us who saw Norton's movie knew the connections but Joss Whedon did an excellent job of making the threat of the Hulk, the angst of Banner with this "curse" and how he fit into the fabric of Iron Man, Nick Fury, Natasha etc etc evident in a way newcomers totally bought into his character.

That’s like watching Scream 6 and blaming the film for the fact that you don’t know who the main characters are because you didn’t bother to watch the first 6. Also, there’s no fucking way on this planet or any other that you know someone who didn’t watch any movie other than Infinity War and understood it. That would mean they understood how Thanos caught up with Thor, why Cap and Tony weren’t speaking, why Wanda and Vision were on the run, what Wakanda is, and how Tony prophecized Thanos coming. This is a BOLD face lie. Would the movie be entertaining without watching the other films, maybe, but to say you followed it without watching the other movies, IS A LIE!

Every episodic film franchise has always been about doing homework. I don't know if it's just me, but I felt like I always had to do homework when I saw the infinity saga alone. I didn't get any sense of Iron man when I saw a captain America stand alone movie or vise-versa. The same thing with guardian if the galaxy. Otherwise, every movie should just be an Avengers team up or Civil War like movie where we always are seeing different superheroes do their everyday things. And actually I think this goes for any film franchise. I always feel the need to watch everything chronologically to get the whole thing because if I just watch one random movie I'm just totally lost

I completely disagree with John about people being lost in the films when they have characters that were introduced in the Disney+ shows. If anything, it's on you to watch them first before you see the films. Let's face it, every MCU fan would have already watched the shows before the films anyway and also, shows like WandaVision and Ms. Marvel were available to watch AT HOME for 1-2 years before The Marvels released in theaters. If you couldn't find the time in 1-2 years to watch them in the comfort of your own home in your own time without even having to make time to go to a movie theater, then I am sorry, but that is on you at that point. I have never had an issue with them mixing in the films and Disney+ series. If you can't make time to watch them in the years before they appear in the films, then honestly, too fucking bad. It is not Feige's job to make sure that you watch everything, it's your job. He's just making the content. If you don't make the effort to watch it so you don;t feel lost, how is that his fucking fault?

Accessibility and mass appeal and been one of the biggest cornerstones of Marvel's success. Without it, the MCU as we know it would never have existed. Those qualities remain essential in rebuilding and retaining an audience. There is nothing wrong with the idea of the MCU being a smaller scale, smaller budget, more niche franchise. An arguement could even be made this has the potential for better quality. But you simply cannot disregard the "homework" issue AND want the MCU to continue to be of the same size and scale.

The more details I learn about Deadpool 3, the more it seems the movie will be a mishmash of what came before, both the good and the bad. Making Wolverine the central character, I think was a mistake the original X-Men films plunged into, the other characters like Cyclops and Jean were rendered secondary in their own team. We won't be seeing a new take on the X-Men until way after Secret Wars! Man, that's a long, long wait. Elektra, from Daredevil (a movie that didn't do well) is going to make an appearance? Really? A dead Ant Man's body as a version of Cerebro for Cassandra Nova's Xavier like character? Haven't we seen this before in Knowhere, Guardian of the Galaxy: a skull floating in space. It's becoming a tried and worn trope. Azazel is back, huh? Why wasn't he used in the follow-up to First Class? Seems exciting at first on paper, but it is lazy story telling. No real stakes when you can just resurrect a fan favorite just in time for the Rapture lol

First off this film isn’t going to do well because the overall story is not really connected to anything and I think they think that because of this film being filled with variants of mutants and x men and villians we’ve never seen before that it gives them leeway to just make shit up but there forgetting that this film at the end is supposed to connect to the main 616 and bring in mutants to the mcu as a whole so there should be some homework that consumers need to do before watching this film But I don’t think Deadpool is as good as they think and that’s why I feel like this film won’t make money also I just feel like the writing and the script won’t be good enough And it’ll be all over the play and i think they think it’s ok because that’s what Deadpool represents but it’s not because them dropping F bombs every 3 seconds and the fervent mentioning of drugs and drug use in the recent trailer already has me thinking that This film will be horrible because it’s focusing more on bad language and drug use than an actual full fledged written story that should be about mutants and x men and them entering the mcu but I don’t think that’s what fans will get an there gonna be so disappointed

Deadpool 3 ain't gonna live up to the hype. The story isn't gonna be great. Why? Because the movie's gonna be nothing but cheesy jokes cranked up to 11 (relying on sexual references, drugs, etc for shock value). It's desperately leaning into the multiverse gimmick, which means a cameo-fest and cheap fan service. It's gonna be a shallow flick. The whole movie is just designed for 'OMG Deadpool and Wolverine are together for some ish or another.' Yay. Lulz. And, c'mon, nobody is excited to hear more TVA jargon and sacred timeline nonsense. If Deadpool 3 was homework, then I would drop the class. Deadpool's worst weakness? Ryan Reynolds and company went maximum Robot Chicken. Never go Maximum Chicken. 😆
